I loved it! 8/17/2010

This place is great! I spent two nights there, but i wish i could have stayed more. This hotel has been in Long Beach since 1967 and it actually use to have a steady flow of about 2,000 people. It slowly drifted off as she aged, but i think it's time she be appreciated again. There is no reason for such a beautiful, historical landmark to go to waste. Can you believe they were going to sink her at one point? Everyone who works there is so friendly, the food is great, the beds are amazing, there's lots to do, it's beautiful in the morning out on the deck, and the price we got for the room was outstanding. We got to take multiple tours including a ghost encounters tour (The Queen Mary is known for being haunted), a russian submarine tour, and a tour about world war II. You really feel like your in a 1930's film when you walk in there. Out room was very roomy, it was very clean, and we met some interesting people! She is run down in a few parts of the ship, but they really do try to maintain her. She just needs some more visitors. Ships are expensive to maintain! I highly recommend you stay at the queen mary, or even just go take some day tours they offer, the next time you are in Long Beach, California. more

Disappointing Attraction 6/16/2009

It all started at the ticket counter with a grumpy and less than helpfull sells person, the tour guides are knowledgeable but strange carnival folk, and the ship condition is dusty. Typical city owned attraction - over priced and under served. There are wonderfull views of the harbor from the ship deck, and ther eis a lot of history to be enjoyed but dont depend on a employee to provide you a satisfying visit. Pros: Wonderfull history Cons: Expensive and they need better workers more

Stunning view from the top deck 6/30/2008

It feels like entering the Titanic. The overwhelming boat is equipped with almost every service one desires while the stylish bar and top deck offer a stunning view of the ocean and Long Beach. My friend and me almost got lost at this huge boat, with all its hallways it feels like being in a maze. It is definitely a sight to see. more

Time to abdicate! 3/24/2008

The Queen Mary is in desperate need of an overhaul. The "self guided" tour begins with dusty museum-like displays in an ambiguous space in the rear of the ship and meanders with little in the way of clear signage from deck to deck. You get to see a mock-up of typical guest rooms, but you don't actually get to see any real guest rooms. The Ghosts and Legends tour provides access to some interesting spaces -- the swimming pool, boiler room and engine room. But dim lighting, recorded screams and voices, and a mist of water hardly deliver on the frightening experience touted on the signage. Bring comfortable walking shoes; not a single one of the many escalators was working, so touring the QM can be like an hour on the stairmaster. The Queen Mary could be great -- it's an awesome and historic ship. But as it gathers dust today, it's definitely not worth the price of admission. more

Great Wedding Day On the Queen! 9/16/2007

It was a wonderful experianece ! I was worried at first we had gone threw serveral wedding planners since last year , But the manager of the wedding chapel did an fantasic job in making sure all of our needs where completed. She had serveral weddings on that day , But she made me feel like I was the only one .She was always professional ,caring and fun to work with. She cared about my family she made sure that we had inculded all of our grandparents and parents. I would highly recommend her to any of my friends and family. Big Thanks to her and her staff for a memorable day! Lizzard Pros: service more

Romantic, But Reed-Thin Walls Distract and Awaken 9/14/2007

I planned a romantic trip here with my boyfriend on our 5th Anniversary, and we had a wonderful time except the stupid people next door would NOT shut up despite our knocking on the walls, and calling security to complain. The walls are very thin, and you can hear EVERYTHING. So don't plan on moaning during s3x or telling secrets you want to keep. This is a great location for a romantic getaway but you wont be able to sleep much if you have bad luck and get stuck with crappy noisy neighbors. Pros: Romantic settingq Cons: Annoying Neighbors more

Wedding and Reception was the best and most Beautiful 7/4/2007

I have heard of the changes at the Queen Mary recently and was worried considering what I heard. I must say they were all unfounded, we had the best and most rememberable ccermony and recception. The staff from the Chapel to the waiters were just perfect. We would like to say thank you for making our special day! We would recommend the Queen Mary to any and everyone!! Keep up the great work!! Pros: Great staff, great food, and beautiful setting Cons: The City should support the Queen Mary, it represents the City and Southern Cal! more

Great setting -INCOMPETENT coordinators! 6/10/2007

We were recently married on the Queen Mary, May 12, 2007. I have to start with saying the ship does provide a BEAUTIFUL and UNIQUE setting for a ceremony and reception. We had tons and tons of compliments on it. But if our guests knew what we had to endure over the course of a year to make that ceremony happen..... I don't even know where to begin. Let's start with a direct quote from the Manager of Catering and Weddings "The ship has had such a high turn over of coordinators due to incompetence, your wedding file has been mismanaged and is upside down." In their defense, they did give us a 5% discount after I went completely berzerk and demanded a discount due to the fact we were trapped since we couldn't make changes 2 months before the wedding and felt their incompetence wasn't worth their full fee. An example: Literally 2 minutes before the ceremony I found out this so called Manager of Catering and Weddings didn't even know I had a cd with instructions on what the wedding party and I (the bride) were walking down the aisle too. I had to send my Matron-of-Honor frantically to find the cd and give it to the sound technician. seconds before we were to walk down the aisle. She was at our rehearsal. There was no excuse for her to not know that or had that taken care of. I still can't believe I, the bride, was frantically wedding planning before I walked down the aisle. My groom even had to give her directions shortly before the ceremony on how to get the groomsmen and ring bearers down the aisle when we had just rehearsed it 2 days prior. She didn't write down a thing. And to top things all off, she called my minister (who was a friend with dread-locks and a ceremony I wrote who only became ordained to marry us) the following Saturday at 4:00 begging him to come do a ceremony at 5:00 because she "forgot to tell the Captain of the ship he had a ceremony that day, the captain wasn't there & she had no one to marry the couple). Something to consider. Pros: Gorgeous, unique setting, good food Cons: incompetent wedding planners & expensive parking more

Never will have any events at the Queen Mary again. 2/7/2007

In 2004 I had a graduation party on the Queen Mary for my daughter. The people were wonderful and their services were attentive and outstanding. Based on this previous experience, my daughter had her wedding also on the Queen Mary in 2005. It started well, however, one month prior to the wedding, the original wedding planner quit without telling us and the new wedding planner made changes to the menu without consulting us, never answered any phones calls or responded to e-mails. Three days before the wedding, I had to talk to the general manager before the new wedding planner would respond (she quit the day after my daughter's wedding). On the day of the wedding, we were rushed out of the chapel before we can take any wedding photos even though we were promised that date one year in advance and was also promised there was no other wedding after my daughter's. The worse, however, was the fact they lost all my the daughters items on their wedding table, i.e., vintage champagne glasses, flowers, etc. I went back to the ship several times and spoke with the wedding coordinator to find these items. They were never found and she never called back. To this day, I'm still mad about the whole affair and I have discourage many folks not have their events there. I'm happy to say I was successful in turning a few people away. Now my other daughter is graduating soon and in planning her graduation party, it brought back some bad memories of the Queen Mary, so I thought take the opportunity to get this off my mind. Pros: Historic value Cons: Inattentive service. more

DO NOT HONOR RESERVATIONS - rude mgmt. 11/1/2005

My sister & I made reservations for Sunday brunch, as a birthday gift to our father. After arriving on time & waiting in line (with people who did NOT have reservations) for 45 min., I spoke to the host about the delay. There were people at the front of the line who had been waiting for 1.5 hours! Several other disgruntled patrons suggested a separate line for those with reservations - the rude manager said he would "be concerned if there was not a line". They DO NOT honor reservations! Pros: nice scenery Cons: rude management, disorganized, poor customer service more

Romantic and Spooky! 10/1/2003

I stayed at the Queen Mary on my honeymoon night and we had a fabulous time! We arrived there in a 1940's white Rolls Royce right after our wedding reception. I felt as though I were a bride in another time! As we walked up the hall to our room I clearly felt a hand on my shoulder and a whisper in my ear. I turned around quickly to find no one there. Although I believe there are ghosts there I never ever feel uncomfortable! more

My room~ 10/1/2003

My sister and I had a weird experiance. In our Room it was a 2 twin bed room and we were the only two people inthe room and at 1:34a.m. I work up and someone was taking a shower in the room! Yet my sister was still asleep. I at the time thought it must have been her pillow but when I woke up later she was asleep and the bathroom door was open and the light was off! I asked my sister about it later and she said she was asleep all night and that she hadn't used the bathroom except the day before! I can't explain it! Pros: Unique, lots to do, Ghosts Cons: crowded, ship mostly closed, Staff denies ghosts more

Romantic Nostagia 8/26/2003

The history of this ship is amazing. Famous people have walked her decks. She served our country transporting troops and now, she'll be my fondest memory of my wedding day. The staff responsible for the booking the receptions are amazing. They're very attentive. The attraction it's self is definately worth traveling for. Great for kids and Romantic dates. more

Ghostly Hype 1/20/2003

The entire Queen Mary staff does an incredible job of promoting the Ghost Tour - both directly and indirectly. I must admit, even I was a little nervous about taking the tour after 'overhearing' how scary it was. Very well done. All the tour guides were very well informed of the Queen Mary history - even beyond their scripts! I was impressed with the staff as well as the facilities. Pros: guides well versed Cons: tour entry points, ticket sales office more

high seas romance 10/15/2002

The Queen Mary is dripping with romance and history... you can almost see the regal affairs of yesteryear just by stepping into the ballroom. With wonderful views from the bar and fantastic food in the restaurants, your body gets as much satisfaction as your soul. Pros: beautiful, romantic Cons: lousy parking more

Elegant, unique, unforgetable, romantic 7/25/2002

The Queen Mary Hotel is GREAT. At night you can take a VERY romantic walk through almost endless passages and rooms. Or, you and your special person can spend time talking on the deck with the wind blowing through your hair as your nestle close together to share an special moment. The Hotel is not for the person looking for total luxury. The Queen Mary is all about old fasion and elegance. You are not sleeping in a brand new, state of the art hotel, rather one of the last true great ocean liners. With so much history and elegance, the Queen Mary is a must stay hotel for the truly unique and romantic couple and we in southern California are very lucky to have it with us. Pros: romantic, unforgetable, endless scenery Cons: small room, tours can be pricey more

A Historical Stay 7/24/2002

An excellent opportunity to live a bit of history for a night or two. Rooms have olden charm and realism. Plenty to do and see. Come aboard...."Casper" may be waiting for you. Pros: Historical Realism, Unique Hotel Stay, Elegant Charm Cons: small rooms, limited facilities more

Very Nice! 7/8/2002

This is a great place for couples to get out and have a romantic night on the town. Or better yet why not stay for the night? Their prices are worth the experience and ambience of this most beautiful ocean liner. Try their Sunday brunch - A little pricy but well worth the experience. Try it!!! more

Cool place for youngsters 6/26/2002

Although I really enjoyed the tour, the boat would make a great place to take teens. more

  • The Scene
Before the luxurious Queen Elizabeth 2 took to the oceans as the world's most famous ocean liner, the Queen Mary rounded the horn in style. Now moored and anchored to a dock at Long Beach Harbor since its last voyage in 1967, the ship is one of L.A.'s biggest tourist attractions and its most unique hotel. Guests stay in the ship's original 365 staterooms, which run from intimate to lavish suites.

    The Details
The ship features shopping, and many restaurants and bars line the decks. Enjoy formal California cuisine at Sir Winston's, fresh seafood at Chelsea and ocean view cocktails at the Observation Bar. A full-service spa helps you savor shipboard life in the same glamorous Hollywood way that Greta Garbo and Clark Gable did. Lovebirds should know about the onboard wedding chapel, while large groups should check out one of the ship's art deco salons.
