I would like to thank this lady. She had a really artistic Feather and Fan blanket in the window, I went in and asked about it, she could tell I was a tourist and assured me it was not hard. Here she said, and Sold me a Pattern! I took it home, went on a Knitting retreat for prayer shawls ( A Hug from God) and launched out on my own work of art. I got the holes wrong the first attempt, but I completed a 7 foot long feather and fan sea- scape. One proud and thankful customer signing off! more

Right for Serious Sweater People and Yarnaholics 12/12/2007

This is absolutely my favorite area yarn shop for choice, quality and expertise. At first stock looks small, but then you realize there's a lot tucked in here and there, and every single yarn variety has been tested and knit up by owners, so they know exactly how it makes up and what projects or patterns would be a good match. When you are spending $50 and up for a sweater, that matters in time and money. They will also order colors not in stock for you if you have a special shade in mind. Most of the stock is high-end yarn, but there's also very good quality less expensive yarn, like Plymouth Galway. Other plusses, they have years of expertise and can help with even extremely complex patterns if you get stuck. On the other hand, I have seen them coach beginners and rejoice with them on their first sweater. Some people have felt they had bad experiences here. I've never seen it, but the owners are very opinionated. A little Yankee crotchetiness I can deal with, and if I say something when they get a little exuberant in their opinions, they'll laugh at themselves, too. I would say if you are a serious sweater (jacket, sock, coat, dress...) knitter or would like to be one, you will probably love this store. If you are more of a crafter and intend to knit up a couple of simple scarves or some cute novelties like an iPod cover or stuffed animal, you won't get much help or encouragement and would do better in other stores that have the right stock. more

Intense and not comfortable 2/21/2007

I visited the store as an excited new knitter. I found the owner to be intense, condescending and at times rude. He knew it all. I bought materials, he gave me a lesson to begin a project and off I went. As a new learner I made many mistakes and returned to the store for help, correction and additional lessons. Again, the owner was abrasive, impatient and intimidating. At one point when I did not understand something he exclaimed, "Don't give me that helpless act!" I have not gone back and have since found wonderful knitting the staff is helpful, kind and willing to give you the time you need as a new learner. more

Knit on! 7/15/2005

i don't really come about many stores that specialize in only knitting so i gave this a shot. They had many colors of wool so i was at awe. I heard that they give lessons so i decided to buy something just for it. They already taught me the things i learned already hoping they would teach me something new but i guess next time would be different. more

Expensive, but worth it if you need lessons. 7/8/2005

I didn't find my experience at this store to be very comfortable. I'm a twenty-something knitter, and was a little surprised at how scornful the owners were when I asked if they sold cotton yarn. It seemed that I had broken some huge, important rule by not knitting with wool – oops, I’m just a college student that knits for fun! Their yarn is pretty expensive, although they do have some really nice yarns. Plus, they are a small store, and have big chains to compete against. They give lessons for free if you buy your yarn and supplies there, which is definitely a good deal. So, if you want someone to teach you to knit a sweater, it seems like a good place to do that, because you only need to pay for the yarn, not the lessons. I wasn’t totally comfortable with the people who ran the store, they were pretty intense, but hopefully you’ll have a better experience! more
