Literally, RUN, dont walk! Punjab Sweets is absolute heaven! Fresh and delicious real authentic punjabi/south indian food. Just like home cooked. I visit Punjab sweets at least 2-...

It ruined our Friday night. We ordered carry out and the food tasted like it was cooked in overused burnt oil. Never again Pros: Variety is good, some items are hard to find...

Avoid on any cost... 3/31/2007

It ruined our Friday night. We ordered carry out and the food tasted like it was cooked in overused burnt oil. Never again Pros: Variety is good, some items are hard to find elsewhere. Cons: Food may be day or two old, burnt oil cooked, pricy more

Excellent food, Sparse seating 3/8/2007

I found this restaurant here when I was looking for a new spot for lunch. I was very pleased with the results. I am not very familiar with Indian food, so unfortunately I don't have anything to compare it to. The first thing I noticed was the display cases full of desserts (which I hate to admit I did not try). It took me a moment to see the regular menu on the wall above the counter. When I said I didn't know what to order she recommended the first item on their menu, which was a bowl of chickpeas (garbanzo beans) in a spicy broth served with two flat fry-breads (the breads were similar to what you can find at roadside stands in the American Southwest). The dish was so wonderful and flavorful I couldn't believe it was vegetarian! Before I left I ordered two of the appetizer samplers to take home and try with my fiance. All were deep fried, but they were all very good: potato and peas wrapped in a "tortilla", spicy potato pancake, cheese and chutney, and potato and veggie dumplings. You can order singles of these for a quick, reasonably priced snack. Everything was fantastic! To drink I ordered something like a mango "smoothie", which was thick and tasty. They did not appear to have soda or other more familiar drinks. Seating was set up almost entirely as two-person tables, but they did have a couple of tables pushed together for a slightly larger group. This is not a place to expect easy seating for more than four people together. I grabbed a menu on my way out so I can order lunch for takeout, which I guarantee I will be doing often. If you are a meat-eater (as I am), don't let the vegetarian label fool you into thinking it will be tasteless. Give it a try! Pros: The food and the service! Cons: Not much seating. more

Savory Indian Cuisine with fantastic service! 11/3/2006

This place is hidden on 104th Ave in Kent, and had I not read the reviews on here before venturing out, I probably would never had gone there. The other reviews on here discuss "cheesy decor" but apparently I either have very different taste in decor, or the owners have since redone it because I did not find it cheesy at all. Sparse perhaps, but not cheesy or over done. The restaurant was clean, and my family and I were greeted by a lovely young lady who was quick to recommend these forgein foods to me, my husband and 3 year old daughter. We ended up ordering way too much food, but we were able to try a bit of everything on the menu, and we liked everything. I have little experience with the Indian fare, and to have someone who was able to provide such great advice on what to order was wonderful. The food is made fresh daily, and is fairly reasonable. We took plently of left overs home. I highly recommend this establishment; journey out to Kent to eat here. It will be well worth your time. We will be going back sooner than later. Pros: Great Service. Kid Friendly. Cons: Hours- they close early. more

Incredible food! 7/16/2006

Ok, so I finally made my trip here and the food was just incredible! I have some neighbors that are Indian and I have tried their food, and this stuff tasted just like my neighbor cooks it. Amazing!!! The portions were just right, the plates were really interesting (the food was served in authentic steel dishes), the taste was fantastic and bursting with flavor, and the people were friendly. I do have to admit the decor was a bit cheesy, and the look is not the normal place I look to dine out. However, not to take away from the food, the huge selection of sweets and food was really worth the trip. I would suggest that people come with an open mind and look past the decor. The prices and flavor definitely make up for it. My wife and I had appetizers, entrees, drinks, and dessert for under $30. You can't beat an authentic Indian meal for that price. The best part is that this place DOESN'T have a lunch buffet, which is a huge plus with me. I hate going to 90% of the Indian restaurants and eating stale food in the buffets. I prefer fresh food made to order, so this was the right pick. All in all it was a great experience and I will be back. Pros: taste, quality, family place Cons: decor, hours of operation more

Sweets are the draw here! 7/11/2006

I recently had a party at my office, and one of my coworkers had brought in some dessert from this place. It was a huge success at the party and everyone was raving about the colorful desserts! I decided to try this place out and see what else they had. I was so impressed the minute I walked in the door by the two display cases full of various desserts and another one full of salted items. I talked to the girl in the front and she was telling me how everything was made from scratch. In addition to the desserts, there was also a good selection of entrees and appetizers to choose from. I have to say the decor is definitely not there, but the focus is on the foods and dessert. Everything was so delicious and made just right (it was really spicy....!!!). Definitely, definitely make the trek out to Kent for this place because you won't be disappointed. Best part is that the owners told me they were going to begin lunch box deliveries soon, so I will order some boxes for our next office meeting too... Pros: prices, quality, taste more

You have to try it! 7/3/2006

We loved the Indian sweets sold in this shop. They taste better than anything I have tasted in Vancouver, BC (there are tons of sweets stores up there). We are so glad we came across this place last week! The place isn't cozy or inviting, but somehow the food and the employees make up for the lack of environment. The prices are extremely affordable for the quality of food we got, and we were surprised at the portions we received as well. We highly recommend this place to anyone looking for really authentic Indian food and from experience can say that most of the fancy places around Seattle don't even compare in taste! Pros: sweets and food are really good, prices are so low Cons: have to wait for food to be prepared, they close early more

Try coming here on Weekdays 7/1/2006

We recently headed down to Kent to try the food after we saw the Seattle Weekly cover awhile back. We were excited to try the sweets and the food, so we ordered the sampler, palak paneer, daal, and the mango shake. The food was absolutely delicious and we could taste that it was prepared fresh in the back. I am not a big fan of plain yogurt, however, the bowl that was included with the meal was very sweet and I actually finished half the bowl! The sweets (I don't remember the names!) were very colorful and pleasing to the eye, and it was difficult to choose which to try and box for home. However, the owner was very patient and helpful in suggesting the items to choose. We liked the juicy donut holes the best!!! They were so fresh and tasty, we actually took home several boxes for some of our friends in Seattle. We will definitely be visiting soon. Pros: Excellent homestyle food, fresh ingredients, cozy Cons: the drive to Kent..? more

Sweets are yummy! 6/27/2006

I haven't ever tried Indian sweets before, however one of my coworkers brought in this absolutely delicious dessert from this place in Kent! I decided to go out and try some of the items, and needless to say they were just eye catching. I liked the milk desserts the best, however, there was such a huge selection to choose from that I definitely need to make a few more trips. The best part was that the owners told me they make everything from scratch in the kitchen, and I could taste how fresh it was too! Pros: Food is excellent, prices are reasonable, owners are friendly Cons: closing time is 8 PM more

Best Indian food I've had! 10/2/2005

I have traveled extensively across the US and tried many upscale Indian restaurants as well as small family diners. Until recently, I thought that the best Indian food I had was up in Vancouver, but Punjab Sweets quickly proved that notion wrong. I tried the mulai kofta, palak paneer and some of the appetizers. The food was incredible! You could taste the fresh ingredients used in each dish, as well as the spice level was perfect. Although, I might have preferred a bit less spicy, although it didn't seem to interfere with the taste. I will mention that this is a vegetarian place, so this may scare off some. But please go and try it... it is definitely worth the drive down to the South End! Pros: Very low prices, Small family place, Friendly owners Cons: located in Kent, Closing time is 8 PM more

Sweets are excellent 9/8/2005

I came to visit some of my friends recently in the Seattle area, and they took me to Punjab Sweets. Honestly, my first reaction was where did they take me? The interior was very plain and unlike most places I frequent in the Bay Area. After I sampled some of the food and the sweets, I understood exactly why my friends were hooked to this place. Its like homemade food, just like how Indian food SHOULD taste. The sweets tasted so good....the gulab jamun is better than anything I have had in all of the Bay Area as well as back home in India! The jalebi was really good too. We got lucky because we got there just as hot jalebis were being cooked in the back. Next time I come up to the Seattle area, I will definitely be back here! more

Consistent service every time! 6/11/2005

Just thought I would mention that I recently visited Punjab Sweets and found the food to be just awesome. It had the right amount of spices, quantity, and most of all prepared as if it were homemade! You might have to wait on the weekends, since it is very crowded so I have been told the weekdays are much quieter. more

A devoted fan of Punjab Sweets 6/6/2005

Its great to see Punjab Sweets finally getting some recognition. I have been a devoted customer since they first opened in 2001, and throughout these years the food has been very consistent. This place is for people really looking to find quality food at bargain prices. Besides the wonderfully prepared entrees, the sweets are the biggest attraction here. There is an assortment of fresh and colorful sweets to choose from. Try going on a day when they have just made hot jalebis with some chai! You almost forget you are in Seattle and not Bombay. more
