Best

Spent a quick hour here while visiting Tahoe recently. No American pubs will ever live up to the ones in Ireland, but the food at McP's was great! I'm so tired of the food options...

This place was recommended by my sister and I was glad that I listened to her this time. This place will make you focus to achieve what you are looking for. more

Definitely coming back 7/27/2011

Spent a quick hour here while visiting Tahoe recently. No American pubs will ever live up to the ones in Ireland, but the food at McP's was great! I'm so tired of the food options in America, so McP's offered a refreshing taste for the afternoon of my visit. Staff was great and the place was well taken care of. I will definitely return on my upcoming visit this August. more

Sooo Good! 7/13/2011

I have been here before a couple of times and every time it is good. Good prices and good beer and the food is great. Maybe I was drunk but it was still good. I had the California Turkey and it was so good. Mt Tallac beer is so good as well. Peace out. more

Amazing Food! 7/13/2011

Given the reviews of McP's, I'm surprised by what a great experience I had there with my friends. But you definitely have to be in the mood for a divey pub that is just a chill place to hang out with friends. Given the apres ski options close to the base of the Heavenly gondola, McP's is pretty money. 17 of us were able to all sit down and eat some pretty tasty treats (nachos and quesadillas!) and drinks tons and tons of beer. Cozy, great fast service - I don't know what her name is, but that waitress never let anyone see the bottom of his/her glass of beer. And for tons of eats and drink, $420 for all 17 of us was awesome. more

Not bad! Not bad at all 7/12/2011

Okay, maybe this was more of a ""three star"" joint, but I'm giving it an extra star because it seems to be getting bashed here and I don't think it deserves it. After a day of being beaten within an inch of our lives by a timeshare saleswoman (ha ha, Heidi! We'll never buy a stupid timeshare! Thanks for the free dinner vouchers!) and then having our free dinner reservations screwed up (curse you Heidi! We'll have our revenge!) and then wandering Tahoe aimlessly we came across this place, and it was just what we needed. Cold beer, cheap food and a good ""dive bar"" type vibe. The service was pleasant and fast, I never had to wait for a fresh beer, and my barbecue chicken quesadilla was pretty damn tasty. Not bad! Not bad at all. more

Would definitely come back 7/12/2011

I liked this place. A group of us actually came down here after leaving Harrah's because of bad service and lack of....well, fun. This place is all that you would want from an Irish Bar - good drinks, friendly staff and its draws a fun crowd. The area they have bands play is a pick packed, and doesnt seem quite large enough to accommodate live music. Would definitely come back here next time I am in South Lake. more

Lively atmosphere and food was pretty good 7/12/2011

I don't know if I went on a good day or not or my friends and I were just so starving after a day on the slopes that we would have eaten anything. After walking around Heavenly Village for a while and finding a minimum of a 30min wait everywhere else, our 5 person group settled for McP's. The smell, walking by, was fantastic, and they had beer. What else could you possibly want? There was even a band that was warming up at about 9pm but we were way too tired to stick around for it. We were told that there was a 20min wait but that we could got to the bar. At the bar, we found a table and that became our table. So basically we got a table in about 4min. Because we were all about to die of hunger, we ordered some veggie nachos ($10.95). They were actually really good. It was a huge plate of chips, beans, cheese, guacamole, sour cream, jalapeos and a bunch of other things. Either way, it was great and it really helped with the hunger. I had a Fat Tire, which was on tap, and a Meatball Supreme ($8.95). Basically, it's a meatball sub. It comes with chips and potato salad. The bread was pretty standard but the meatballs were really great. My boyfriend had the Philly Cheesesteak which was really well done. All in all, the staff was friendly, the atmosphere was really lively and the food was pretty good. more

Meals were great and came out fast 7/5/2011

Solid 3 star dinner. I didn't realize it was such a hot spot in Tahoe, but the place was packed at 8pm. We waited about 10 minutes for a table and were whisked upstairs which seemed to be a tad quieter. Drinks were quickly brought over to our table and we ordered a plate of nachos to start. Our meals came out relatively fast - tacos, burrito, pasta and ribs. And once we started in on our dinner, our appetizer was served. Nothing like a huge heaping pile of chips and cheese while your having dinner. The food was fine, we caught up with our friends while having dinner and watching a bit of ESPN. The bill came around and it wasn't outrageous like so many of the places in Tahoe, so all in all, it was a good dinner. more

5 solid stars 7/5/2011

Went here on two occassions this weekend - this review is a combination of both experiences. Returning from Harrah's after a heavy meal followed by cigars and single malts, McP's presented an inviting break from the dreary cold of South Lke Tahoe - it was packed, even at the late hour. Signs advertised great food, drinks and live music - McP's delivered on all three. That evening, I got a Guinness and the bartender scored big bonus points because he poured it PERFECTLY - what a draw! And he finished it off with the most perfect shamrock I have seen this side of Dublin! Plus 2 stars just for that!!! We moved upstairs where there was a live jazz band performing. We hung out on the outside patio for a while (it is covered for winter) and then left. ~ 5 stars for ambiance, location, drinks, bartender We returned next day for lunch. I had the Gyros... yeah, I know, odd choice for an Irish restaurant but they had very few Irish selections. Michael C. ordered the full rack of ribs. His salad was good, mine (Greek salad) was meh at best - and the dressing was decidedly unappetizing. The gyros were great - I think the meat was fresh off the spit - not the thawed kind. The ribs were great as well - not too spicy, cooked till the meat fell off the bone - very tangy! Of course, there were leftovers that went to a lucky dog that wew found outside with a homeless person. ~ 3 stars for the food Waiter was very helpful, funny and attentive. He was checking up on us regularly and made sure we got a box for the leftover ribs. ~ 5 stars for service Overall, this would get a 3 stars from me. Live jazz is an automatic plus 1. Shamrock in my Guinness is another plus 1. Shamrock in my Guinness - I like how that rolls off my tongue... I wish I was in Irelend!! 5 solid stars - you can bet yer knickers I'll be back next time laddie! Slainte! more

Hot apple pie! 6/21/2011

Ok three words. HOT APPLE PIE It's not what your thinking though, this is a drink. I came here last winter with a group of friends. We ordered a round of hot alcoholic drinks and this was one of them. Let me tell you there is nothing better than sippin on one of McP's Hot Apple Pie's warm and toasty while the first snow is falling outside. Aw, I can't wait to go back. more

Huge portions 6/21/2011

I had an enjoyable experience at McP's. I have had gastric bypass surgery, which makes it a bit of a challenge to find healthy, tasty and reasonably priced food while vacationing. I had the Chicken Satay Skewers appetizer, which was the perfect size for two bariatric meals or one meal for a regular person. They weren't true skewers, but thick slices of tasty grilled chicken with the traditional peanut sauce. My dining companion had the garlic bread- also yummy and a HUGE portion. We went around 7 pm on a Sunday evening... We had our pick of patio seating and quick, friendly service. I fully intend to return on my next trip to Tahoe! more

Live music, good drinks, and open late 6/15/2011

You know why I like this place? Because they were open late, had live music, good drinks, and they fed me well the following morning. Was up in S. Tahoe a few weekends ago for a light bachelor party. While we stayed in Harvey's, this was an evening stop off recommended by a few of the guys in our group. They hit the money on this place. Nice little 2 floor setup, with a balcony spot that's warm enough to seat in even during the cold months. Bottom floor is really just bar territory, but the upper area makes for good seating during the day (and converts nicely for the music to play at night). Really, it's a local pub place with some good food to boot. They treat you nice, no bad vibes, and it definitely made it so that whenever I come up to the area I'll be stopping in. Location is fabulous. Right by the heavenly gondola spot, and a block or two from the big casino hotels. Perfect stumbling distance during a fun night out as well, even if there's ice on the ground. more

Really comfortable 6/14/2011

real live music all week long and a really comfortable place to enjoy a drink. I like this venue much better than the one in Coronado, it has that traditional Irish feel with the mountain atmosphere. Great guitar player/singer on weekdays. It's a cool place to go to get away from the casinos and enjoy a beer or two and play some pool more
