Proto's Pizza

Proto's has quickly become 'the pizza place' in Boulder. Suddenly, delivery pizza doesn't even met status quo. Proto's successfully takes the stage with original pizza ideas all served on thin crust dough baked in a real pizza oven. The ingredients are fresh, original and inventive all at the same time. Some nights might call for a simple pepperoni pizza or perhaps their famous clam pizza. The options are endless. And if you don't like their options, well go ahead and custom make your own pizza. In additon to their awesome pizza, their salads are great as well as their desserts. There are few, if any, other places in Boulder where one can always get an authentic canoli. Their ligupr list is also top end, with intuitive drinks, great wines and wonderful micro-brews. The only downfall to all of this is the price and the often difficult challenge of getting a table. Pizza is tasty and interesting. If the atmosphere were nicer, we'd have stuck around for a glass or two of wine, and dessert; instead, we left as soon as possible. This is a place for people who are happy in a very noisy atmosphere; all the hard surfaces make for a constant din from music, kids, dishes, waitstaff talking loudly to each other, and even the dishwashing machine (I could feel the vibrations through my chair, an exciting experience!). A very gourmet alternative to the surplus of standard pizza places in town. The quality was a bargain, however the quantity suffered which is fine if you're not set on stuffing your face for cheap!!! more

We had a little trouble finding Proto's as the sign isn't very prominent, but we were very happy to be inside once we got there. We had a great waitress -- friendly and knowledgeable about the menu, and others also checked on us occasionally (it was a crowded Saturday). The restaurant is small, but we were seated almost immediately -- lucky that there were only 2 of us, I suppose! The salad, pizza, beer, and dessert were all delicious, and our bill for all that was only around $30. You should definitely try Proto's.
