Best

Excellent authentic food.. by far the best south indian food ever had in usa. Highly recommended, cheap and tasty. Pros: everything Cons: nothing

Average food, Below average service, Save your money 2/24/2008

Seating was prompt, but food was at best average. We ordered Rava Dosa and Masala Dosa. When they arrived, the Rava was cold. Sambar was watery and no veggies were to be found. Once the food was put on the table, no one came and checked. My kids wanted some extra sambar and we had to keep scouting for a person who would look our way. Service was therefore very average too. Overall I feel I have better Indian food choices in the St. Louis area where I would like to spend money in the future. Pros: Central Location Cons: Below average food and service more

did not enjoy 10/30/2007

i did not enjoy much about this restaurant. the food was so so the waitstaff was not very friendly. i will not go back to this one. Pros: good bread Cons: poor entree price and flavor more

Not authentic!!!!! 10/19/2007

I have just moved to St. Louis and so my family and I thought to eat some south Indian food. I will be blunt and brief here. The dosas were thick and a bit uncooked from the inside. The sambhar was watery like soup and not flavorful-just stingy on the lentils and no veggies in at all?Now to the chutneys: we did not even try except for the nariyal(coconut) which was over spiced up. The uttapam was thick and uncooked from middle along with being burnt at a few places. So we decided to order Muglai food from the menu...I know what you are thinking ordering north Indian food from the south Indian restaurant where the uttapam, dosas, and sambhar are not good, but we were hungry. Got the chicken makhani thali. The saving grace for my stomach was that at least I was able to enjoy the nans and raita the rest of the thali was not good. They were not even able to make even a proper dal(lentils) which they watered down and added too much garlic and ginger. The host, waiters and other staff were not hospitable, not inviting, just plain impersonal. Give them your cash and that is it?This is one place that we will never go again. Pros: seated promptly Cons: not authentic food from the southern or northern India, impersonal staff more

love this place 6/18/2007

Excellent authentic food.. by far the best south indian food ever had in usa. Highly recommended, cheap and tasty. Pros: everything Cons: nothing more

Different than other St. Louis Indian restaurants. Great flavors, though. 2/2/2007

I generally order a vindaloo whenever I go to an Indian Restaurant. The Priyaa vindaloo is extremely delicious, but it is quite different than other vindaloos I have had. It is not super-hot like most vindaloos, but the Priyaa vindaloo is still one of my favorite dishes in St. Louis. That being said, if you really are looking for a traditional, super-hot vindaloo, I recommend India Rasoi in the Central West End. The Vindaloo at India Palace was too tomatoe-y for me, and seemed more like a Madras sauce I could purchase from the store. Pros: Flavor Cons: Ambience more

Priyaa is not ""priya"" to me 7/25/2006

Priyaa (meaning dear in many Indian languages) is definitely not on my ""dear"" list of restaurants in St Louis. While I can grant that not everything they make is below average, I basically go there for a South Indian dining experience which is their USP (Unique Selling Point) in a city that has other (and better) north Indian restaurants. As such, if you go there expecting good Idlis, Vadas, Dosas, Sambar etc. you're more than likely gonna be disappointed. I had Rava Dosa the other day and that was not as bad as the Masala Dosa. Recommend going to the local temple on weekends for the best tasting south indian preparations ! Pros: Location, lunch buffet Cons: South Indian preparations are disappointing more

great food 1/20/2006

This is my favorite indian restaurent in STL. Dishes tends to be a little spicey (even if you order them mild). But I love the selection. They serve some southern indian dishes. more

Great taste and consistent quality of Indian food 10/10/2005

I have eaten at other Indian restaurants in the St. Louis area; Priyaa is my favorite for carry-out. Most of what my family eats are the curry dishes. These are always well-spiced (with the exception of bay leaves, there are few large spices left whole, which my family appreciates) and well-sized portions. They also give nan and rice with every dish. This family-owned and -operated restaurant has my loyalty (it takes me about an hour to drive to the restaurant and back to get the food) because it's simply tastes fabulous. more

Weak buffet 7/12/2005

I went here today for the first time and was wholly unimpressed. Small buffet, little variety and few items. Granted, there were 3 chicken entrees that I didn't try (I don't eat chicken) but the veggie entrees were bland. No lamb. No samosas. Lentil soup was thin. Nan sucked. Not recommended. Cons: Expensive, Poor variety more

Good food, decent value. 5/9/2005

Fairly nice, but distant... I ordered the chicken tikka masala meal, and for $14.95 it came with the chicken dish, basmati rice, three kinds of soup (one a dal curry soup, another a lemon zest flavored soup, and a vegetable soup), a cold cucumber and onion yogurt dish, and 3 kinds of bread: traditional nan, a fried flatbread, and the traditional paapadam. The service was good, although most of it came from a non-English speaking hispanic man who made it clear he couldn't follow any instructions. Value-wise, for $14.95, this is a great deal for the whole meal you get. The food was very well spiced; it didn't have the ""generic"" taste of some other Indian establishments. Overall, a great experience, the only downfall being it's way out suburban location. Pros: Value, Flavors, Menu Variety Cons: Distance from city, Service more
