Priya is a very non-descript restaurant located in downtown Suffern, NY. It isn't fancy and in fact, it's rather dark. But don't let that stop you. The food is authentic and tasty.
We usually start with an order of Jhinga Ka Khaja (try saying that three times fast)--a sumptous shrimp dish seasoned with coriander, spices and onions and served with a hot poori bread. Other appetizers include Pakora, Samosa and a couple of soups. Don't fill up on these because they'll spoil your dinner!
Entrees run the gamut from chicken, beef, fish to lamb and vegetarian specialties. Curries, sags, masalas and vindaloos--all offered here. The food is spiced appropriately and comes with fragrant basmati rice and dhaal. You can add other condiments such as tasty mango chutney, raita or cabbage thouran to accompany your meal. Authentic Indian breads are served here and they are delicious. Try nan, paratha, poori or roti. Portions are generous and usually there's something to take home for a snack.
This food calls for wine or Indian beer which is available by the bottle or glass. Or try a mango lassi, a refreshingly tart yet sweet yogurt drink.
Service is good and there is parking available on the street.
