Says something about CitySearch that this place has been closed 2 years and it still gets placed as 3rd best steak in town..WOW I want to place my vote for best hot dog..Place called Scotty's that closed in the 80's.. Pros: Closed Cons: Closed more

Shady Business 10/14/2008

The owners of this restaurant have closed the doors to the Jones St location. In the process that have stiffed their employees not only of a job but their wages as well. Suggest boycotting this establishmnent as well as any other buisness that this company owns until it pays its employees what they are due. more

Downtown location, disappointment 5/24/2008

My boyfriend and I went here on a weeknight, hoping to fulfill our craving for a wonderfully cooked steak...not so much. I can say that the outdoor seating, with the trains going by every now and then was nice. However, I certainly wouldn't rate this as an excellent steakhouse. Our servers switched out during the course of our meal and although both were nice enough, they were certainly not engaged or enthusiastic. They obviously would have rather been elsewhere. Also, the manager was seated at a table next to us, smoking a cigarette between occasional ventures inside. (Granted, it was a relatively slow night.) I found it odd that they didn't have a crumb sweeper. Our server just used her hands to sweep off our tablecloth and it was a bit awkward. I agree with the previous reviewer, that the vegetable side of green beans, red onion strips and corn was less than impressive. The most disappointing part of the evening was the steak. I got the petite filet and it was cooked relatively to my liking, but there was just no flavor. It wasn't a terrible experience, but certainly mediocre for a $100 meal. more

Downtown Location - Good Service, Mediocre Food 5/9/2008

We ate at the downtown (W Jones St.) location on a Friday evening at 6pm. We were greeted warmly and cordially and immediately shown to a table. Although it was early and the restaurant was mostly empty, we were seated in a cramped location with a curtain-covered wall hitting our shoulder on one side and a noisy family party table of ten next to us. I guess they didn't want the restaurant to feel too abandoned. Pros: Good service, easy parking Cons: Mediocre beef, potatoes, and vegetables more

not impressed--can't properly cook their steaks 3/12/2008

Been here twice now and and have not been impressed either time. We were there last evening and ordered the extremely expensive porterhouse for two medium rare to medium. It came out medium well. Sent it back and another was recooked--this time it came out rare. How is it that an establishment that purports itself to be one of the finest chophouses in the Triangle cannot sucessfully cook a steak to the proper doneness? Brie salad was lame, a too-large chunk of brie barely warmed served with no accompaniments other than a few leaves of salad and some bites of fruit. Potato was served w/o the butter ordered...had to use the bread butter. Service was attentive and fine but somewhat impersonal. Seems the local *Prime* franchise prefers overly formal semi-dour male servers. Prime 1705 is much much better AND is not in a strip mall, which is a plus. I also like Sullivan's downtown. The service is much more personal--formal but with a more personal engaging flair. And both 1705 and Sullivan's know how to cook to the proper temperature. Will definitely not return to Prime Only. It is way way way way way overpriced for the caliber of food preparation. Pros: cocktails were good Cons: food not up to par more

Great Food....Bad Experience 3/8/2008

We made reservations and were seated almost immediately but once we showed the server our coupon, service went downhill. We ordered an appetizer and received it but our bread never came. When the food arrived, our appetizers dishes were still on the table. The food runner just looked at us waiting for us to move our dishes. Once we did, she set the plates down abruptly. We saw our server again only to receive the bill. We may go back for a drink or for take out but never to dine in again. Pros: Great Martinis Cons: Terrible service more

AVOID for Valentine's Day!!!!!! 2/14/2008

We got there on time, the restarant offers a menu Only for Valentine's Day. First of all, I know it might be quick and easy, but the choices were bad. Had no choice but to sit, eat and experiment the night. more

Great Service, Bar Burgers, Outer Banks Martinis 7/8/2007

I got this great drink in the Wine cellar, great for all you ladies. It's called an Outer Banks Martini. It's made with Crown and I don't know what else. The service was great and both of the bars are totally relaxed and you can eat your whole meal there. Overall this place has awesome food, service, and atmosphere.... Pros: the barstaff was great, the food was great, Cons: there were people smoking more

Great Food!!!!! 4/25/2007

Best Sushi in town! You have to try the Goin Jammin roll! The Prime salad is wonderful. Allow for time for food preparation. The manager is very freindly. His name is James Iadanza. Please eat here, you will not regret it! The atmosphere is really interesting as well. Pros: Food is delicious! Cons: None. more

steak steak steak 4/8/2007

I have had many good times with friends and family dinning out here in raleigh but Prime Only off of Leesville rd is fantastic service and quality. The food is great on the other hand Leesville stands out as the only Prime Only in this area I would go to. The one in downtown Raleigh off of West Jones Street was very dissappointing. There service there was way below standard being that reservations were being seated well more then 2 hours behind scheldule and the hostess was running just to find new spots for guests. I was not impressed and will not ever go there again. So Prime Only off Leesville rd had my business and as for the one off West Jones street im sure there problems will catch up with them soon. Pros: Great food and quality atmosphere Cons: high turn out more

Much more than just Great Food! 3/1/2007

The recent donation of food by Prime Only to the Ronald McDonald House more

Best steak we have ate yet!!!!! 2/14/2007

Do yourself a favor and go to this place! This is the best food I have had in a while. Pricey but worth it. Great service. Took my wife the day before valentines and she loved it as well. We are going back for sure. Pros: Ambience, Food and service more

BEST STEAKS IN RALEIGH 2/8/2007

I have been to Sullivans (hated it) and Angus Barn and all the others and by far they have the best steak in the Triangle. The steak is always cooked perfectly and juicy and tender. The sides are to die for and save room for desert! They have the best creme brulle and cheesecake in the Triangle. If you love appetizers you have to try their artichocke and spinach dip -- another best in the Triangle. It is pricey but worth every penny. You get what you pay for with Its Prime Only. Not a place for kids just couples but make a great dinner. The ambiance is wonderful with the fountain and lighting and the service is always impeccable. It is a must try! Pros: Appetizers, STEAK, Desserts Cons: Not a good place for kids. more

One down, one to go! 2/6/2007

Never have I been so insulted or disappointed! A friend of mine reserved a room for her birthday party THREE weeks in advance. The reservation was for 7 pm. When we arrived another group (who had been there since 4pm) was still in the room. We were told our ""reservation"" (and I use the term very loosely) had been pushed back to 8pm! My party sat patiently and watched as other groups both with and without reservations were seated ahead of us. The Co-owner (another term I use loosely) came up to me at about 8:30 insuring me our table was almost ready. Mind you we'd been waiting since 7pm, and this was supposed to be the beginning of a well-planned birthday evening for our friend. When a group of teenagers who looked as though they were dressed for the prom came in and were seated before us, we decided we had seen enough. When we confronted the ""owner"", understandably upset, he quickly snapped at us telling us it was not his problem, he was NOT RESPONSIBLE, and that he did not need our business! How can the OWNER not be responsible? Who is more responsible? Maintaining a nonchalant and uncaring tone the entire time, he (Jimmy S.) even had the audacity to say he was ""very sorry!"" He was obviously NOT sorry as he made NO EFFORTS to appease us or to rectify the situation. At this point we had waited for 2 hours only to be dismissed for the incompetence of his establishment! Here we stood a group of customers willing to wait 2 hours for what we had HEARD would be a nice dining experience...ready to order our steaks and wine (eat drink and be merry) and the OWNER was refusing our business and treating us as if we had no right to be upset! It's easy to see why Prime Only is not on the triangles top 10 restaurants list. While I have never been one to play the race card, it was obvious this night that the name should be changed to WHITE ONLY as my group of Black friends stood by the door and watched party after party of White customers be seated ahead of us. Pros: No more Jimmy S! Cons: Jimmy S. more

More than satisfying dining experience 11/27/2006

I don't frequent high-end steakhouses, but was up in Raleigh on business and was told (along with some of the reviews here) that this was worth the trip. Indeed, very good dining experience. Six oz. filet is not served alone but with grilled veggies and a potoato and a loaf of hot bread which shocked me. That and a glass of merlot came out to $39 including tax and tip. Reasonable for about the most flavorful piece of meat I've ever had and served to perfection on a plate that came so hot, I could feel it radiating against my face. Very pleasant server and the manager stopped by to see how everything was to boot. Would go there again in a heart beat. Pros: Quality of food, preparation and service, ambiance, surprisingly decent value Cons: If you go appie, salad, entree AND copious amounts of bar drinks, you might melt your AMEX more

Best steaks in the triangle, service is impeccable, prices are reasonable for the quality 11/16/2006

Steaks are great and their cheesecake is the absolute best Pros: Service, Cons: seafood more

Angus Barn, Ruth Chris, Sulivans...Who??? 9/13/2006

If you want the best of the best go to Prime Only. Mouth watering steaks to the best desserts ever. What more can I say..THE BEST OF THE BEST. I heard they are opening another one at the old SouthEnd Downtown..Sulivan's..look out there is a new Sheriff in Town. Pros: Food and Service Cons: The Downtown Location is not open yet more

How did it get this rating? 6/15/2006

The service was very so-so, and actually disappointing for the menu price. I was not pleased with the seating situation, nor was the menu anything to scream about. I've had much better at other well known restaurants, and will continue to go to them. This was a one time visit for me. Pros: location Cons: staff, menu more

A lovely leisurely evening 3/27/2006

We're new in town and needed a fine steakhouse. We found one in Prime Only. All six of us loved the meal. We tried 3 appetizers (coconut shrimp, ribs and calamari) and all were good. The caesar salads were prepared at the table and were just right. The steaks were tender and cooked as ordered. We liked it so much we're bringing a group there for graduation. Be prepared for a leisurely pace. Nothing was fast, but it all was good. We were even allowed to bring a cake as it was our daughter's birthday. Pros: the food, accommodating Cons: slower pace more

Just Terrible 12/18/2005

We decided on Prime Only for their new sunday brunch for a birthday treat - boy was it awful! Most of the items on the buffet, and especially the carved prime rib, are ice cold. And you don't even get a big enough slice to make a sandwich. The service was just awful - had to have other waitresses get us a glass of water because ours went MIA. Also, we weren't offered drinks from the bar (bloody mary would have been great) even though other patrons had drinks. Bad food, bad service, bad place. Cons: cold food, awful service more
