Never a bad meal 10/20/2008

My husband and I dine at Prime 112 whenever in Miami and it is by far our favorite restaurant. We have never had a bad experience and the food and service is always consistently amazing. We learned from our first dinner to avoid ordering entrees and instead having apps and sides to enjoy more variety from the extensive menu. Go in with a good attitude and be prepared to wait and you will not be disappointed. Try to save room for the deep fried oreos. Pros: Sobe Hot Spot Cons: Long wait, but worth it more

Best in miami 10/1/2008

I love prime 112! The food is great the service is great! I have been there several times and it is by far my favorite restaurant in miami! The only downfall is waiting even when you have a reservation...and I'm not talking 20mins. I have been to several of the best steak houses across north america and to me this is hands down - THE BEST! The food is incredible. Pros: Food, service, ambience Cons: Waiting even with a reservation. $20.00 for a glass of house wine. more

Not as great as it's hyped up to be 5/28/2008

So we got a reservation through a ""friend"" of a ""friend"" on Monday night, and sat down immediately! So far so good. The menu was not as expansive as I though it would be, and the sides were not that appealing, and were too plentiful for 3 people. They should serve smaller portions so you can actually finish the sides. The mac and cheese tasted rather garlicy , too strong for me. When a ""famous"" rap music producer came in, my daughter turned to look, then said she wasn't sure the person was who she thought it was. I told her to Google him and get the picture, then she would know. Well, I guess the ""celebrity police"" otherwise known as the hostess overheard me saying to my daughter, "" did you get the picture"" and she stormed over and said NO PICTURES! I tried to get a word in to say we were googling, not taking pictures, but she kept repeating herself, ""We don't allow pictures...You can't take pictures...Its rude etc..."" Well my Bronx almost came out, but I tried to be the better person and said ""Dont worry we aren't taking pictures."" Pros: quality of the steak was good Cons: staff has klittle to no customer service skills; not friendly or smiling more

Avoid, Tuscan is better 5/9/2008

Rude hostess, never have table for 2 persons even when calling ahead of time. They think they are the only steakhouse in town. Iam a concierge on south beach and I get negative feedback 70 percent of the time from guest I send there. Bottom line I had a bad experience whenever I have rude guest I send them there have fun dont be rude to hotel staff or you might just find yourself eating at overpriced prime 112, seatting on top of eachother more

Looks like a colonial barn on the outside, not a cool sobe restaurant 3/23/2008

food was adequate...front door person simply not well trained or managed. Didn't feel wanted? Cons: cramped average more

pretentious without a cause 3/15/2008

Prime 112 wouldn't be able to hold its own if it wasn't for location. The staff is pompous and the sitting was one atop of each other. The service was unattentive and the steak was prepared at the wrong temp. and was a bit cold. Being a person that travels to miami frequently on business from NYC and dining at greats like Peter Luger and Gallaghers, I can't see what the big allure is. I've tasted better steak at Ruth Chris in Richmond Va. Unless you like bad holy then thou service and sub-par cuisine avoid Prime 112. Save yourself the trouble and go to Smith and wollenskys or better yet Tuscan steak that has stood the test of time for good reason. Pros: location location location Cons: pompous staff, sub-par steaks more

busy 1/31/2008

We went on a tuesday night. we sat outside, the place was crazy busy . The food was great. the service was awsome. Yes its very expensive if you cant swing it then don't go. Pros: best steak in miami Cons: busy more

What a Disappointment 1/10/2008

To begin with the valet parking was outrageously expensive and the parkers were rude. The french onion soup was utterly awful, and the other appetizers were bland and tasteless. They charged several dollars just to brush my steak with butter. I've had better steaks at Outback.. Skip this restaurant and go somewhere else. Pros: Waitstaff was very nice and food presentation was nice Cons: Price, food was tasteless more

Great Mashed potatoes! RSVP a must on weekends! 11/17/2007

I had a great b-day dinner there, private room with great service and the decor was beautiful! Not the best steaks I ever tasted but they were ok but the mashed potatoes were great! Great place to dine with friends, hip and very trend and great service! Pros: Service, Mashed potatoes, decor, ambience Cons: kind of pricey for average food more

WORST EXPERIENCE EVER !!! 8/15/2007

Word is that Prime 112 is HOT ! Pros: NOTHING !! Cons: OVERPRICED<< RUDE<< RUDE<< AND RUDE SERVICE !!!! more

Excedrin Headache for Good Steaks 5/25/2007

In typical Miami fashion, Prime 112 is perhaps the most expensive steakhouse in the Miami area. On a Sat. night recently, we were kept waiting for a full hour after our reservation time, very usual for this place... more

Best Steakhouse to see and be seen... 5/6/2007

Prime One Twelve is good, but it isn't THAT good. I will give you a brief synopsis, as I have been there about 30 times. The ambiance is good, but on weekends it is so crowded you can't move. Ask to be sat upstairs if they will let you. You must call a few weeks in advance, by the way to get a table. They are always packed. If you can, try it first on a week night. You being unknown to the staff, and not a regular will wait for your table even with a reservation. I have had to wait myself twice, and it is, what it is. They are swamped. The bar area is extremely packed usually which I find irritating. It's tiny and narrow, and people will keep passing by and smush you. Anyway, the table layout is a bit screwed up, but it's a old building they restored so not much you can do about it. The food is good, but for what they are charging it better be. Expect to pay at least one hundred dollar per person, EXCLUDING tip and alcohol. Recommendations? Well I have had everything on the menu. It's all good. You can't go wrong. The service is efficient. Never had a problem in any of the times I have been there. It is a good place to go if you are star struck, and want to ooh and ah at the who's who of Miami. I am unimpressed by that as I have lived here all my life and go out quite a bit. But if that is your thing or you want to impress a client, take them there. However, don't expect to talk business if you take them there Thursday, Friday, or Saturday night. Enjoy. Pros: Food is very good, service is good, great for star-struck people Cons: Tiny crowded bar, Expensive, LOUD more

Rude host staff, nose-bleed prices - but the food and drinks are awesome 4/5/2007

Initial impression: Rude, ditzy, poorly-trained host staff. Our other party members were late, but we knew they were coming. We asked to be seated so we could begin ordering wine and drinks, but were told the whole party had to be present before being seated. She also told us we had two hours before they wanted to turn the table - I've NEVER been spoken to like this at a restaurant! Pros: Food and drink quality, history Cons: Rude host staff, high prices, crowded, literally asked to leave after a certain amount of time more

Great food, pricy wine, worried hostess, Friday is slammin! 4/4/2007

I had a business dinner arranged and had plenty of time to get the reservations I wanted several weeks in advance. 3-30-07 Friday night at 6:45 PM. I arrived early with my wife at 6:35 PM. The others in my party were all late. They arrived at 7:25 PM. They will not seat you until all of your party arrives. So we did not order a drink or anything during my wait. The hostess came up to me and said (could have said it nicer) ""Is your party going to arrive""? I asked her ""Are you receiving the tip?"" Long story short: The rest of the group got there, we ordered way overpriced wine, and some great food!! We dumped about 1K for 6 people. When the wine was gone and the dessert was finished and we were laughing and having fun at about 10:00 PM they asked us to leave because they needed the booth we were in. Friggin nervy. Bottom line: Great food, overpriced vino, great service, won't go back on my dime but I will on someone else! Finito. Pros: Food! Cons: Wine! more

The place to go! 4/3/2007

Great food, great ambiance. I have eaten here several times since it opened, and never had a bad experience. The only draw back is that the bar area is not large enough for the amount of people waiting to be seated; also be prepared to pay a hefty price Pros: variety of menu; quality of food; ambience Cons: very crowded; prices more

Our ""unforgettable"" experience at Prime 112 1/15/2007

Our ""unforgettable"" experience at Prime 112 on South beach started way before the car attendant asked me for $30 to park (exhibit) my car right in front of the place. For weeks I had tried to get a reservation for my family. Every time I called the experience was the same. A ""lady"" full of attitude would always put me on hold immediately and had me waiting for at least five or ten minutes and sometimes for more than one time during the call. Every time she would say that even though I was calling days in advance of the desired date and time, it would always be the same result, nothing before 1130 PM. The answer came right away and blunt and it seemed like she never even checked to see if there was anything else (playing ""hard to get"" and busy was my impression). In view of my lack of success I asked my wife to try as she is patient and maybe the ""lady"" did not get along with men very well. After going through the same treatment and holding for some 15 minutes, she was ""able"" to get a reservation for 530 PM on Sunday (not the day we wanted of course nor the hour). Not a person to ever curse, my wife told me what a b...h after her experience with old friendly. Once we were seated, the unenthusiastic attendant went through the motions and we were served. The food was average (do not go for the key lime pie) and the service OK. The only portion which was big was the check. Over $400 for four people, three of which were non-drinkers of alcoholic beverages. What was very interesting was that my wife had been told that it was 530 PM, take it or leave it and the restaurant was empty at 5:30, 6:00, 6:30 and half empty at 7:00 and not that full at 730 when we left, so I wondered why almost a week before, when we made the reservation, we could not get anything better than 530 PM on Sunday!!! Net net, another one of those highly priced, hype full, south beach restaurants which are not very customer friendly although I have to say that old friendly takes the cake. Pros: Porterhouse Cons: Highly overpriced, Rude staff, Impossible reservations more

Stay Away from the Key Lime Pie 1/14/2007

After 3 times trying to get reservations we finally got one today at 5:30 PM. You have to pay 30 bucks for keeping the car in front of the restaurant or 15 if the valet brought it to the lot. We go inside and there is only one other couple there. We sit down and get the menu, honestly nothing special. Some overpriced steak, highly overpriced sides which I did not even order because they seemed really bad. I got a wedge salad which was pretty good, a lot of dressing and two types of lettuce. Then the entrees came out I had a Filet Mignon it was O. K. I had asked for a ""homemade"" steak sauce which tasted like A1 and honey. My mom had Filet Mignon but hers was butterfly cut and tasted like hamburger meat. My dads T-bone was excellent. My brothers fish had crab on top which had cheese that tasted like doritos. Finally dessert came I ordered Key Lime Pie...don't get me started, I took one bit and I put my fork down and started laughing it was horrible. I'm not exaggerating when I say it tasted like feet. My brother said it tasted like a cheesecake made of Swiss cheese. My mother had a chocolate pudding cake which was very good. The check brought a comment card, big mistake. When I came home and went on their web site to complain there was not place to leave a comment. I guess because they were being left too many complaints. If you want steak go next door to Smith & Wollensky. So many better restaurants around like Joe's and Capitol Grill Pros: Big staff, O.K. food Cons: : Key Lime Pie, Prices, Rude Receptionist, Impossible reservations more

I Hope It Won't Be Here In Two Years 1/14/2007

I guess when your one of the hottest restaurants right now you might forget to do the simple things correctly. Prime 112 is the talk of the town, but hopefully for not much longer. It?s a place to see or be seen because it definitely isn?t there for the food. I have been to all the good steakhouses Miami has to offer and Prime 112 is at the bottom of that list. When you call yourself a steak house and charge the same prices as the best you should at least try to keep up with the big boys. Prime 112 shows itself to be simply this, a poser. The hostesses are clueless and rude, you?d think they'd be more then dumb bimbos when you pay top dollar (there nice at Capital Grille, pretty and smart, try it Prime 112). The waiters are numerous but they can?t compare to the knowledgeable and professional waiters found at Smith & Wollensky and Capital Grille. The food was mixed, the grouper was odd and covered in cheese sauce, the sirloin was of the same quality as one made in a microwave, the filet mignon was nothing compared to steaks found elsewhere, the only good main course was a porterhouse that was done well (has to be since its the most expensive plate on the menu). This place makes you pay for sauces, that?s right sauces, we ordered some.... steak sauce (A-1 with honey I?ll make my own thank you) and a chimichurri that I could make in five minutes (good going for a steakhouse in Miami). The deserts dear lord what did I do to deserve this ok pudding cake and key lime pie (again we are in Miami it should be easy) which tasted like a cheese cake made with Swiss cheese and not even a hint of key limes. As I walked out of a horrible over priced meal that took us 3 reservations to land, I could only laugh at the idea of people who liked this pseudo-tourist trap because they should be going to Smith & Wollensky right next door for a real meal, good service and a place that will still be here in two years instead of a Flemings wannabe. When you copy others try to improve! Pros: Location, You ""look"" like your rich when you eat here Cons: Bad service, horrible hostess, below average food, hard to reserve more

worst attitudes ever encountered 1/9/2007

I can't comment on the food because I was so turned off by the snotty little trollop who messed up my reservation that I left without eating there. Anyone who would pay big money to be treated like a peon, no matter how good the food supposedly is, should have their head examined. Also the word is they write great reviews for the place and send them in under assumed names. Prime 112 can kiss my royal backside. more

Delicious Food, but not a great dining experience 12/21/2006

Prime 112 is a hot happening place that it is practically impossible to get a reservation at. The food there is excellant, even though my steak was undercooked and the servers are very attentive. But, the place is very cramped, making you feel as though you have absolutely no elbow room or room to move your chair. And worse, the place is very loud. If you are interested in having a conversation with anybody at the table besides the person directly next to you, do not go here. Also, although the steaks and sides are yummy, it is very overpriced. Just as good steaks can be had at smith & wollensky for cheaper with less noise and more room to move around. Pros: Food, Service Cons: Ambience, Noisy more
