I have been a member of the Powerhouse Gym for about 5 years now. I was a member at the original Powerhouse on Grand River and now at their current location on Hagadorn. It is incredible how much work and effort has been put into the old, run-down Gold's Gym which is now Powerhouse. All of the machinery used to not match or work. The walls were a disgusting shade of yellow ochre with burnt orange stripes. If you go into the Powerhouse now, it has been newly painted cream and black for a clean, sleek look. This gym provides a variety of well maintained and clean machinery and offers a dozen of both treadmills and elipticals. As for a clean environment, it is cleaned daily and provides cleaning materials for all machinery after use. How do I know this? When you go workout, you will see the staff constantly cleaning the equipment.
This gym has been stereo-typed as the gym where the ""meatheads"" go, but honestly the members who belong to this gym are of varying sizes, shapes, and abilities. I am a 24 year old female who is not considered the thinnest woman by any means, but I can honestly say this gym has changed my life. I lost 80 lbs and went down from a size 22 to a size 10 with the help of two amazing trainers, one being the current owner/manager and the other, a top trainer. From day one, I was immediately welcomed and encouraged to by my healthiest even though I was not the thinnest, most beautiful person there. This gym and my trainers never gave up on me or let me down. They also never made me feel like I did not belong there, but treated simply as an individual who wanted to better myself in a healthier way.
If you are looking for a gym where the staff genuinely cares, you need look no further. All you need to do is talk to Scott, the manager. I promise from that day on, every time you walk into Powerhouse Gym you will be greeted by your first name...because this is what Powerhouse East Lansing is all about.
My name is Stefanie and I am a Powerhouse success story.
