I was really excited for the Halibut with Corn and Green Chili Chowder. Unfortunately, there was not a green chili to be found on my plate and it was very bland and dull. When the server came to check on us I told her the issue. I asked her to bring green chilies to mix in. She proceeded to bring red pepper flakes, told her no, so then she brought sriracha. It was very disappointing. She offered to bring me something else, but by that time my husband was done with his meal and we didn?t have all night to sit there, she made no other effort to compensate for the bad meal. A few days later I talked to a friend who had been there the night before we were, she had the same dish and said it was fantastic and she could both taste and see the green chilies. more

Whenever I visit my children & granddaughter in Denver, I want to include dinner @ Potager. Absolutely fabulous decor and some of the finest food and attentive service we've experienced in a long time. We love it. more

I always wanted to check out Potager. Hip neighborhood and a fun crowd. I struggled with what to order, the menu had few selections that sounded pleasing and within a reasonable price point. The duck salad I order was underwhelming. Small plate of duck pieces and mushrooms, all for $15. I asked why there was no greens since it was called a salad. I was offered a plate of steamed greens, which I accepted. It was tasty, but then I was charged an additional $8. So, $23 for a little bit of food. I would say unless you like spending a lot of money on a little food, I would skip it. more

Potager is one of many restaurants in Denver touting a local, organic theme. After hearing so many of the ingredients came from places like North Carolina, we threw the notion of local out the door. The setting is great inside and having been the first table to be sat the night we went, our expectations were high. Our server came to our table 5 times in 10 minutes to see if we were ready to order and interrupted our conversation each time by hovering. The dishes were good, but not great for the price. The celery soup was served in a very shallow bowl, enough for 7-8 bites. The fisherman's stew had little to no associated broth...leaving us wondering why it was called a stew. The chicken, while seasoned nicely, was undercooked and wreaked havoc on my digestive system for 16 hrs. It was nearly impossible to get in touch with anyone at the restaurant to alert them to the issue the following day and no one ever returned my phone messages. Overall...the service was not great, the food, while good, was not out of the ordinary, the menu was very typical for this style of restaurant, and the portion/price ratio was very poor. Potager is by far my favorite restaurant in Denver and that's a lot coming from a veteran foodie like myself! Working with fresh, local ingredients their chef consistently delivers dishes that wow me and my friends. I was so impressed with this place the first time we ate there that my wife and came back the next night to sample desserts and wines. Even their cappuccinos were top notch and a perfect finish to one of their wonderful meals. On top of their fabulous food, Potager offers a serene backyard patio to enjoy their wonderful wines and small plate items under Colorado's blissful spring, summer and fall evenings. I've never called out another reviewer in any my reviews - that is until now. The young lady who gave this place two stars and referred to the food as 'barely edible' is WAY off base. The way the chef builds the fresh seasonal ever changing menu is nothing short of a work of art. As for all around taste, quality, and presentation, this is our favorite place in town. The nicest staff... experts when it comes to recommending a good wine. They all love their jobs. As someone who likes to cook and more importantly enjoys fresh, often organic, healthy eating without processed foods, this place is heaven. The skill the owner/chef has with combining flavors is mind boggling. I would never think to try some of these combinations and at times am unsure about them until they make it into my mouth! The cheese souffle if they have one is the best on earth. I actually ordered a second one last visit after our meal and dessert! Pros: Everything!!! Perfection! Craziest thing...I showed up and wanted to remove the panchetta from a pizza to make it vegetarian. Was denied, because it was too hard the first week of a new menu. So...what makes it so hard to NOT place pancetta on a pizza, instead of PLACING it on the pizza...but still charging for it. The restaurant was half empty, and we were offering to pay more profit for a product that is so easy to make...but instead I only purchased a salad and spent only $8 dollars at the restaurant. Guess they have more money and more patrons than they need...or they don't know the v alue of a penny on every product they serve. Won't be visiting any time soon... Pros: Servers Cons: Kitchen more

One of Colorado's Best and Supports Local Farmers: Rarely if ever will this wonderful place dissapoint. This is the type of business locals take visitors to for a dinner night out. Yes - it's louder with old brick walls exposed and an open kitchen, but that ambience is not your typical LoDo shabby rehab with so -so food. Terri and her crew have been a success in creating a comfortable menu and completely unintimidating list of choices. The service only struggles if super busy - but relax - take time at this place and be gracious. They appreciate the customer without fail. Support our best dining venus in these harder times! more

Last night my boyfriend and I decided to celebrate my birthday at Potager ... both he and I were more then impressed with the fresh exciting menu... however the service left both of us with a bad taste in our mouths. When we were there it was before the dinner rush, this would lead one to assume that the service would be amazing throughout our meal, however this was not the case at Potager. There was next to no one anywhere else seated within the restaurant. However there were several servers standing around.... we waited 15 minutes before even seeing our server.... both my boyfriend and I have done food service, so we both understand when it is busy if it takes a server a lil extra time, but this was not the case last night. throughout the whole dining experience it all came down to service as being the one thing that was lacking for both of us... before even deciding to go to Potager we both read the reviews on Citysearch and saw that the service was less then appealling, however it was the food that we were there for. My boyfriend had the grass-fed sirloin while i had the Mahi Mahi...... both dishes were amazing and I would definately enjoy either again, however the lack of service has led both my boyfriend and I to decide that eating at Potager was a one time thing...... Ive read a lot of the bad reviews but ive been there twice and had a very positive experience. The dishes offered are unique and fresh. Atmosphere was great and the service was very good. The price is also reasonable for a restaurant of this quality. Good wine selection. Great patio. Good food for a reasonable price! Pros: Ambience, food, and service Cons: dont take reservations more

I went there for one of my kid's birthday. More than half of the menu was not available. The kids being settled in their chairs, sipping their iced tea was the only reason that kept from leaving when the waiter disclosed that, baiscally, they had run out of food. He offered pizza! So if you like pizza and an ultra-super rude hostess, be Potager's guest! more

Potager is one of those unfortunate restaurants where the atmosphere exceeds the product. The setting is a little shabby, a little chic and reminiscent of a French country restaurant. The outside patio is one of the best in the city. The food and the service, however fall well below par. I had been to Potager once before. Some girlfriends took me there for my own little ""anti-shower"" baby shower. It was an idyllic setting for a group of girls drinking, laughing and having a good time on a special day. But even then I was disappointed. I ordered the cassoulet. It was unappealing, lacking in flavor and showed no sign of being a labor of love (which it should be). My friends all pretty much felt the same. I was hesitant to return, but did so after receiving a gift certificate from a good friend that has raved about the place for years. The tilapia, highly recommended by the server was - in a word - boring. It fell short on seasoning, depth and portion - nothing worse than feeling hungry after a meal. The rib-eye, although cooked perfectly, was not like a rib-eye at all (typically all the fat makes this a very tender steak). It was chewy. Too chewy. And as for desserts, we had the cherry crisp. A crisp, whether it cherry or any other fruit, is so simple and soul satisfying that we all love them. If a restaurant is going to put it on a menu, it better be perfect. It was clear, however, the cherry crisp had been cooked well in advance; its temperature was barely warm but the overall flavor just wasn't there. Our empty plates lingered too long, we waited too long for each drink and started each course before the drinks arrived. Overall, we paid just shy of $200 for this meal (two apps, two mains, two desserts), accompanied by two glasses of wine and two beers. For years, Potager has been a breath of fresh air on Denver's dining scene. The place is casual and simple; the food is sophisticated--and always fresh. The service, attentive and efficent. The waitstaff know their food--and their wine. The changing seasonal menu brings anticipation with every visit. We just visited for the introduction of the ""second spring menu"" which was full of great offerings, including the nettle soup (earthy, savory and delicious), lamb meatballs with spaghetti and pesto, and lobster in a spring pea puree. Everything we had was exciting and well-prepared. Don't miss the chocolate pudding dessert. It's dark- chocolate heaven. I love this place and consider it to be one of Denver's best. And to the gentleman who wrote that he would rather eat his dog's genitals than eat at Potager. I wish he would. Pros: Great inventive and FRESH food. I would certainly rate this spot above average for its exciting uber-local ingredients and seasonal menus. The food, unfortunately, will be beside the point now. Then, after one lovely meal last month my date noticed our 20% tip (left on food and wine) magically had inflated by nearly twenty dollars when he recieved his bank statement. It left such a foul taste in my mouth, that their food will never taste good again. My first experience at Potager will also be my last. It started out on a bad note when the hostess would not take a reservation. Often restaurants will not take a reservations and that is fine, but when you are a party of ten they always make exceptions--not at Potager. So after a two hour wait and not a single comp'ed glass of wine or appetizer they sat our party. So with our expectations high (it must be good-look at all the people) we eagerly ordered from the average menu. I had the pork and she had the lobstar salad both sounded good and both were not. The price to portion size was a bad joke at best , and most importantly it simply was not good. My pork was over cooked and bland in flavor and lacked excitement. Many at our table ordered the steak and they too gave their dinners poor reviews. The service was average; already told you about the lovely hostess, and the waiter was unable to take our orders out of order (ladies first) as expected as such a high dollar restaurant. We waited forever for the waitor to end the experience and he repeatedly ignored our glances. The atmosphere of the restaurant was unfinished, the walls in the men's room looked like a construction site, as did the walls of the reataurant. With all the money they are taking from people one would think that they could finish off the cosmetics of the place. My favorite part of the experience was leaving. I think that you would be better off ordering fast food and speaking in french than eating at this 'french' establishment, even the French would not approve.
