I took my 13 week old bangel kitten here when I first took him here they were so nice to me and cheetah he had a lttle dierra and so he prescribed some medicane for him the second time I took him I found out that he lost some weight they took blood tests they found he was a little anemic they prescribed claromox that seemed to help him a lot he started gaining weight and started eating and drinking more they were all kind in that aspect I took him in again for a follow up they found that he did gain weight back and that he was eating and drinking more every morning he would jump off my bed go to his litter box than I would get up to feed him he loved the can food the best when I was their that day my sister lisa wanted to get a x ray done she thought his belly seemed big I looked fine to me I mean he was eating a lot I would give him hamburg and he also loved his chicken the same day they did the x ray the doctor told us that is most likely fip I was shocked at the time I did not know anything about fip but the doctor told us you don't have to put him down yet that was so awful of her to have said that I thought he was fine he was eating and drinkink he was sleeping a lot but I read the definition for lethargic and that was not him after the dionases I just wanted them to give him something anything I read more about fip and that it is a deadly diease and most cats that do have it will die but does that mean they could not of done something for him one of the other doctors that did the blood work the first time gave him fluids under the skin I right when I got him home he acurally started playing a little he was so cute and when I picked him up he seems so plump I know with the fip they can not only lose weight but muscle but I also read that you can do things to help them be more confortable like draing the fluid from the belly even giving a vitamin shot or immune boosters I called the dr one day and asked her about this well I never brought up draing the fluid from his belly but I did ask about a immune booster but she told me there is really nothing we can do I should of went for a second opion but I didn't just wanted to make him has confottable as I could but again I went in because he was thin and I just wanted to see if they could give him fluids under the skin since the first time it seemed to helped a lot but the doctor said that will just put more fluid in his belly he did give him a shot I think it was a steroid shot for inflammation and could make his appetite better it made him worse I noticed that when he walked he was off balace and his eating did not seem any better it was the same that morning he was on my bed he went to jump to his litter box which he has done many times and he missed it he just fell on the floor I picked him up and I held him he went to the bathroom on me I tried to feed him he did not want to eat I knew that he was not good I called the vet told them about his symtoms and that he must be the shot that is doing this to him she told the doctor but she said she was confident that it was not the shot I just wanted to take him in to see if they could do something to reverse the affect of the shot she said it is from the fip cheetah passed away that day I just held him in my arms and I told him it was alright he took a breath than he passed it was my own fault I shoul not of even went back than he would of never have had the shot and I also have copies of his recors I was looking through them and on one day it said disabled sister called this was very insulting to me I have a name and I would like her to tell me what she thinks makes me disabled more

My husband and I have taken our beloved felines to the PVC for more than 22 years, and we are forever indebted to the entire team for the exceptional care, advice and compassion they have given our cats, and us, throughout these many years. We lost all 4 of our elderly kitties (thanks to the PVC they were all nearing 20 yrs. of age) within a 2 year period, and the PVC was our 24/7 lifeline during this stressful, emotional time. The doctors always took as much time as we needed to explain in layman's terms what the diagnosis, prognosis and options were, and it was wonderful and therapeutic for me to feel fully part of my cherished feline's final stage of life. Everyone there truly loves animals and shares the joys and sorrows of loving a pet with their clients. Now we have 2 young feline boys, and we look forward to many, many years of the best possible veterinary care. I consider everyone at PVC my family! more

PVC offers the absolute best in all facets of veterinary car 3/2/2012

I have been a client of PVC almost since its inception almost 30 years ago. During all of those years, and supplying them with a steady stream of Boston Terriers passing through their doors, I have ALWAYS received the highest quality of care, both from the exceptional doctors who always put me at ease with their expertise and comfortable style, as well as from the wonderful & skilled vet techs and reception staff. I always get an appointment in a very timely fashion and always get an immediate answer should I call with a question. In the last 7 years, I have become involved in Boston Terrier rescue, & though the parent rescue organization has care agreements with several vets in RI which provide care at deeply discounted prices, I always choose to pay for my fosters to get their care from PVC, as I know it is the absolute best to be had. In the case of my own pets & foster animals, quality will always take precedence over a slight difference in costs involved. I am always made to feel as if I, and my pets, matter & are a valued part of the PVC family - & it truly IS a family! I just feel so fortunate that I have such an exceptional veterinary facility so close at hand. I would absolutely recommend them to anyone looking for excellence in veterinary care for the four-legged members of their family. PVC is, without question, the best facility out there. more

Simply the best 2/27/2012

I have been going to Portsmouth Veterinary Clinic with my pets since it opened. I have always had exceptional care and service. Everyone on the staff shows their compassion and thoughtfulness from routine appointments to more serious visits. From the veterinarians to the technicians to the front desk staff, I have always felt as if my pet was of the utmost importance, no matter how busy a day. Both of my dogs love everyone there, and I can't imagine going anywhere else. more

PVC is ""Where Excellence Meets Compassion"" 2/26/2012

For those of us who have come to know the veterinarians, staff and protocols of PVC over many years, many pets and many varied and complex circumstances, there are no finer. This practice consistently demonstrates the highest qualities of professionalism, competence, and compassion towards the pets placed in their care and, and just as importantly, the pet ""owners"". (Everyone knows that, in reality, our pets really own us!) I consider PVC to be part of my extended family, and I will continue to place my trust and my pets' care in their hands without reservation. more

What else did they do to my puppy that I am not aware of? 2/15/2012

I brought my 6 month old puppy in to get spayed and after the procedure I received a phone call saying that they removed one of her adult canine teeth. On my bill it says they had given her anesthesia twice. What they couldn't find my cell phone number? What else did they do to my puppy that I am not aware of? When questioned about this they acted like it was no big deal and they couldn't understand why I was not happy. I didn't even get the chance to get a second opinion to see if the tooth could be saved. When they went to get my puppy she was just thrown into my arms. I guess they didn't care that she just had surgery. more

Way overpriced 11/17/2011

Took my dog there and was not happy with the prices. Vets are good but they will take all your money. If you want to be overpriced go here. more

The BEST VET EVER 3/8/2011

I can not say enough wonderful things about Portsmouth Vet Clinic. What a blessing it was to find them as my 13 yr old dog got so sick. Dr. Kenfield is such a caring man-I felt like she was in the hands of family. They did everything they possibly could to save her, but in the end-I knew it was time to let go. Our other 2 dogs go there and any and every pet we ever have will as well. You will feel like they love your pet as much as you do. more

satisfactory 1/6/2009

As someone who has worked at vets and kennels, compared to places I've brought my pets to in the past, this hospital was cheap and a good place to bring your pets if you need speedy service. more

Most caring and professional staff I have ever experienced. 12/13/2006

I have been to several vet clinics as I have 9 pets. This group is unbelievable. They saved my cat's life twice as well. Their place is small but they are planning to relocate to a bigger facility. My experience with visits here is broad - from simple check-ups, to serious health issues, to, sadly, euthanasia. This staff made all those experiences easier. Pros: Empathetic staff, accomodating, friendly Cons: Space, but they are expanding more
