Great care, GREAT OB! 9/21/2011

Dr. Polon was my OB in 2005 for the full duration of my twin pregnancy and delivery. He was always personable, professional, and accessible. I was high risk and he took extra care watching out for me and my twins. He did his own ultrasounds in the office and carefully expained changes and put my mind at ease. He has a great bedside personality and was always very polite and gentle. In the last trimester, he even gave me his personal cell phone number to contact him directly if I needed anything. We discussed and agreed to a c- section due to one breech twin. It is my understanding that a c-section should take about 45 minutes start to finish. When my vitals on the table did not look good, he delivered both babies and closed within 6 minutes and my husband never had to leave my side. The twins were healthy and awesome at 38 1/2 weeks. The incision looks awesome too! He is a very skilled surgeon and a kind person. He even volunteers at the People's clinic to help those in need of quality care. You will not find a better OB or person. more

Positive and professional 8/14/2011

I came to Dr. Polon's office 14 weeks into a very difficult pregnancy after South Austin Hospital refused to admit me. i was in so much pain I couldn't walk. Dr. Polon admitted me on the spot for medical attention and pain management. I would lose that child a few days later, which was only the beginning of a year and a half of reproductive medical problems for me. Throughout this time, Dr. Polon was warm and professional. He was available to me during off hours, quick to return calls, whether I was in need of an urgent trip to the emergency room or simply some reassurance. I eventually was able to conceive again, in part due to the guidance and advice of Dr. Polon and was admittedly an anxious patient throughout the pregnancy. Dr. Polon was very understanding and reassuring without giving me any false expectations, just relevant facts and his medical opinion on the situation. A few years before, I would never have imagined I would have a male ObGyn and a hospital birth. In time, however, I accepted these personal concessions, and I grew to deeply appreciate Dr. Polon's accessibility and his professionalism. My husband and I will always be grateful to him for delivering our daughter and especially for taking me on as a patient when I was in urgent need of medical care and others had turned me away. Thank you, Dr. Polon. more

Not your average OB 10/20/2010

I saw dr. Polon for a consult during my pregnancy. I was under the care of my midwife and needed the all clear for a homebirth. The guy is blunt, very blunt. He was professional and non-judgemental about my potentional homebirth. I would use him as an OB if I had to deliver in a hospital. He validated my negative feelings about my previous c-section, with some choice words about the OB that performed the c-section. His office is a little plain, and the staff is so/so, but I definantly liked him. I have already suggested him to a co-worker. more

All 3 babies what a great doctor! 6/8/2009

My first pregnancy in 2005 I had no clue what my body was in for. Hubby and I thought to let nature do it's thing with the timing of baby's arrival. Dr P said ""we are taking the baby tomorrow."" It was 42 weeks+ the placenta was not doing its job any longer he'd said. Messy birth (grossest thing ever), 9.10 lb baby boy, head and shoulder stuck Dr. P was calm and had me calm.Dr P was able to get my son out of me with out breaking his collar bone or dislocating his shoulder. Dr. P saved my son's life and mine. Praise to Dr. Polon and all the staff at St.Davids. 3rd degree tear with this one even with the cut that Dr P told me he was going to do at that moment. Now at the moment my son entered the world Dr. P. told the nurses to keep him calm until he was cleaned up. Dr P kept my son from having internal infections by doing this. Messy birth =(Myconium/ babypoop) ! Recovery time was normal took the full six weeks to feel okay again. Stitches were all healed by my post par dum appointment. Took 2 months before baby and I knew what we were doing with nursing! My oh my was my chest sore. 12 months of nursing was my limit. Second Baby boy 2007 this time delivery was on the Due Date. 8.10 lb baby Dr. P saved this child too. The cord was wrapped around baby's neck turning him blue. After a few minutes color turned to a normal pink. Had a 3rd degree tear yet again! Big babies do this. The birth experience was better since the body had a clue this time. I was able to rest and nurse much easier this time around. Milk came in very quickly. Thank you again Dr P for my second baby boy. Now hubby went in for a vasectomy in Aug 07 different doc... so Baby # 3 was a complete shocker when Dr P told us about it at my yearly visit in 08!! Glad Dr Polon told my hubby at the same time as he told me. ""Sweetie there's a baby in there"" was what he said when the ultrasound was turned on. Baby girl 2008 was delivered on her Due Date too. 7.11 lbs much easier birth than any of the other 2! Could not believe she gave me a 3rd degree tear too! 6 hours after delivery in my new suite at the St. Davids newly renovated D & L wing I was able to get up under my own steam! Take a shower! And I walked to the nursery to get my baby and roll her back and nurse her. This experience was unbeatable! Got my tubes tided since Hubby's still hot! Dr P did the tubal ligation surgery for me too. Grateful to call Dr Polon my OBGYN!! He truly cares about doing a great job. And I recommend him highly! Life is never to plan so it's best to have a great surgeon. Dr Polon is #1. Pros: High risk pregnancys are no sweat with Dr. Polon . Cons: He's in demand. You will be lucky to have him as your ob. more

Amazing High Risk Pregnancy Doctor 2/12/2009

My husband and I are from Houston. We were in New Bransfuls for a wedding when I went into labor. We were lifeflighted from New Bransfuls to Austin. I had Severe Preeclampsia, HELLP Syndrome and Toximia. I had a 50/50 chance and so did my son who was only 25 weeks. Dr. Polon was the one working that night. He litteraly saved my life and my sons...well technically the nicu did. He was 1 lb 4 oz.. I can't say enough about St. David's NICU staff! But , Dr. Polon took such good care of me. A week after my surgery my HELLP syndrome relapsed. Doctor Polon was always available to me by cell phone and answered every call. He immediatly admitted me back into the hospital for another week becuase my liver was shutting back down. He was there checking on me every day. If he couldn't stop by he called and talked to me or the nurses. He came to my room and would sit down and talk to me, my husband and my parents and explain or answer any questions we had. He did everything possible to find out why I wasn't healing as I should, but because of the HELLP syndrome, my body just needed more time. He had me come in every couple weeks to check me while we were in Austin for 4 months with my son. He was just as professional in his office and so was his staff. They were all very nice. He took the time to explain to me what was going on. Once we left Austin he offered to call my new OB/GYN in Houston and explain to them my situation and what they need to watch for on me. I still keep in contact with him. If I could drive back to Austin every time I needed to see an OB/GYN i would. I have recommended him to all my friends in Austin. more

Best Doctor 9/29/2008

I had Dr. Polon with both of my children. He is the best, we had complications with our oldest son and he was clam and walked me and my husband through everything that was going on. He never showed us that we was worried which was great because I was 18 when I had my first. Both of our heart rates got low and they had to use a vacum to help him out, I was so scared but he never showed signs that he was. He stayed clam and that was so great. He was so nice and kind at check ups also, he is a very light hearted man and u don't find that much in doctors. I have recommend friends to him because of the exprience that I have had with him. I also had both of my kids at St. David's and didn't have any problems there my oldest was born in 2000 and my youngest was born in 2004. more

Technically proficient; horrible office 7/2/2008

I had my daughter with Dr Polon in 2003, she was a VBAC and it's hard to find a really good VBAC doctor. He was very good in that when she got stuck, he did not panic and was able to turn her without resorting to forceps or c section. He was calm and collected when I lost too much blo*d after delivery. (The nurse was panicking). Pros: Very good at what he does Cons: horrible office workers, too many patients in practice more

fantastic doctor 2/9/2008

I have been Dr. Polon's patient for about 9 years. He has treated me through routine gyn care, a breast lump, and two pregnancies. I have received excellent care from him in every instance. He is a caring doctor with a wonderful bedside manner -- frank and genuine but always warm. Even when he is swamped with patients and laboring moms, he takes the time to listen to concerns and answer questions. And when the going gets tough -- as it did when my baby's heart rate suddenly dropped to an alarmingly low level during birth -- there's nobody better than Dr. Polon. He explained what was happening quickly but thoroughly and gave me and my husband all the info we needed to make a decision. We felt very comfortable with our child's life in his hands. Dr. Polon clearly is a brilliant doctor, but he doesn't exhibit the kind of coldness you sometimes see in a brilliant doctor. My husband and I have made the decision to stay in Austin for a few more years in large part due to Dr. Polon. I wouldn't think of going to another OBGyn as long as there's the possibility of more pregnancies. I highly recommend Dr. Polon. Pros: everything about the way he practices medicine Cons: office location: it takes extra time to see a dr. who offices in a hospital more

Dr. Clive Polon MD 7/15/2007

I have nothing but the greatest admiration for Dr. Polon, his expertise, bedside manner, care, and concern for his patients. I have two children delivered by Dr. Polon even though we live in San Antonio, it was well worth the trip to Austin for pre and post delivery. Son Sean born in 2000, daughter Mika born in 2002. There are non better than this doctor so far as I'm concerned. As a side note, he took it great and even laughed when son Sean was born and pee'd right in the good doctor's face! :o) Pros: He cares and he is exteremely experienced Cons: None for me more

avoided likely C-section 4/11/2007

I chose Dr Polon based in part from recommendations from a couple of friends who were staff members at St David's. Some doctors talk a good game, but aren't that good technically and some are gifted jerks. I had two people who weren't a part of his practice describe him as friendly, fair, and a good doctor. I was only 3 weeks along, so I figured I had time to shop around. Pros: Dr and staff both friendly and communicative, delivery wishes treated with respect Cons: some waits for appointments, promptness still better than most more

Good Surgeon, Not so good bedside manner 3/27/2007

I have mixed feelings about Dr. Polon. I went to him in my 25 week of pregnancy after finding out I was pregnant with twins. He is considered a twin expert and I wanted someone who knew his way around twin births. I was hoping for a natural birth. I also had midwifery care at the time and thus felt like I had the best of both worlds. Pros: Great Surgeon, knowledgeable about twins Cons: Terrible bedside manner, too busy more
