Unique Asian flavors Ice Cream 2/18/2010

The Ice Cream here was not as rich and creamy as I would like but the flavors were delightful. I tried Durian, Sesame, Lychee and American Beauty (Rose), Taro, Green Tea and Jasmine Tea. American Beauty was very distinct. Rose flavored ice cream was unlike anything I had tried before. Unfortunately it reminded me too much of my hand soap. I liked the sesame one at first but after a couple more bites it became a bit too overpowering for my taste buds. My favorite of all was Durian but it is definitely not for everyone. For a safer bet I would recommend Lychee or Green Tea. Taro flavor was too artificial. Jasmine Tea was similar to Green Tea but with a more flowery after taste. Pros: variety of favors more

A local favorite for decades 8/1/2005

I've been coming to Polly Ann's for over 20 yrs. I was first introducted to their rose flavored ice cream, but coconut is my favorite now. The newly remodeled store is so much more spacious and welcoming and seating to boot! Worse time to go is around 3pm when the local school kids are out of school and making a ruckus in the store w/their cell phones and conversations. Skipped the ice cream floats, they use generic sodas and it tastes awful! You have a choice of having your ice cream served in a cup, plain, or waffle cone. They still serve exotic flavors, like taro (it's ok). more

fun for everyone-- ice cream near ocean beach! 7/27/2005

Polly Ann's is great because it has unusual and traditional flavors. My BF likes the flavors that are boyish like ""Star Wars"" and ""Batman."" Another unique thing about Polly Ann's is the ""wheel of fortune"" which has numbers on it, so if you can't choose a flavor, an employee spins the wheel and it can choose your flavor for you. BONUS- your spin might land on a free ice cream space! But, one of the best things about Polly Ann's is that every person who has a doggy waiting outside can get a free doggy cone -- a mini cone that is filled with dairy-free vanilla soft serve! Our dogs, Lucy and Charlie, LOVE the doggy cones. PA's also advertised that moms who stopped by on Mother's Day would get a free single-scoop cone. Try this cute and clean ""mom and pop"" establishment! more

Polly Ann's is back, on the same block, but a little further down, on the corner. The inside is much nicer with a lot more room and seating along the windows. They still have the wheel, the doggie cones, and all the plaques with the saying. And of course the ice cream is still awesome. Green Tea and Cantaloupe are my favorites this week... Although Polly Ann's is no longer at its familar middle of the block locale, it's ice cream can still be found in many local supermarkets. The most memorable item about Polly Ann's was its wheel of fortune game. Since there were so many flavors on the menu with fictious names, a confused customer could spin the wheel to pick a flavor. If the wheel landed on a flavor you were unsure about you had the option of picking the flavor to the left or right of the selected ice cream. The best part was the fact that there were many FREE ice cream spots on the wheel so each time you had the wheel spun you were betting for a free cone! Pros: Extensive candy, selection more
