I was born and raised here in Hamtramck. Polish Village is by far the BEST restaurant! From the old times when it was Zusia's, to now. The pork chops, city chicken, and dill pickl...

I work at a polish restuarant in dearborn called jims place and I am constantly hearing about the restuarant in the basement so i decided to give it a try.... it was packed i had ...

Polish Food 6/14/2006

I have been to this resturant several times; most recently, June 8, 2006, for lunch. Space was available immediately. I was attended to immediately. The food, however, was less than Polish in nature. I ordered the ""city chicken"" dish. What I received was: soup- Mrs. Grass'; vegetable- greenbeans; mashed potatoes- instant; gravy- jar; city chicken- homemade. I grew up on Polish food, and this is what I currently would make at home, but this is not resturant quality food! I expected home-made products, and what I received was mostly canned/boxed/premixed. Not the quality I would expect from this historic establishment. May I add that the imported Polish beer is a very good product! Pros: Good parking, good beer. Cons: Food could be better. Call ahead for large groups more

Some good foods 5/6/2006

The place is extremely popular. We waited in line for 40min while arriving at 5:20pm on Saturday. The waiting, though, is part of the place's charm. We have been served some very good foods: cucumber soup, crepes with traditional fillings - cheese and apple, cucumber with cream. The chilled Polish draft beer was oustanding. However, pork loin had a smell as if the meat were kept refrigerated for too long before being cooked. One of the dishes we were served was different from what we have ordered. Pros: good food, affordable, nice atmosphere Cons: quality varies, service just OK, don't take CCs more

Never Got In 3/9/2006

Tried getting in on 3/6/2006. Stood out in the cold as few people could wait inside, because it's small. After waiting 30 minutes, our party made our way in line from the street to the stairs. 10 minutes later, Polish Village needed to make room for the band. So, they took away tables that could of been used for customers, and placed those tables in the area where the customers were waiting, forcing customers who had waited in line out into the cold street once again. It was quite clear they didn't care about the customers. We asked the wait staff how long the wait was. They had forgotten how many in our party, we reminded them there was six. They laughed at us, and told us an hour. We left. I recommend no out of town visitor to Detroit ever go there, I think they only cater to locals. Cons: Crowded, Rude, Cold more

Polish food with no polish 11/28/2005

I drove up to Michigan from the DC Metro area to visit with my in-laws and to visit the Polish Village Cafe. (Not necessarily in that order) :) Our group of six showed up around 6:30 and were not seated until after 8pm. We were annoyed, but resilient because we KNEW it would be worth the wait. Pros: food, staff, authenticity Cons: seating, large group problems, adults-only more

Hamtramck's Polish Village 11/15/2005

Polish Village is the BEST Polish restaurant in the metro Detroit area. The food is abundant and delicious. For those who feel Hamtramck is ""too dangerous,"" stay in the burbs! Pros: quality, quantity, party atmosphere Cons: smoking, small more

Dill pickle soup!!! 10/29/2005

The BEST zupa ogorkowa (Dill pickle soup!) Sounds gross, but TRY IT!!! This place has a warm and cozy atmosphere with dim lighting and string lighting throughout the place. Has POLISH BEER <~~~ enough said! Pros: Good food, Romantic, Inexpensive Cons: Crowded more

Loved it 9/19/2005

After seeing the reviews here we decided to try out this place. It was on a Monday evening so the PVC was not crowded at all but as we were leaving it was sure filling up. We had such a great time! The waitress was friendly and the food was wonderful. If you have not been here make an evening out of it. Pros: Food, Staff Cons: Neighborhood more

Polish Restataurants in Hamtramck 9/9/2005

The only experience that I'd previously had with German - Polish food is through the Frankenmuth experience. At the Polish Village Cafe, my guest and I were thrilled by the 'feel good' food that was served us. Not having been very familiar with the cuisine, I can honestly say that I was afraid to try anything new. Now, after three years of stopping in, I would recommend ANY of their dishes to everyone I know. It, to me, is worth going off of my regular diet to have a wonderful dinner out here. more

If you have never been here.....TRY IT.... The food is fantasic. Forget reservations.....just wait in line, like the rest of us. This is true ethnic food, at its best. Pros: small rathskeller, parking, fabulous food Cons: wait more

I sell beer to the bars around Detroit. This is my favorite account. Just good honest food and great beer!! It just a wonderful place run by wonderful people. A true gem in Hamtramck. Pros: Cheap, Good, Fun more

Fantastic 7/6/2003

There was a two man band, a fantastic waitress, wonderful ambiance, this place is magical. And the neighborhood is not dangerous, having lived in Hamtramck for a large portion of my life, I can freely say that it's almost crime free. more

Almost like going home 3/20/2003

Reminiscent of my mother's cooking, this is Polish food at its best. Mom's is the only other place where I can get such high quality comfort food for less. The only suggestion I would make for improvement is that, considering the size of the restaurant, smoking should not be allowed. Pros: Food, Cost, Service Cons: Smoking more

Best of the best 2/7/2003

Simple, Polish, great value, great food but it's not posh. Polish soul food. Pros: value, good food Cons: Should be CCW more

Best in Michigan 2/7/2003

The Polish Village Cafe has been our favorite for more years than I want to mention. I live out west now and there is nothing around here that comes close to the tasty, authentic food served in Hamtramck at the Polish Village Cafe. I vote it the best in the land. Pros: great food, great prices, great parking Cons: too small more

Great Food and Polich Women! 1/10/2003

Hello,,, I think that the Polish Villiage Cafe is the best place to eat in town.. And not to mention the service is great and all the waitresses look like models, very beutiful and the place is very clean!!! Pros: Service, Food, Waitresses :o) Cons: kind of run down area more

A favorite 12/3/2002

I always patronize when not crowded ie. when they open or between lunch and dinner. They open at ll am and there is a line out the door by noon. If you arrive when it is crowded, the service and food is still good, but it takes much longer. Also, difficult to get seating for large groups. more

Best this side of Poland 11/21/2002

Polish village cafe is the best polish ""cafe"" in town. I have been going there for almost 15 years now. The dill pickle soup, Warsaw chicken, and city chicken is to die for, but everything is great. This is the place i go almost every year for my b-day dinner. If u have not tried authentic polish food, get down to PVC and enjoy, and you will enjoy because it won't brake your budget!!! ENJOY!!! more

The BEST Polish 11/6/2002
