Several years ago a repair shop in Downtown Sac was recommended by a coworker's husband, who used to do a lot of auto work himself and who knows an honest shop when he sees one. We used that shop to diagnose a strange starting problem--it took them a while, but they fixed it. Last year that mechanic retired and closed the shop. He turned over all his warranty work to Polar Bear; this seemed like a pretty good endorsement to me, so a few weeks ago I called Polar Bear to schedule some repairs. They replaced the front drive axles/CV joints on my Geo Metro. The next day, though, one of the CV joints failed. So it was back to the shop. They replaced the bad part ASAP, and to compensate me for my inconvenience, they did some other work on the car for no charge.\r
Kevin and Art seem very knowledgeable. Art has worked in auto repair for many years and can discuss all aspects of auto repair in detail. Kevin seems to put a lot of stock in his crew; he says that he thinks his A/C guys are among the best in the trade. Polar Bear probably isn't the cheapest shop around, but it's right off I-80 and you can get an appointment fairly quickly (this will change as the days get hotter), and my impression is that this is an honest shop--something motorists across the globe consider an asset.\r
A few reviewers seem to have encountered rude staff at PB, but I have had no such encounter. To the contrary, Kevin is very attentive, cooperative and accommodating. He hasn't even commented on my bad haircut. Now *that's* polite!
Pros: Location, Full-Service Shop
