I LOVE BREAKFAST 2/23/2011

Me and breakfast go way back. So when I go to a place like plums and find out they actually know how to make a good breakfast, I get all warm and fuzzy inside. Not only does this place make good food, but it caters to my alcoholic tendencies by offering momosas, which come with a free coffee. Yes, they're brilliant.\r \r I started out with a momosa -- great way to start any day -- and a cup of OK coffee, nothing special. I then moved on to a bowl of their banana brulee oatmeal. This was perfect considering its oatmeal and I don't want it to be overbearingly sweet. I then had the coconut french toast, which was the best french toast I have ever had in my life. I dream about this french toast. It was love at first sight and our relationship is still blossoming to this day.\r \r Service was decent, nothing special.\r \r Come to this place for a great breakfast. more

Great OC breakfast 3/20/2010

Whenever a friend is here to visit, we bring them to Plums. The breakfast is great, good selection, friendly staff. Get there early on weekends as it gets very busy. A good breakfast place for when you are in the area. Pros: Great food, nice clean place Cons: Sometimes a long wait more

Great place for good breakfast 10/19/2009

Plums in one of my fav's for breakfast. The food is great! There are so many unique choices to choose from. It's a little expensive but worth it. You get the amount of food for your money. more

Yummy Breakfast 3/22/2009

I went here for breakfast and it was so good. I go t the rasberry pancakes and they were the most amazing thing ever! My friends got the salmon hash and they were raving about how good that was (except for the bones in their fish). Only bad thing was it was a little expensive ($3 for a soda). I recommend this place. Pros: nice atmosphere, good food Cons: pricey, waiting for a table, bones in the fish more

Very Classy and clean 12/12/2008

my friends convinced me to meet them there. i came early and was impressed by the decor straight away. Service and food were good. I only came to hear later from people at work that this place was well known , and i found out my parents had even gone there. I will definetely be back Pros: Food was excellent Cons: Cant really think of one honestly more

Best Breakfast in town! 4/3/2008

If you are ever in Costa Mesa you have to visit Plums cafe. I would recommend the eggs benedict or the steak and eggs. You also have to try the bacon and sausage some of the best I have ever had. Pros: Food Cons: Expensive for Breakfast more

My Favorite Breakfast Place 5/9/2007

I love going to Plum's. I have to get the Smoked Salmon Hash everytime I go, sometimes a bloody mary, sometimes a latte, depending on how I feel. Plum's isn't the cheapest place to have breakfast, but it is the best. If you want to spend less than $10, reconsider and check out Del Taco's Morning Menu. For a party of two the bill usually comes out to be $35, not including tip. The service has always been quick and I have never had any complaints. I do take into consideration that they are always packed, especially on the weekends, so I know my food isn't going to come out 10 minutes after I have ordered it. Truly one of my favorites in Orange County, always a treat. Pros: Food, service, usually quick seating Cons: gets very busy, more

great place for breakfast but expensive! 4/2/2007

I had one of my best breakfast since I am here in CA. The Spinach, tomatoes and feta omelette was perfect. Usually I do not think feta is the best cheese for omelette because I like melt cheese but this time he feta was exquisitely soft and warm. The little red and yellow tomatoes linked perfectly with the rest and the thaste of the greek olives was genuines and authentics. I appreciated also the Plums potatoes.\r The refill of the coffee was awful instead. It tasted as burned and I could not drink it.\r The waiting time to be seated was not as long as it was the waiting for receiving the food. In that sense the service was really bad. A part from the service and the bill (too expensive!!) I really recommend this spot. \r I didn't eat the Dutch pancake but I saw it and I gonna have it next time for sure! more

Try a Dutch Baby 3/9/2007

It may take slightly longer but a traditional Dutch Baby is something not to miss out on at Plums. This pastry pancake is larger than the plate it comes on, but a treat you?re unlikely to find anywhere else. Inspired by flavors of the Pacific Northwest, their coconut French toast is also a must when had with an oversized mug of Seattle?s Best Coffee. Pros: They also do catering for business or residental events Cons: Its a popular weekend spot more

Best Eggs Benedict & Apple Sausages! 3/2/2007

Plums has the best eggs benedict, with their chipotle hollandaise, and their apple ketchup to go with their breakfast potatotes. Another recommendation is their creme brulee oatmeal- it is like eating dessert. I always get a side of their apple sausages and split that with my husband, and we always order the eggs benedict. I cannot comment on any other dish, as I always promise myself that I would get soemthing else, but cannot bring myself to forego the usual. The long wait on the weekends are worth it! TIP: Do not sit indoors- it is stuffy and crowded. Always eat in their outdoor patio- the beautiful morning sun, a cup of hot tea and a steaming egg breakfast cannot be beat! Pros: Best breakfast, similar to SF's haute dining, without the high prices Cons: Long wait for weekend breakfasts & crowded indoor dining area more

OK food - not what I expected - somewhat overhyped 9/6/2006

In our quest to find a breakfast spot to ""call our own"" - we decided to try Plums. Everyone we know said - ""Oh - it's incredible"". BEFORE we went there.\r \r Now everyone says - ""Oh - go there for the pumkin soup"" or ""Oh, don't order THAT!"".\r \r Unfortunately, we didn't see the Editorial Profile's mention of the french toast. They were dead on - it's NOT good. Then again - nor was the overpriced mound of ""alderwood smoked salmon hash"". In reality - a bunch of severly undercooked potatoes, peppers and onions, covered by a package of smoked salmon and some eggs with hollidaise sauce. You'd think that would be incredible. Think again.\r \r My suggestion - go for lunch in November and have the pumpkin soup. EVERYONE seems to agree on it. Pros: Good coffee Cons: Not a good value more

Use to be my favorite 8/31/2006

what has happened to Plums!?!?! I use to go to brunch here every Sunday and would come for lunch all the time.. with family, friends and clients. I would still say the menu is above average.. but the food has gone down in quality. My eggs are runny now.. i only get one piece of toast now, you have to beg for ketchup, and my boyfriend ordered a the turkey avocado sandwich that came with no avocado! They use to have endless champagne brunch on the weekends for an added $5.. they took that away and limited it to 4.. now it is 1 mimosa for the discounted price of $5.. like that is a deal? I have basically stopped going here except is someone else wants to go.... the only positive thing now is that there is no longer an hour wait on weekends more

best brunch, best breakfast 8/25/2006

It's so yummy that I drive 40 miles to Plums Cafe almost every Sunday for brunch. I have had almost everything on the menu but my absolute favorite would have to be the lemon meringue waffles; although everything is scrumptious! The only thing is the 45 minute wait if you get there after 10 am. If you can get up and there before 9 am then you can get seated right away. Definitely worth the drive and the wait! Cons: long wait more

Dutch Baby - Gigantic Yorkshire Pudding 8/8/2006

I have only been here once, but I will definitely be going back. I got the Dutch Baby, which turned out to be well worth the 20 minute wait. It is basically a giant Yorkshire Pudding, if you know what that is (a pancake that is cooked with a grease dropping in the middle so the sides rise into a bowl shape) but lemon curd is used in the middle instead of the Yorkshire Pudding's traditional fat or butter. It is served with powdered sugar, fresh lemon, and both are excellent. It is somewhat embarassing when it comes to your table, because it is HUGE, but it was so good that I ate it all. Service was also great. Our waiter was very friendly and chatty, and even let us bring the Diedrich coffee's we had just gotten in to our table. If weird shaped pancakes arent your thing, dont fret. Everything (especially the omlets) looks terrific, and everyone I know who has ever been to Plum's has rave reviews. Keep in mind that this is no IHOP though, and breakfast can easily be $10-$15/ person. Pros: Great service, Good food, The infamous Dutch Baby Cons: Not enough seating for its popularity--but well worth the wait, if there is one. more
