Editorial review from Citysearch 3/18/2014

Wow! This place should be ashamed and utterly embarrassed. I took my family out to dinner to celebrate my daughters birthday. We all ordered the Prime Rib special, mashed potato's, salad, 2 appetizer's. Both appetizer's had potato wedges with cheese, bacon, ect. One was burnt the other was fine. 5 minutes into our appetizer's all of our meals came rolling out of the kitchen. Talk about fast food. I took a bit out of the mashed potato's and realized 1) they had no salt and was very bland 2) these weren't fresh or even boxed potato's, but rather canned potato's. My dizzy blonde waitress came to the table to see if everything was fine. When I asked if these were canned potato's she laughed and said oh no those aren't canned potato's. I asked her to bring the chef out. Yeah well the chef didn't have the guts to come out of the kitchen to discuss with me about them canned potato's. Maybe he was embarrassed. Instead another server came out to discuss with me about these potato's. What bother's me is both these servers acted as if this was no big deal and stated that nobody else complained about the potato's. The manager didn't even bother to approach my table. When I lay out $200 for a family meal I expect at least boxed potato's or real mashed potato's. Canned potato's belong in stews not on my plate whipped up into mashed potato's. I called Dean the owner and let him know about himself. This owner knows exactly how he's running his establishment and I really didn't need to go there with him. Dean offered me a gift card. Really! I told Dean he's lost his mind if he thinks I'm taking my family back up into his establishment. When an establishment continually lies about what they served I'm not interested in any more food because now I have trust issues. I asked Dean if he was willing to kick back at least half of the money I paid. Of course he said no. I wasn't surprised cause I expected no. Next time I will go to GFS and purchase prime rib for $60 and a bag of potato's, salad mix, and drinks and cook it myself. It'll be a long time before I take my family out to dine again. more

dont recommend find another place 11/15/2012

I do not recommend. Food is awful. Way overpriced. And the owner Dean is the rudest person alive. They cheat on the restaurant.co.coupons. Made me spend 58.00 when the coupon clearly states spend 50.00 to use coupon. Find another place if you want to enjoy your night out. Maybe Gordon Ramsey can give them a few tips. McDonalds puts them to shame. more

Terrible service, food was crap 3/24/2011

Title says it all. We were not promptly greeted. When they asked how many people in our party I started to say ""two"" but the waitress sat us before I could finish. I had to ask 3 different waitresses for refills because our fat waitress was too busy flirting with the bartender to wait on us. When it was finally time to go she asked how everything was and I told her she looks like she eats more than she works with that fat ass. She was rude to us from that point on, but oh well. Also I would sooner eat a piece of sh it on a plate than that crappy steak. Screw this place more

Prime Rib was very good. The service was poor. 4/1/2009

The Prime Rib was great. The strip steak was too fatty. The waitress was really bad. She was more concerned about getting off work early then taking care of her customers. On a scale of 1 to 10 I'd give this place a 5 Pros: Public parking lot next to the restaurant Cons: Feed the meter! You will get a ticket. more

Way better Steak places elsewhere - even for Pittsburgh 12/14/2008

This place is a mockery of a Steakhouse. I've been to plenty of places for steak and none of them register as bad as this one. I seriously spent $70 on appetizers, glass of wine, NY strip, and filet mignon. This place should be embarrassed to call themselves a ""steak house"". I've had much better steak at Outback. I'm not recommending Outback either. I'd try Pittsburgh Rare or some other restaurant featuring steak. The steak was bland, dry, and tough. The wine was lousy and so were the salads that came with it. Plain and simple the food sucked. People that rate this place high, obviously have never had a good steak. I make better steaks at home. Bottom line this place is vastly overrated, not worth the money, and I will never return. Pros: N/A Cons: Poor food quality, overpriced for lousy food more

owner is awful, steak was spoiled 12/2/2008

went there for my mother's birthday, she's in from out of town and we wanted something nice. three of four dishes were good, one was completely spoiled and bad-smelling steak. they were also out of the bottle of wine we wanted to order. maybe they're cutting back to save money, but there's no excuse for serving perished steak. it was so bad my dad wouldn't take another or even look at steak after tasting it. then they charged him for his replacement pasta and the owner yelled at the wait staff in the back about how he wouldn't apologize because he didn't do anything wrong. the waitress was very nice, but we will never go back after seeing how awful the owner is. any other restaurant manager, and especially owner, would have at least not blamed the spoiled steak on the person it was served to. Pros: good pasta, nice waitress Cons: spoiled meat and yelling owner more

What a Letdown! 11/14/2008

My boss was in town and I made reservations for dinner at the Pittsburgh Steak Company. The first trick was to find parking within a 1 or 2 mile walk of the restaurant - not really their fault though, that's the Southside! When we walked into the restaurant, there were only 3 tables in use, yet they crammed us back into some cubby hole with practically no light. Once the 4 of us ordered our meals - all various steak dishes - and they arrived, we knew why there wasn't any light. The presentation was pitiful and the steaks were absolutely the worst that any of us had ever eaten. The meat was tough and over cooked. Fortunately for me, my boss is a very forgiving sort and he didn't blame me for the disaster. Still, I was extremely embarrassed and will never go there again, nor recommend it to anyone that I want to remain friendly with. Pros: None, really. Cons: The food, the service, and the seating we were put into. more

Service not for me 11/9/2008

As a waitress, I can understand how stressful a restaurant atmosphere can get sometimes. But I was completely disappointed when my fiance, his parents and myself went out and were disregarded by the manager himself upon entering the restaurant. I can't even write a review on the food, because we promptly left and went to a smaller, less fancy restaurant where the service was amazing, and surprisingly so was the food! Pros: Location to where we live Cons: Service. more

Best service and food! 2/12/2008

My boyfriend and I went here for our anniversary and have never been to the South Side restaurants. The service was excellent, food was incredible (steak and stuffed shrimp), staff was very polite and prompt, not overly crowded. Mixed drinks were perfect and highly recommend this to any and everyone! Pros: food more

great night out 12/30/2007

My boyfriend and I went there for dinner and I was very surprised by our terrific night. Although I have seen some bad reviews on this site we decided to try it anyways. We enjoyed ourselves greatly, the service was great and the food was even better. It was not as expensive as we expected and we can't wait to go back. Thanks everyone who made our night great. Pros: great food and service Cons: parking on weekends more

Better double check reservations! 11/11/2006

We scheduled our company party here, we called ahead and reserved tables for the entire company. When we got there they said noone must had written down the reservations. So we had to eat upstairs, no bartender, no heat and terrible steaks. I sent my steak back four times and it still wasn't cooked right. My advice is to go somewhere that specializes in company affairs. Other complaints were grissle, undercooked, slow, very slow service. We never experienced the dark wood and dim lights. It was the worst company dinner we ever planned and will never go back! Pros: They were open Cons: They forgot our reservations more

Good Food and Good Service 10/19/2006

My husband and I recently ate the Pittsburgh Steak Co. Our food was delicious. The steaks were excellent and the service was good also. They had a pretty good selection of homemade desserts as well. We would definitely recommend this restaurant. more

Not very good 11/21/2005

My wife and I were looking to celebrate our anniversary and her passing her NBCT's and selected the Pittsburgh Steak Company. We chose this place as we both enjoy a good steak dinner and we wanted to have some drinks on Carson St afterwards. Well, we were disappointed. The french onion soup was very bland, the salad was plain and the steaks were OK at best. Nothing had that 'wow' factor and we felt that the value for the price just wasn't there. Pros: Not crowded Cons: Bland Food more

One of the best kept secrets in the 'burgh! 3/9/2005

The Pittsburgh Steak Company has long been present on Carson Street in South Side, but it surprises me how many Pittsburger's have never enjoyed the outstanding menu there. We have been treating ourselves to special dinners at the Pittsburgh Steak Company for well over 10 years and have never been unhappy with the food or the service there. Keep the over-priced ""chain"" restaurants, I'll happily meet you at the Pittsburgh Steak Company for the best meal you've ever had! more

nice quick dinner 9/20/2004

We ate here on a friday night at 6. We thought we would have a long wait and to our surprise..no wait at all. We were seated immediately and the waitress was immediately there. Very polite and friendly. The Steak salad was HUGE now I know why it says it's $1.50 to share. My husband got the steak. Said it was good. Not the best he had but still good. Beautiful wood and brick interior. NOT for kids and if you happen to have a ""steal a meal"" from the local stations, you have to spend more than the whole amount (which we didn't know and only spent $35 of $ 50) It's a little pricey.. steaks were from 22.95 and up but it's a nice place for couples to have a ""romantic"" evening and the service was wonderful. We were in and out in just under an hour. Pros: service, portions, wait more

Monday Prime Rib is best! 6/18/2003

This is a great place for a single diner. The bar is great. And at the bar you will get complimentary Chips. The chips alone are worth the trip. Very crisp and seasoned like no where else. What a place to watch Monday Night Football. The prime rib is an ""All you can Eat"" feature. The salads and rolls are unusually good. Steak of course is the main feature. You won't be disappointed. The ""Southside"" has numerous restaurants, this is certainly one worth your patronage. Pros: Chips at the bar, Monday Prime Rib, Steaks, of course Cons: Parking, Somewhat pricy more

Over-rated 12/19/2002

My wife and I dine out very frequently, and visit many resturant locations in the Pittsburgh/ Mon Valley area's. We had visited the Pittsburgh Steak Company in recent past, and the atmosphere was just too busy, uncomfortable for our liking. The steak's that were served to us didn't stand out in quality/ flavor compared to other steak houses/ resturants, and had an above average amount of fat in them. They also weren't prepared as requested, and the meat was actually tough, rather than tender. The overall cost of the meal was pricey, considering the quality of steak served. Compared to other places that we have visited, we definately wouldn't recommend the Pittsburgh Steak Company to friends who would expect a comfortable dining atmosphere, along with a quality steak. Cons: Crowded, Expensive, Steak/ food just bare more

Terrible Service 12/4/2002

The Prime rib was all fat and cold, and the french fries that came with the meal were cold and still crunchy. I would never eat at this establishment again. Cons: cold food, overpriced drinks, no room to move more

Don't forget the zucchini!! 7/22/2002

Not only does this place have great steaks, but the fried zucchini is amazing. I have never had a bad meal there. The service is great and the food is not too outrageously priced. more

  • In Short
Meat is the order of business here, though the fried zucchini appetizer is a big seller. Popular choices include a juicy 24-ounce porterhouse and the huge charbroiled steak...
