TO EACH HIS OWN 11/25/2009

After reading some of the other reviews of The Pink Pony in Scottsdale AZ, I felt I had to add my two cents. First of all, yes, it is a dark place, can be noisy and crowded, and is dated. No, you shouldn't go there if you want new and trendy and the not so real beautiful people. I go there because I like dark and I love to watch and listen to the older sophisticates and veteran locals, I like hearing the guy sing the ol' standards, I like the friendly staff, and love liver and onions. So for me, it's a comfort zone and an adventure. You never know who you'll meet there. \r more

Comfort Food. Not Glitz 1/25/2009

Hey, if you want great steaks, go to Ruth's Chris and spend $100 per. If you want a decent steak, good service at value, Do the Pink Pony. It is what it is and it's refreshing, to some, to find a non-chain in the middle of Yuppie-ville. Pros: Hey, lots of oldsters there Cons: Some of us fit right in more

Just say CHEESE 1/20/2007

This restaurant is staffed and patroned by seniors primarily. My fiance and I are almost 40, and with the exception of one other couple, we were the youngest people in the place. Gray hair and bald heads were seated at most tables, as was the wait staff.\r \r The singer 'Steve' has no band and plays no instrument. He has a Karoke machine and sings Dean Martin/Nat King Cole-type music, which you can barely hear over the crowd.\r \r The food is mediocre. My fiance ordered the prime rib ($30) which arrived 2 inches thick, 11 inches long and 4.5 inches wide (yes, I measured it!) \r That could have fed four people! It was the single largest piece of meat on one plate I have ever seen. Definitely what a European would expect to see an American eat for dinner.\r \r Perhaps there is some appeal to folks 60+ years old, but my fiance and I just didn't get it. The cheesy atmosphere, the mediocre food, the noise and cramped surroundings were simply not what we were expecting, especially after reading all the rave reviews posted here.\r \r I should also mention that they added 18% on to the check automatically ($12.50 in our case) and when you pay by credit card, there is a blank spot for you to write in your tip.\r \r I am sure many people that eat there don't realize they are double-tipping, leaving as much as a 30% to 40% tip to the wait staff. It's an awkward position to be in to write a 0 in the tip amount, because I feel as though doing so suggests the service was bad. However, an 18% tip added AUTOMATICALLY, is quite generous considering 10% is the normal, 15% if the service was great and 20% if the service was out of this world.\r \r Apparently there is a lot of baseball paraphernalia hanging on the walls, but it was so busy and crowded (and dark inside) it made it impossible to appreciate it's significance. Cons: Too many to list here more

Unsat 1/3/2005

This was by far one of the worst restaurants I have ever been into. As soon as I entered the building, I smelled a nasty air of dirty water buckets and comet. Our table had the sticky feel of old varnish (it wasn't dirty, it needs to be refinished!). I ordered chili and they brought out a bowl of a disgusting pile of meat. And that was about it. Gray meat. Tasted horrible. I told the manager how I felt, and left. On a positive note, it didn't cost me a dime! Overall...I will never step back into that dump. I can't believe this place is in Scottsdale! more

I have had dinner here several times and it is always outstanding. The Prime Rib is a great portion for lunch or dinner and the Rueben is the same. Definately worth frequenting. Pros: Welcoming Atmosphere, Great Service, Good Portions more

Great Steaks 5/21/2002

I love this place. I'm not from Phoenix, but virtually every time I visit, my relatives all get together at the Pink Pony. Steaks are great, service is fantastic and when you show up with your grandmother for a 5:00pm reservation (!!!) and you are a half hour early, they still seat you and make sure your every request is taken care of promptly. Pretty basic menu, and not cheap, but still a great place for a special occassion or a simple dinner with friends. more
