Best

I had to comment here because this is one of our favorite restaurants. First of all, the ambience is fantastic. It feels like you are walking into a restaurant in Venice, Italy (w...

A charming, snug and intimate place. So snug that we were party to our neighboring table receiving a lengthy harrangue regarding management's current battle with Zagat. At the ...

Not GOOD! 9/28/2006

My wife is Italian and she won't ever return to this Over-Hyped Average Food place! Pros: cozy Cons: horrible parking w/homeless people everywhere! more

Love this place... 6/28/2006

can't stay away from Piccolo's pastas! For a superior authentic dining experience in a very romantic spot, you cannot beat Piccolo. more

Redifining Italian Cuisine 4/11/2006

Thanks to my former colleague who works as a chef here, I had the pleasure of savoring their ""extravaganza"" meal. It started with an appetizer of burrata cheese atop caramelized radicchio, drizzled with aged balsamic. I had nothing like it before; it was a nice change from the predictable caprese. Then came the pastas- ravioli filled with figs and potatoes in brown butter sage sauce are so heavenly and luscious no frilly adjectives would do them justice. Then the tagliatelli with a generous fluttering of black truffles, shaved tableside by Alberto, the amiable, incredibly talented executive chef. If that weren't satisfying enough, the meal progressed with a tender-crisp roasted quail, and ended on a perfect note with three little profiteroles. Everything was so delicious and perfect! I told my friend I could die happy that night, and that the meal will forever change the way I think about Italian food. more

Molto Bene 3/23/2006

The food here is phenomenal - try the potato and fig ravioli, you won't be dissapointed. The place is SUPER small though, so definitely get there early. Parking is difficult also - there is a lot down the alleyway at Sunset for $7 or park east of Pacific. Overall; definitely a great italian place with a great selection. more

By far the best 3/1/2006

This is by far the best Italian restaurant in LA. I have eaten there 3 times and every time the food has been exceptional. The owners are always around and happy to talk with you. The chef is excellent and you can tell he really cares if you like his food. I would eat there every day if I could. Pros: Food, Atmosphere, Value more

eh...gone down hill 11/8/2005

something happened, maybe too crowded, the delicate meats are now fatty and tough... Pros: FOOD, Service, Wine List Cons: Parking more

A neighborhood gem 10/15/2005

I live just blocks from this little restaurant and go quite often. In fact, my boyfriend and I always have to convince ourselves to try a new restaurant because this place is so consistently good and innovative with their dishes. As they don't take reservations, there is often an outside wait without seating. But then again, you're a half block from the beach so you can just walk a few steps and enjoy the view. more

Real Italian 9/26/2005

I dont know why I'm telling you people this. Because of the limited seating capacity I will never get a table now. I lived in Italy for some time and have come to know and respect quality Italian food. I'm not going to ramble on about the menu, but it is brilliant and well-managed. Allow the Chef Antonio to prepare your menu for the evening, and sit back and take it in. more

SOOOOO NOT WORTH ALL THE HYPE. 9/23/2005

My boyfriend and I tried this after hearing and reading rave reviews. we were sorely disappointed....actually we were quite bitter because frankly this place was awful. the hearts of palm salad was mediocre at best (not worth the $$), the clam linguine was obscenely salty and dry, and the jon dory fish was nothing to write home about. nothing here impressed usin the least. taco bell would've satisfied us more than this place. Not to mention the super cramped seating....i'd pass on this one. save your taste buds and your money. more

Best Italian food in town 8/10/2005

This is a treat -- a 1-year-old tiny, cozy neighborhood Italian. The location is great -- steps from the ocean. And the food is fantastic (e.g., pasta that melts in your mouth). The only downside is that they don't take reservations, so best to get there before 7pm. more

less than anticipated 8/8/2005

I took two friends there for dinner one night, and with the exception of the dish I ordered, the pappardelle with wild boar sauce, we thought the food was just 'okay' compared to a very few select restaurants here in Los Angeles. I won't mention them here, but for the prices Piccolo charges, you can do far better in Santa Monica. There were few offerings in the dessert category, and the one we selected wasn't a disappointment, just nothing very special. I also think their corkage fee is excessive. more

As good as food gets! 4/23/2005

Hello, I was lucky enough to trust the citysearch ratings and I tried Ristorante Piccolo. I have never been to a restaurant as good. The Potato Fig Tortelli, well, it just defies description. My mom had the fish of the day, a black sea bass, and it owned the table! I ate there 2 nights and all the food was hot, fresh, beautiful and tasty. Stefano is a gracious host and Toni is a culinary genius. If you are anywhere near Venice and love fresh, authentic Northern Italian food, you owe it to yourself to try Ristorante Piccolo. The ricotta pie dessert, YUM! Pros: Impeccable Food., Couteous Service. Cons: Not in San Francisco! more

Truly authentic Italian Cuisine 3/4/2005

Antonio & Stefano are the 2 owners of the most wonderful little gem & we live soooooooooo close Yeah! They have created such a fantastic experience, is really what it is! Their restaurant is quaint and clean and warm and the food that comes from chef Antonio makes you happy to have a mouth and stomach, they are superb on so many levels. YOU MUST TRY THE fig & Potato tortellini, which is not really a tortellini its some other TRUE italian pasta name i cant say and chef antonio hand makes all his pastas We are so excited because they are opening up after some remodeling and we have been desperately waiting for 2 months for OUR FIX, YOU so wont be disappointed Pros: great great food, really nice ambience, nice people more

Simply Fantastico! 8/29/2004

Absolutely amazing experience! The best Italian food I've had in LA - it's like taking a trip to Italy. Ask for a table closer to the open kitchen - watching Tony (chef) cook is a whole experience of its own. Every plate coming back is empty - he truly does a fantastic job at cooking!!!! more

yummy italian food! 7/21/2004

it was my bf & my 1st time trying this tiny restaurant at Venice Beach, and it was great. the only thing was the cold breeze while we were sitting outside for our dinner, and our dishes got cold real quick. keep in mind to sit inside when u go, so u can fully enjoy the yummy dishes this restaurant has to offer. one of the most inspiring dish we tried last night was our dessert, the italian rocotta cheese cake. u'll know what i mean when i say it's different, but in a good way. Pros: food, service Cons: , restaurant too small more
