Editorial review from Citysearch 6/12/2013

There are many splash pads around the zoo, which is really great for the little ones on really hot days. The giraffe encounter is a lot better than most places, as the lines are a lot shorter, they are more patient and will even take pictures for you so the whole group can be in them. The have the kids feeding lettuce while the adults get a pellet. After, you can ask questions and they tell you all kinds of interesting information about the giraffes.\r more

Phoenix Zoo 4/25/2011

Over spring break this year, my family and I went to the Phoenix Zoo. It took about 20 minutes of circling the parking lot before we could park. When we got to the entrance, there was a line so long it looked as if the entire valley had come. With our membership however we were luckily able to skip the whole line. Inside the zoo didn’t seem to busy, either because it’s a big zoo, or maybe because everyone was still in line. One of the exhibits I enjoy most is the Grevy Zebra exhibit. Share an enclosure with the Marabou Storks. Which I think is excellent because having multiple species of animals in the same exhibit can make it less as if it’s a zoo and more as if it’s the real deal, especially if the two types of animals naturally live in the same areas in the wild as in this case. With our membership we go to the Phoenix Zoo at least twice a month. Generally the Zebras are just lying around or grazing, not doing much. When we walked up to their enclosure this time however, the two young foals they had were prancing and running around with tons of energy. I had never seen them this energetic. We enjoyed the rest of our trip and didn’t run into any major problems there. Over all I would recommend the Phoenix Zoo as a great place to go if you have kids, even older kids enjoy it. It’s an awesome place to take them to get all their extra energy out and have them learning about the animals while they do! I wouldn’t recommend the Phoenix Zoo to you if you are going to see the animals or for photography because the animals are most likely just hiding in the cool shade at the back of their enclosures. For photography I suggest you go to the Wildlife World Zoo in Litchfield Park, AZ. more

This is a ""Zoo"" ???? 2/19/2008

Ok, clearly the writers of previous reviews are desperately hungry for entertainment. I just went through this ""zoo"" yesterday, and I found it nothing more than a bunch of displays with 1 or less animals in them. The animals always huddled towards the back of the areas making them completely unviewable. I guess it was a zoo of Rocks n Sticks.\r Furthermore, the prices for food (this isn't a suprise) is not just a ripoff, it's nothing short of thievery! No one item of food was worth what they wanted.\r Plain and simple - go find somewhere else to entertain yourself... Pros: Water fountains were free... Cons: Everything other than the free water fountains.... more

Great family fun!!!! 6/11/2007

It was fun before you walk the entire thing though (its huge) you might want to rent one of their family cycles they hold the entire family. You'll be able to peddle through the whole thing. Take the kids in swimsuits they have a fun water area to keep cool!\r \r Def. Worth the trip! Pros: kids water area, family bicycles, its huge Cons: you'll need an entire day if your walking it. more

Wonderful Zoo 4/21/2003

Great zoo! Great attractions! Beautiful location!!! There is very little I would want changed - except to maybe have more marine exhibits. more

Wasted money 12/23/2002

The worst zoo I've ever seen....poor conditions, tiny cages for wildcats, poor layout. The most enjoyable part was the bridge views upon entering. Save your admission fee and take in the views of the large fish, turtles, and birds around the entrance bridge. more

FUN FUN FUN 12/13/2002

WHAT A BETTER PLAYS TO HAVE TONS OF FUN WITH YOUR KIDS AND KNOW WHEN YOU GO HOME THEY WILL BE PASSED OUT!!!!!! more

Zoo-a-Rama 10/19/2002

During the cooler months is the perfect time to visit the Phoenix Zoo. With the weather becoming nicer, the animals are more active and viewing time is extended. All ages will love the variety of animals and activities to do at the zoo. Currently ""Boo at the Zoo"" is the featured special. After Halloween, the annual Zoo Lights will be taking off. This event is NOT to be missed. If you have never seen it put it on your MUST see this year. While the Phoenix Zoo may not be as big as San Diego's or others it is well maintained and has sufficient animals, trails and activities to keep a family busy on a full day outing. more

Kind of a dull zoo... 10/3/2002

While the Zoo is pretty good and an excellent value if you get a membership, it gets very, very hot in the summer months, and the variety of animals isn't that great. They should have more indoor exhibits, considering the heat. The food is overpriced and not very good. Zoo Lights is GREAT, but bring back the rope lights on the pathways!! Pros: Zoo Lights, Memberships Cons: Too few animals, Food is yucky more

""Zoo"" place 9/6/2002

Get the membership and save $1M if you have kids... the zoo is up to date, the animals aren't caged and the exercise will do you good. more

My daughter thought that it ws so much fun to go to the zoo. She loved to mile the fake cow!!! The childrens petting zoo and the play ground are great. I loved being here as well it kinda takes you away from everything for the day. The sprinklers in the middle of the zoo are a great way for the kdis to cool off after all the walking. I can't wait to go back!!! Pros: good parking, easy to follow map Cons: bathrooms far an few, no military discount more

Lions and tigers and bears! Oh my! 8/6/2002

My kids and I love how the exhibits are designed for ultimate viewing of the animals. Going to the zoo is a great way to spend the day. And if you've never tried Zoo Lights at Christmas, I highly recommend it. It's a real treat! Pros: family friendly, great exhibits, nice gift shop Cons: too hot in the summer more

It is a great place for kids 11 and under. For us older folks, be sure to check out the giraffes first, all the other animals sleep, probably because it is so warm out. more
