Great food! 8/15/2006

The entrees there are extremely unique. They are not plates that you would expect in every other American restaurant. There are also exquisite names for most of the dishes, such as ""Dancing Shrimp."" I've been there 5 times with my boyfriend now and it has became ""our"" restaurant. Despite my love for this Philip Marie, the food is falling slightly below my initial impression of it. Service quality depends on the waiter. There was also a recent incident in which my boyfriend's mother got a deep cut on her finger while closing the bathroom door. Overall, Philip Marie is a great place for a nice dinner. I will definitely go back for a 6th time, but I will stay away from the bathroom and any cranky waiters. Pros: FOOD! Cons: may be difficult to find more

Amazing Date Destination 7/27/2006

Last night I went on a date at Philip Marie. Can I say it was fantastic. The food was possibly the best that we have ever ate. We started with an amazing warm mozzarella salad(to die for). We then shared the Lobster spring roll (the freshest that I have ever had). For our entrees we had a most tender wild boar and the most melt in your mouth lamb shank. The server that we had was so professional. He knew exactly what wines to pair with each course. I highly recommend this establishment to anyone who has never been. I also must say to make a reservation because the place does fill up. My sincere compliments to the chef and staff for a wonderful evening. Pros: The food, the service, the ambiance Cons: nothing that I can think of. more

Just when we thought there was nothing better, Philip Marie outdid itself. We love the Tuesday Clambake and weekend brunchs. We brought friends to brag about our find, only to be wowed again. The chef created specials that blew us away. We plan on attending their next wine tasting dinner in October. The last one was amazing! Pros: everything you could want in a great dining experience more

American not French 7/15/2006

Don't get confused by the name. It is not a French restaurant. The cuisine is based on basic, familiar American ingredients. Pros: location more

Best Place to Get Engaged 7/14/2006

What a special place. We got engaged here and it was amazing. Everything was top notch; the food, service, atmosphere and hospitality. We look forward to returning soon as husband and wife and maybe even beforehand. Pros: Great food, beautiful atmosphere, amazing service more

Never Less Than Wonderful 7/9/2006

Have been back to PM many times, both in the main room and the private wine cellar for special occasions. The food is always wonderful, inventive, different (wild boar anyone?) and delicious. The service never fails, from the moment you step in, until your completely sated departure. The space is beautiful, romantic, welcoming. I've turned on countless friends to PM and all have had the same experiences. Toques off to John Greco, Herb Westphalen & staff. Pros: Inventive, delicious food, beautiful space (Check out intimate wine cellar) more

Charming bistro with incredible food and service 7/7/2006

We are clowns in Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and after a nap on Thanksgiving Day, we always have our holiday dinner at Phillip Marie's. This is one restaurant where the holiday meals are as good as other days. You even get a turkey dinner to take home regardless of what you order! The presentation, food, and friendly yet professional service are always excellent and the restaurant charming. Delightful in the warm weather when you can eat outside and do some great people watching while you enjoy delicious meals. A great find in a great neighborhood. Pros: Excellent knowlewdgeable staff, great menu choice Cons: tables are a bit close more

Best place for a romantic evening! 7/7/2006

My husband brought me to Phillip Marie on our first date. Three years later we got engaged in the romantic and charming wine room where the service is outstanding and the food absolutely delicious. We even had our engagment dinner here where our entire family raved about the unique dinner choices, excellent wine, and family atmosphere. Our favorites are the Wild Boar and Fried Green tomatos! more

Unbelievable Wine cellar dining for 2 7/6/2006

We found PM when we purchased a Wine Cellar Dinner for Two that John had donated to a Cancer Care Auction. After having a couple of great lunches and a fabulous Australian wine tasting dinner, we finally tried the private dinner in the wine cellar - WOW! Personal server, excellent food and service with matching wines. We just gave a certificate for the same kind of evening to our newly engaged daughter. We cannot wait to do it again; dozens of friends we have sent there have only raved. Pros: see our review - all great Cons: Nada more

Worth repeat visits!! 7/6/2006

We visit NYC at least twice a year and always try to have dinner at PM at least once during our visit. The service is always professional yet friendly which creates a comfortable, relaxing dining experience. I find the food to be inventive and at the same time very satisfying with an emphasis on fresh ingredients. All in all, an experience worth repeating even though we only visit a few times a year. more

Having a divine meal in the comfort of your home! 7/5/2006

Dining at Philip Marie is an experience that everyone deserves. The moment you walk in, you're embraced with an ""at home"" feeling. John, Herb and the staff really know how to make each experience unique. The food is DIVINE!!! The food coupled with the service . . . you can't go wrong . . . hey, and the price is right!!!! Cudos to John and his staff! more

fantastic ambiance, friendly customer service, very reasonable prices 7/5/2006

This place is a fantastic little gem for all to enjoy. The hosts/owners are very friendly and they instill that quality in their servers. The food is a unique mix of cajun, american, and even some french flavors. Try the singing scallops if you are lucky enough to be there on a night where they aren't sold out or out of season. There is a private dining room in the basement, where the old colonial kitchen used to be, really a very comfortable spot. The best tables are at or near the front windows, but the whole place has ""comfortable"" quality to it. I have eaten there quite a few times and have never been disappointed. Bon appetit! Pros: Ambience, value, service Cons: parking more

Casual But Exciting 7/5/2006

We dine out here frequently. We love the attentive, friendly wait staff and interesting menu. The food is delicious and the atmosphere comforting. Pros: Location and Ambience Cons: Not recomended for children under 5 more
