Philip Marie is a spectacular restaurant 2/18/2010

My family, friends and I have been coming to Philip Marie for years and it is one of our favorites. The food is unique and delicious and we have grown quite a fondness for the staff. Recently they had a Mardi Gras party (our 2nd time attending) and it was fantastic. They had an amazing band (the gotham playboys from bruce springsteens old band) and everyone was enjoying the food and having a blast. The only snag in the night was a very disrespectful couple (see roomspimps review ((classy name by the way)) )who began causing a scene about an invalid coupon when the dinner was reasonably priced as is. The disgusting guy threatened to kill the waiter if he didnt apply the coupon. Some people could use a good lesson in acting like a human being and not a couple of homeless animals. But alas they eventually left and real life resumed at this amazing, authentic west village restaurant. Love you Philip Marie and theres some good customers out there looking out for you for all your years of great service! Pros: great staff food and atmoshere Cons: Bad cheapskate psycho people who ruin all that more

Food was not very good but at least the service sucked 2/16/2010

Tonight I had the misfortune of going to Philip Marie. This was my first and last visit to this horribly crowded dump on the corner of Hudson & 11th ST. We had reservation for 9:30 PM and when we called no one informed us that there was a special Mardi Gras celebration going on and that there was a pre-fixed menu. We had purchased a special discount coupon from restaurants(dot)com and when we sat down we told our waiter this was the case. He informed us that they do not accept coupons on ?holidays? and he could no take it for our meal. We referred him back to the lack of disclosure at the time we made the reservation and decided to check with the manager. Upon his return we were informed that they would make a ?special exception? for us. Pros: Too small to offend more than 50 or 60 per night Cons: Bad food, atmosphere and especially service more

Beautiful 11/20/2009

Stopped in not knowing what to expect and was pleasantly surprised. We were seated quickly and ordered wine as it seemed to be what most people were doing. Though we don't know a whole lot about wine we knew we wanted a white zin and the waitress suggested a great one for us. The menu is very interesting and varied which is a huge plus for me because I normally get stuck ordering the same old meals. But in this case I had a hard time deciding. I had a chicken breast with brie and pesto and it was excellent. We said we would come back and were told to come for brunch so we will! Thanks Philip Marie more

Great place for any meal 11/20/2009

I have been to Philip Marie for their brunch and dinner a couple times and always enjoyed. They recently changed most of their menu and to my surprise I easily replaced my favorite meals there (though they did keep most my favorite appetizers). I had an salmon & chive burger that was delicious and my boyfriend had a cream of tomato soup and open steak sandwich. We were both very pleased. Our waitress was great and she had served us before so we had fun chatting with her. My friends and I love it @ Philip Marie and it represents the classic nyc village restaurants you read about. Hope the reviewers stop in and have the same enjoyable experiences we have had! more

Fancy for no reason 11/13/2009

Yesterday me and my husband went there because of citysearch reviews and thier menu online. When we got there, we found out that they changed the entire menu and made the prices higher. Inspite of this, we ordered mussels and salmon entree. The mussels were okay, nothing special. But the salmon turned out to be horrible, we cook it at home much better even though we are not cooks. So what are they so priced up? To look just fancy? Cons: Poor quality, high prices more

Dreadful 10/10/2009

May be the worst food I've ever had in NYC (tied with nearby Tartine). I don?t know where the rave reviews come from; perhaps there are two Philip Maries in the area and I just happened to have gone to the wrong one. Pros: Location Cons: Food, food and food more

Lovely setting and elegant food 8/27/2009

Just came home from a great meal. We were a group of eight coming together from all over the world and we were all impressed with the preparation and beautiful presentation of the food here. The service was also friendly and attentive. Can't remember when I last had such an all-around good experience. Pros: beautiful presentation more

Awesome Food! 8/7/2009

I came here for dinner with my boyfriend on a Sunday and it was their Sunday night barbeque special. My boyfriend got the catfish with mac&cheese and greens and I tried some, it was delicious. I didn't do the BBQ deal, but I did get the Mediterranean Sea Bass which was, honestly, the best meal I've had all year. Will definitely be coming back, and would like to try their brunch. more

Saturday Brunch 8/7/2009

It may be a little crowded on Saturday's, but it's brunch in NYC, so you can't really ask for a quiet atmosphere. Other than the noise it was a great brunch. The food was amazing, and good portion sizes too. The service was great, our waitress was very nice, and checked up on us the perfect amount of times. And I never had to ask for more water or mimosa's, it was just always their. I'll make it a point to come here often for brunch in the city. more

Romantic Restaurant, Great for Dates 6/26/2009

Philip Marie is a wonderful restaurant in the West Village. The food is amazing and the chefs specialties are fantastic! The service was pretty good. Great place for a Romantic evening. I know I got my money's worth and I felt like i was treated more than fair. I will definitely be back here. They also do Brunch which I think we will check out next time. Pros: Food, Service, Look and Feel more

Perfect for couples 6/18/2009

I went here with my boyfriend to enjoy a nice meal before walking around manhattan all night. The food was great, I had the artichoke stuffed chicken, and he had the special of the day: flatiron steak. Both dishes were great, and then we shared the pumpkin fritters..even more delicious. It is now are favorite place to go out for dinner whenever we are in manhattan Pros: intimate atmosphere, food more

Delicious Food & Romantic Atmosphere 6/2/2009

I brought my girlfriend here on a Brunch date and it was fantastic! They had outdoor seating and on top of the brunch being one of the best i've had in a long time it came with unlimited bloody marys. The server was funny and nice and checked on us the perfect amount of times (which is surprisingly rare). We stayed for drinks after eating and almost considered staying for their BBQ the same day (I guess it is every sun) but we had full satisfied stomachs so we will be trying that in the next couple of weeks. Thanks Philip Marie. Pros: Great dining experience all around Cons: None to write about more

Horrible! 3/11/2009

I went here for lunch today . The restaurant was not crowded yet we had the worst experience imaginable. Cons: Everything. more

Wonderful Village Restaurant 2/6/2009

I recently went to Philip Marie and found out their special of the day was a four course wine tasting. My party (a little reluctant at first not knowing how the portions would be) finally decided to do it. It was amazing! It included wild boar ravioli and a roasted leg of lamb that were absolutely delicious. And though i don't know that much about wines i loved the whole process of tasting while they describe them. The atmosphere was cozy and we all had a great time. more

Staying power 1/29/2009

I've been going to Philip Marie about six times a year for seven years, though I don't live in the neighborhood.. I love it--inside, outdoors, any time of day or year, for lunch, brundh, dinner. The menu is interesting, wine list is super, the service is always pleasant, and I love to take out of towners there for a ""real New York bistro"" experience. My favorite at lunchtime is the parsley salad with ham. What a great idea! And so delicious. more

FANTASTIC!! 1/10/2009

I have been dining in the village for many years now and Philip Marie is by far my favorite restaurant. more

Awesome Brunch! 12/5/2008

Philip Marie has an amazing brunch menu and the food is so delicious! The atmosphere is wonderful and staff is very friendly. Philip Marie was a pleasurable dining experience and we look forward to coming back! Dinner at Philip Marie will probably be our next visit, the dinner menu looks very good. I like how their specials are updated on their website too! Pros: Menu, Atmosphere, Staff, Food was Delicious more

Another GREAT brunch! 11/29/2008

Ive been back for brunch a few times and each time is just as great of an experience as the last. I prefer the Unlimited Mimosa special on Saturdays. The waitstaff is always friendly and accommodating. Never an empty glass on the table. I HIGHLY recommend this joint! more

Perfect date spot 11/25/2008

This quaint restaurant located in the lower west side is the perfect place to bring a date. I would recommend this establishment to anyone and everyone. Large, comprehensive wine list, great food and the service was awesome. Not many downsides to Philip Marie. Pros: Just about everything Cons: Nothing more
