I've had my pet for less than a month and after taking her to this vet it nearly killed her. Initially she was fine, a normal playful and happy puppy, but after one of their vaccines she became sick with a 105 fever and pain. We took her back within a few days of these symptoms and he advise that we should spend $500 for JUST TESTS. He gave her pain pills and antibiotics WHICH DIDNT HELP (waste of $69). We returned a few days later with the same issue and all he kept advising was spend more and more money. Never contacting the vaccine company or double checking his work. After countless voicemails and begging I spent $240 on just blood work and a tick test which shown that my puppy had an high WBC so he prescribe more pain pills and antibiotics WHICH STILL DIDNT HELP. At this point he was advising us TO KILL HER or give her to someone who could afford her so UNPROFESSIONAL. I even have a save voicemail from his rep who said " Honey, the doc. advice that you give the dog back to the place you got her from because you cant afford our service or if not kill her" WHAT vet. gives up when he havent done research or went out his way. Finally we went to another vet. who was nice enough to contact the vaccine company who gave us a grant to find out if it was the vaccine that got her sick or something else. Taking time out of her busy day to do research on the type of vaccine given and ask for an second opinion. Oakwood did nothing but waste my time and put in danger my dogs health. To truly care about animals a vet has to go out there way to ensure the well-being of the animal instead this money hungry poor excuse of vet made unprofessional comments and worried more about his pocket. Read the reviews on this place!!! I could understand if it was one bitter customer saying the same thing but its several people saying the same thing THIS VET IS MONEY HUNGRY. Dont be fool by the employee's healthy dogs walking around they dont care about YOUR dog just their own. AVOID AT ALL COST THERE ARE TO MANY GOOD VETS IN TOWN!!! more

I just took my dog to get a dental cleaning from Dr. Simmons. Our dog Zoe is 9 years old was getting horrible breath. I never had her teeth cleaned new I had to do something. Dr. Simmons gave me an idea on what to expect from a dog her age and history of non cleanings and gave me a quote. I got a call from Dr. Simmons while he was performing the work and told me what needed to be done. It was less then he expected and showed me exactly what was done on ex-rays and charts. I picked up Zoe with directions on what to do and got a call the following day "Saturday" to check on her. This was great service, her breath no longer smells, and she is healthier. Thank you so much!!! more

More days of sunshine than I would have thought possible. Without Dr. Mike, Sunshine would not have graced my life for over 16 years. Acupuncture treatments easily added another happy 2 years to her life. Dr. Mike is a thorough, caring, compassionate, veterinarian who takes the overall health and well being of our companion animals into consideration. He doesn't just hand you a bunch of pharmaceuticals in hopes that they'll work. I would say he is balanced, utilizing the best parts of both western and eastern medicine to add quality years to the time we're allowed as pet owners. That's all any of us want. More happy years with our pets. If it is possible, Dr. Mike will find those extra years, and act as your support system through all of them. more

This veterinarian practice is the most caring, compassionate and knowledgeable vet practice I have EVER encountered. My dog was in excruciating pain with a bulging disk in his back. We took him to an emergency vet and another vet practice in Tallahassee for relief. They gave him pain medication to mask the pain, but once that wore off he was crying, shaking, panting uncontrollably. I took him to Oakwood and they gave him laser treatments as well as medication which alleviated the pain he was enduring. He had a relapse on a Sunday and Dr. Rudegeair drove 1 hour to meet us at his office, while he himself was recovering from pneumonia, to alleviate the pain my dog was experiencing.We continued with 6 laser treatments, an acupuncture treatment and alot of TLC and after 9 days our dog is back to like nothing every happened. We have to do what we can to keep him down and rest while he continues to heal. Donna is so wonderful and calming when we were so stressed out trying to help our dog. The entire staff is incredibly compassionate and truly cares about the welfare of your pet. I have NEVER recommended a vet practice before and we have lived in many different places - but if anyone comes to Tallahassee and wants to take their pet to a wonderful and trusting practice - I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Oakwood Animal Hospital and Wellness more

Just wanted to say thank you to you, the Oakwood staff, and Docs. Its extremely apparent that you all genuinely care for the animals treated at your hospital and I would not want Jax cared for at any other place :). In general, thank you for being great people and great vets! more

I don't know why people are leaving bad reviews for this place because it is seriously the best place to take your pet. I remember taking our dogs to see Dr. Mike when I was a small child. Now that I'm an adult I take my dog there. I find their prices to be reasonable. When a visit has been on the expensive side they've allowed me to split the bill into two separate payments. Even if they were the most expensive place in town I wouldn't dream of taking my dog anywhere else. more

The Two Docotors Who Saved Me... Princess Lilly - A 10 year old Dochshund. Dr Dudegeair was my doctor from the time I was 8 weeks old until December of 2010 when he retired. New kids in town - Dr. Simmon and Dr. Wanous. My first visit was due to an elevated liver panel. My mom was a very concerned and not so trusting of the new doctors. When repeated labds confirmed very high results I was started on Denamarin and wa to return in 30 days to repeat lab work to see if the new medication was working. However, on January 4 when no one was looking I ate 4 pieces of fried chicken! My tummy blew up like a balloon. Needless to say, my mom rushed me to see Dr. Simmons and Dr. Wanous wishing it were Dr. Rudegeair who she knew and trusted, but her back was against the wall - nothing to do now but trust the new kids. Very reluctantly she had to leave me all day while she went back to work - very worried. She must have called 20 times that day and each time with mote patience than a saint, Dr. Wanous took her calls and tried to put her mind at ease. When mom was told I would need to stay all night, she almost fainted but with a lt of instractuons to follow I was allowed to go home for the nice and was to come back the next dat for more love, care and x-rays. The news was not good! The bones were still in my tummy, not moving and I was starting to vomit again! Surgery : Oh my gosh - keeping her composure while in front of Dr. Wanous, my momwas falling apart but with no choice she had to leave me so I could have surgery. By this time the doctors knew my mom's fears and Dr. Wanous called her very 2 to 3 hours and tried to reassure her I was getting the best of care. *No Choice* I had to stay all night. The last call to my mom was at 5:30 PM. But the love and care did not stop there!! I was cared for all night literally, the doctors stayed with me all night. My mom called me at 8AM the next morning and once again Dr. Wanous took the call. She was told how good and sweet I was and that I was doing great. I was able to go home that more

We really appreciate the wonderful care and attention Juice has recieved from Dr. Wanous, Dr. Simmons and the entire staf at Oakwood.
