Grrrrreat service 9/2/2010

I love this place. Ive bought a 75 gal tank from them, loads of pet supplies and im still coming back. I havent experianced any rudeness, or distasteful service (ever)\r \r I just left the store now with special ordered supplies. I came in a day prior and asked if they had a specific product, and the clerk said "no, but I am getting ready to order from my supplier and I can get it in tomorrow" so I came on down and she had it ready. She even gave me a bag of treats for my dog.\r \r While I was in there (5 mins) 2 other clerks asked if I needed help, and there was two others cleaning tanks (reptiles) so they do represent a great pet store to me. You will an never find a small town shop to smell like PetCo... But you will find a hard working niche. So it smells like a kennel.... Its a petstore. Lol... I love how distasteful the other reviews are. Just come see it for your self more

in shock I love this place 6/10/2010

I am shocked at all the bad reviews I do agree the store sticks and is a little hot but the animals are very healthy looking and as far as the employees they are mostly teenage girls but they are super helpful and the groomer is top of the line they do exchage if the animal is sick atleast for fish they do. more

Mistreatment of my pet 3/16/2010

I am glad that there is finally a place where I can share my experience about this store. 2 1/2 years ago I was moving and had to get rid of my male sugar glider. I had tried to find him a good home for months. As a last resort, I called Pet World and asked if they would take him (since I knew that they had sold them before). I gave them "Joey", all his food, toys, carrying cases, and NEW cage (that cost over $200). When I got there the female manager asked me to take him out of his pouch. I told her that he was very scared from the car trip. She snatched the pouch from me and very violently began to try to get him to come out. He snapped at her out of fear and she SLAMMED his pouch (WITH HIM INSIDE) on the counter! I was furious to say the least. It was hard enough that I was having to part with my pet, but the staff at this store made it a million times worse. I also had problems during previous visits to this store to purchase food for Joey- very rude people working there more

LOOK FOR YOURSELF!!! 1/26/2010

I am convinced that the myriad of people (all female names) are either a disgruntled employee or customer who is trying to give the store a bad name. Unfortunately this happens on the Internet. Please go into the store for yourself and look around, ask questions and see for yourself. Most of us can discern a bad pet business from a one that cares. more

Pet World is Disgusting!! 12/19/2009

Gloucester store is also DISGUSTING!!!! I visited the Gloucester location a couple of days ago for a tank hood . It was reasonably priced but the store was filthy!!! My daughter 18 and son 9 had to wait outside while I made the purchase because of the stinch in the store!! I asked the sales associate what the smell was coming from and he said the small animals!!! I thought it was from the cat but he said it was the hampsters, gerbils etc...When I got back in the car after being in the store 10 mins. my children said that I stunk like the store!!!I don't know how they stay in business!!The health dept. needs to visit this store. It would definetly fail!!!! more

This place is disgusting 7/29/2009

I personally don't see how this location has managed to stay in business. The animals are housed with absolutely no regard to their safety or comfort- the tanks and cages are always dirty and severely lacking mental stimulation for the animals, and they're usually overcrowded . While they do have a very wide variety, the animals are crammed into a space suitable for maybe a third of their selection. A number of animals looked sick or just plain miserable, and it's simply heartbreaking. more

These people (below me) are nuts! 7/23/2009

I have no idea what store these people have been to, but they are crazy. I've been getting supplies for my cats, fish, and turtle there for a while, and these people know what they're doing. I have bought all nine of my fish from them, and not a single one was sick or has ever had any problems. I've never seen anyone use a dirty net or use the same net in different tanks, in fact, I was pleased to see the clerk who always gets my fish for me rinse the net off before dipping it into the tank. I have had extensive conversations with the owner about fish-keeping, and he gives me the impression that he cares about the happiness and health of the fish as well as my enjoyment of them. He's never tried to encourage me to buy something inferior or unnecessary, unlike those folks at PetSmart. I've also been impressed with their accomodation when I've had a problem- an item I bought there broke and he swapped it out for a better model, no questions asked, and gave me store credit as well. This Place needs to be Closed 2/26/2009

This pet store sales sick animals, it dirty and nasty and the staff is not knowledgeable in handling or caring for animals, My opinion is the owner may be nice but he is there for the money and not for the love of pet ownership. Upon walking in the store the ODOR is overwhelming and stuffy. There seems to be a lack of proper ventilation in the whole store. The staff person took a net from one tank water from another and scooped a fish out of yet another tank... thats cross contamination right there.. and they will not refund even when you prove the animals is sick straight from there store. This place needs the health dept to visit. more

they sold me 1 and only after an arugument about law said they would refund my money .DONT GO HERE.... THEY MAY HAVE BEEN I BIZ FOR AWHILE BUT I HAD TO ACCIDENTALLY GET IN A THREE WAY CONVO THAT MADE THEM DO ME RIGHT ...I E ..GIVE MY MONEY BACK more

Great Service 11/17/2008

These other people must have the wrong pet store in mind. I love ths place. Its always clean, doesn't smell bad and the service is always great-not to mention great prices. They are cheaper than petsmart and I've never seen moody teenage girls working there. The owner is always pleasant. I can't think of a better shop. more

I'm sorry these other people didn't like the store. This store has had the best staff and service of any pet store on the peninsula. I live around the corner from another pet store and I travel to there's because I know I will get quick, friendly service. They have even given a pet show to my daughter's class at no charge! They are the only pet store I'll go to. more

YUCK 4/29/2008

This is a dirty nasty place.Its hot and it smells bad! I feel bad for the animals trapped here. Their cages are dirty and often food/water bowls empty. The staff seems to always be made up of teenage girls with bad attitudes. The owner is nice but, seems more concerned with making money than helping customers. I wouldnt recommend this as a first choice for anyone buying a live animal. more

I wouldn't recommend this place 9/2/2005

I called my veterinarian on Friday about my cat that had worms. They couldn't get me in until Tuesday. They told me to go to a pet store and get cat worm medicine. I went to pet world. They me that no one sells a worm medicine for cats. And my veterinarian because they are on base would not be able to treat him. They gave me a card to a vet they had on the counter by their register. I went to pet smart and they had what I was looking for. I just wonder how many other people they have told that to just to get them to go to that vet! more
