Dr. Ako is the best vet on the island. 3/5/2012

Dr. Ako is the best vet I have ever taken my dogs, birds, and rabbits to. He is very knowledgeable about all kinds of animals. He cares for my pets very well and he saved us a lot of money. When the other vet told us that our dog Kala'i needed very expensive surgery, we took her to Dr. Ako for a second opinion. He told us that she didn't need the surgery and told us what we should do for her. I wouldn't trust my pets with anyone else. I drive all the way from Ewa Beach to Kahala just to take my pets to see Dr. Ako. I like that he is humorous to ease everyone's worries, but isn't afraid to reprimand an owner if they are endangering their pets and explain the proper care for their animal. more

Way to go Doc 9/7/2010

I think all you peeps who say negatory on the Pet Doctor have bumped your head and seriously need to see a doctor for that. Although, everyone is entitled to their opinion, I don't agree with those who have not said anything positive. The Pet Doctor is a great place to take your pet for any and all of your pets health issues. Dr. Ako is pleasant and is clear when he explains whats going on with your pet. Way to go Doc, Lori, and staff. Thanx for taking care of our dog. more

Great Vet! 8/13/2010

We love Dr. Ako. We've been taking our animals to him for 16 years and have never had a bad experience. He is extremely knowledgeable and takes the time to really talk to us about our animal's health. Whenever we've had an emergency (which we have had several), the office will work us in quickly even if their schedule is booked. I'd definitely recommend Dr. Ako! more

I like Dr Ako 5/20/2010

I take my dog and my bird to Dr Ako and I just think those of you who think he is rude just don't understand his sense of humor. I have never had a problem with him, he has always been very nice to me and my daughter when we bring our pets in and he jokes around with us. I do have a problem with one of his receptionist she is rather rude! As she gave me a hard time about giving me an spot for my dog when she was sick and when I finally got her in Dr Ako told me I should have brought her in much sooner and I infomed him that his receptionsit would not give me a sooner appt and told me it was not needed and he spoke to her about that!!! So he is very caring about the animals and I trust him with my pets!!! more

terrible vet 5/10/2010

We took our dogs to this vet a couple of times. Abrupt is way understating his rudeness. The real issue is that we took our dog in who was sick, she had jumpied into a pond and we suspected she had leptospirosis. He said he thought she ha a variety of it that could be fatal. When the test came back negative he was so arrogant that he said he thought for sure she had it anyway and she might die within a couple of days. My husband and I were heartsick. Turns out he was totally wrong. This was a few years ago and she is now 12 years old and fine. What he put us through because of his arrogance was inhumane. more

A Solid Performance 3/5/2008

I was surprised by Jasmine's review. I've known Dr. Eric Ako since 1992 when I worked at the Honolulu Zoo and he was a member of our Board of Directors. He can be abrupt at times because he is so dedicated to his patients, which is what I want in a vet. He has cared for my cats for 14 years. He just caught my Buster's hyper-thyroidism, thus saving his life, and Bus is responding well to treatment. As for not knowing an airdale from an airhead, one of his vet peers told me once that they are not particularly skilled at determining a specific breed as they are in what is going on in the health of the particular patient. a vet you can trust 12/13/2007

I've been taking my birds to Dr. Ako for about 18 years now. I trust him completely. His practice is very busy and sometimes it's hard to get appointments, but he's worked me in on occasions when he is booked solid. He is sometimes abrupt, but if you want your pet to have the best care he is someone I highly recommend. more

Don't go to this clinic 10/30/2005

I was very unsatisfied with this clinic and ended up switching to another one. In the beginning, we liked the doctor, but after I had to leave my dog during the day for a minor surgery, he hated the vet and the office every time we would go back. The vet also told us he thought our dog was part Airedale, when he is clearly not. He was also rude to my mom when he said something to her and she thought he was talking to the technician, and so didn't respond. Overall, a bad experience. more
