I love this place! Pros: null Cons: null

This pet store is small, I could not find what I needed and the staff was not very helpful. Although easy to find and lots of parking, I still would not recommend them to anyone....

6 years later I still believe I got the best dog from here 5/22/2013

I bought my Cavalier-cocker spaniel mix in April 2007 when I was a senior at U-M. He was a "discount doggie" since he was almost 6 months old. He had surgery on both his eyes already to correct his "cherry eye" (sounds like responsible store practice to me), and was sold to me at half price with a month's supply of dog food, treats (those nasty pig ears that he loves), free vet check and a 1 year health guarantee. The cherry eye came back later and he needed more surgery to fix it, but I've read that this is common in purebred dogs bought from small breeders as well. Dr. Lewis at All Creatures gave him a complete clean bill of health at his first inspection (no kennel cough, parasites, or other diseases). I later took him to our family veterinarian, who said the same. \r \r At 6 1/2 years old, he's still in perfect health and hasn't had any illnesses.\r \r My little spaniel now lives with me overseas. He's been my best friend and the greatest dog I could have ever imagined. He just p more

Editorial review from Citysearch 12/8/2012

I am the owner of Pet City Grooming and I want to point out that the review dated 11-28-12 posted by a Beth K is a fraudulent review. You may be able to tell that by the bad spelling, grammar, and overall stupidity of the review. At best it would be considered hear-say, as the writer admits hearing of this third-hand. We had no such eye incident occur here at all on the purported day. . Be assured that we have two of the very best groomers in Washtenaw County: Cheryl and Susan and my wife Annette. All three are very competent and caring individuals. Thanks for not believing everything written! Stu more

Sketchy Place 5/16/2012

This store is not clean, and they have too many puppies in close quarters (ideal situations for passing parasites). There were at least 5 litters of puppies in the store. Each litter had a seperate pin, but they were all in the same room, on the storeroom floor. When I asked about where a specific litter of puppies came from, one guy told me that the store owner goes out and personally checks out local breeders before they agree to accept the puppies. The next day I called and talked to the store owner. When I asked him directly about the conditions at this litter's breeder he said he didn't know, that they were from a relative of the guy he normally works with. He said frankly that he didn't have time to go out and see all of the breeders. Pros: null Cons: null more

This is a great pet store 1/22/2012

I think this is the best pet shop in Washtenaw County. period. Been shopping here since 1993 after I moved from St. Louis. The store is clean, selection good, and the pets are all healthy and well taken care of. Prices are very good ( I compared 3 standard items next to Petco's price... ) and Pet City Pets beat them every time. The puppies are especially healthy clean and taken care of. Again... the prices are very reasonable. Call up Petland Novi or any other pet shop to compare. I don't know where all their pups come from: but I think most of them just come from local people. Heck I even sold him 3 doxie pups of my own in 2004. Steve is the manager... he's there all the time.and he is flat-out just a pet guy: he knows reptiles better than anyone I know of. Don't believe any of the bad reviews ( almost all smaller independent pet shops get crappy reviews... must be the tree-huggers and animal rights idiots writing them). This place rocks!! Professional Service in a clean environment 5/3/2011

I had just moved here from Michigan Center, MI and was looking for a gentle, capable, professional groomer who knew how to do a Yorkshire Terrier traditional cut. I found Pet City Grooming and I'm very thankful that I did. They treat my baby with care and they are very flexible in working him in to be groomed on short notice. Their staff is competent, gentle, and caring both towards your animal and yourself. I am now from Southgate and I bypass all of the groomer's in that area to come to Wyandotte for his grooming and supply needs. My Yorkie, Kobe, is part of my family and I trust them with my son. . I would highly recommend Pet City Grooming for all of your grooming and supply needs. more

Huh? 11/17/2010

I bought a Beabull from Pet City Pets. I went to the store often to look at the pups and they never seemed overcrowded or filthy. The person that commented that the pups were in pens on the floor screaming has off perception. They have floor pens for the pups to run around and exercise. And why would they take dying puppies all the way to Lansing instead of their local vet? That posting is obviously a set up. Yes, the owners are hillbillies, but the dogs are healthy. A well-respected, published vet checks all their animals. I love my naughty Beabull from Pet City Pets. more

much improved! 10/7/2010

I moved back to the area after being gone 3 years... and bought a mini English bulldog pup ( I couldn't resist). You know even when I shopped there 3 years ago .. it was a very decent place... and now it's got a much better layout, seemed cleaner, and spiffier, really. They have the same staff as before... and I think they are top notch. Steve is the absolute greatest guy..knows his stuff and the guy makes you feel comfortable, more

Not a good choice! 5/14/2010

This store always stinks and is dirty... It has always been that way. I was in there and the tanks with the small pets, hamsters, gerbils, mice and rats looked like they hadn't been cleaned in a very long time and they smelled so bad I couldn't stand it.\r Also they will tell you that they get their puppies from the community and that is not completely true. They purchase their puppies from puppy mills. I would suggest that if you are in the market for a new family member puppy go to the humane society. You will have a 100% gurarantee that the animals you adopt if healthy. more

sold wrong breed! 8/25/2009

After months of researching dogs my family and I decided a Mini Bulldog would best suit our family. We traveled all the way from the eastside of Detroit to Pet City Pets in search of our ideal puppy. We were sold on a Mini Bulldog which cost us $1200.00. Very expensive dog but after doing the research we knew this type of dog would not be cheap. Megan told us the puppy was 75% Eng Bulldog and 25% Pug which is a Mini Bulldog. We have had Gus now for about 7 months and can now tell he is a Beagle mix. A Bulldog Beagle mix is called a Beabull and they are much cheaper then a Mini Bulldog. We even think Gus might be more Beagle then Bulldog. The only Bulldog characteristic he has is an underbite. He looks, pointes, jumps, and smells just like a Beagle! He doesnt even have a wrinkled face. Pet City Pets has Beabulls for sale for half of what we paid for Gus. We have nothing against Beagles but we had our hearts set on a Mini Bulldog and we got a Beabull. I will never buy a puppy from a pet store ever again! Does anyone know what I can do legally about this? Pros: cute puppy Cons: they lied about my dogs breed more

Nice people but... 4/13/2009

I recently purchased a puppy from Pet City. My puppy like many others that have written reviews had two different parasites and kennel cough. So within the 1st two weeks i spent $250 on 3 vet visits, meds, and dog food. Pros: Good selection of dogs and other animals more

Would I buy from them again?? No!! 11/7/2008

We arrived at Pet City pets and held the dog we had picked out online. It coughed and the guy said we must have held her too tight. well--we were excited so we paid and left. The next day our dog was coughing so bad it took all her strength. We brought her to our vet, who said she had a case of kennel cough. Also--she had ear mites. Gave us some medicine and we went home. The next day, our pup could not even get up Took her back to the vet, and she has Pneumonia. Well--we got a strong antibiotic and she got better. Our vet said he would not by from a place that has that many dogs. more

Dont Shop Here 8/6/2008

This pet store is small, I could not find what I needed and the staff was not very helpful. Although easy to find and lots of parking, I still would not recommend them to anyone.\r \r I also wonder if they sell puppy mill pups? more

Caring personal Pet store 7/17/2008

I live a few blocks away from Pet City. We used to use them for all of our tropical fish needs. We liked the people there so much that we decided to buy our puppy there too. The puppy cages are clean, the dogs look happy and ours was perfect when we picked him out. Pros: Caring more

Clearly .. adpot a dog, or buy from a KNOWN breeder. 5/3/2008

I would not recommend this place. I read the warnings, but already fell in love with a dog. While the staff is very nice, the conditions of the dogs is not good. My yorkie-poo came home with two different parasites as well as kennel cough. Since the dog was already so small, the kennel cough was horrible to him, it took all his strength for each cough and so he slept for the first like 3 weeks of owning the dog. - Since my dog wasn't diagnosed with kennel cough till a week later, they refused to pay for any of his bills, so within the first two weeks of owning my dog he cost me over $250 in vet bills. The staff at All Creatures Animal Clinic was very helpful and nice - but you can tell the two companies work with one another - the vet didn't make any of his health concerns seem like a problem at all. While I'm glad I got this dog, I would never go back there again. :( Pros: I love my dog Cons: Many of there dogs are sick, because of the care given to them at Pet City Pets. more

GREAT SERVICE,GREAT PEOPLE, AND CLEAN CAGES 4/28/2008

I BOUGHT A PUPPY FROM THEM 1-08-08 . THE CAGES WHERE CLEAN.DOGS WHERE BARKING HAVEING FUN.STAFF WAS GREAT .... I DIDNT SEE ANY SICK PUPPIES OR ANYTHING THAT WAS SICK! I HAD A GREAT EXPERIENCE AND I WOULD FEEL SAFE TELLING ANYONE TO BUY A PUPPY FROM THEM! Pros: GREAT STAFF AND AWESOME PETS Cons: PUPPIES ARE TO CUTE! more

Buyer Beware! DO NOT BUY FROM THIS PLACE!!!!!!!!!!! 10/29/2007

My husband and I purchased a Puggle puppy from Pet City Pets on 09/14/07. A couple of hours later our puppy was coughing. I contacted Megan the very next day and she arranged a visit to Michigan Avenue Animal Hospital, where they diagnosed my puppy with Kennel Cough. She was given a penicillin shot, an antibioticic, and cough tablets. On 9/22/07, we took our puppy to All Creatures Animal clinic, which is the clinic that services the animals from Pet City Pets. We provided the vet with the records from the first visit for our dog. The vet prescribed another cough medicine. My husband took our puppy back to All Creatures Animal Hospital on 10/06/07 and our puppy ended up having a bladder infection and had to be put on more antibiotics and two other pills for the bladder infection. The vet asked how our dog's cough was and my husband said it was a little better and she said that our puppy was still coughing because her collar was to tight. The vet said our puppy would need to be seen in another 3 to 4 weeks. In the meantime, our dog's cough became worse and I made another appointment for a vet near my home on 10/27/07. This vet ended up doing x-rays and found that our puppy had pnuemonia and prescribed another, stronger antibiotic. When I called Megan from Pet City Pets, she pretty much said it was my fault that the puppy was sick and that I should been able to see the signs and that it is not their responsibility. My puppy has been very active and eating well and gaining weight. I was very upset to read these other reviews and find that on other occassions this store has sold sick puppies with the same illinesses and claim that it is not their responsibility. This store should be put out of business. I am just glad that we were able to give this puppy a safe and loving home where she is and will be taken care of properly. PLEASE DO NOT BUY FROM PET CITY PETS! THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT THE ANIMALS THEY SELL OR THE PEOPLE THAT BUT THEM! IT IS ALL ABOUT THE MONEY FOR THEM. Pros: I was able to purchase a beautiful puppy Cons: The employees do not care about the animals or customers more

I hope no one has to go thru what I did! 9/12/2007

It will be 2 years ago in January that I got my puggle Winston from Pet City Pets. My poor Winston was sent to me on Jan. 3, 2006. I picked that cute little guy up from the airport and took him home. He seemed a little tired but other then that was fine. I the noticed that he had a cough, took him to the vet where they said he had kennel cough. I took him home and put him on medication. The next night Winston was up chucking and had bad # 2's. I took him to the vet early the next morning before work where they said they needed to keep him for tests. Winston died the next morning of Kennel Cough, Pneumonia, and Parvo. Parvo is a virus that will eat the dog's intestines and make them up chuck and have bloody # 2's until they die. It is a VERY PAINFUL death and I watched this poor little puppy go thru this. I contacted Stu after he died and he said that he was not responsible for that because we had given him Parvo when the vet and all of the websites about it said that it takes 12 days to contract and I had him 5! They would not repay me for my $2000 in medical bills for one day or the $200 for the flight but they did refund my money for Winston without a "sorry for your loss". I did some investigations and found out that I was not the only one who had a puppy die from them. I also contacted the Humane Society and they already had reports out on them and they said they would add mine to it. So for the lady who said that they were the best and that the humane society was not involved... YOU LIED or was misinformed because I am one of the people who told them about it. I am telling Winston's story so that no one else has to go thru what I did. At least I knew what was going on, unlike children. Pros: Winston was very cute, sweet and smart Cons: He DIED after I had him for 5 days more

Professional, clean, caring, & healthy pets 7/31/2007

I had to weigh in after reading the negative reviews. I'm not sure these people are writing about Pet City... cuz I have been going there regularly for 18 years ( I live in the area) ... and I think they really care : about their customers and their pets. My son worked there for 18 months and was treated very fairly. Ypsilanti is a small town: if these folks sold sick puppies, and the animals had mange, parasites, sick, starving.....and were dying at the door: would they still be in business???? Gimme a break. Hey anyone can write reviews and say anything they want: including animal rights activists, competing pet shops, disgruntled customers..... anyone! What next? They fight pit bulls in their attic???? Pros: clean, caring, courteous Cons: can't think of any really more

Sick, Smelly, Rude, Careless 6/24/2007

I bought a kitten and a puppy from them at the same time a few weeks ago. I was advised not to do it but I didn't listen. The puppy had: Mange, Pnumonia, Kennel Cough, Fleas, Tape Worms, Round Worms and Ear Mites. The Kitten had: Upper respiratory infection, fleas, tape worms, round worms and pink eye. I had to spend over 1000 in medical bills to get them better which they rufused to cover because I would not take them to the same vet who obviously didn't know what she was doing. There were small animals near death and a smell that would knock you out. All of the animals had parasites and were sitting in their own waste. This place is nasty, don't do it!!! Pros: cuteness Cons: disease and parasites, heart aches, defects, filth more
