Persimmon Restaurant

After reading many reviews , our group of 4 thought we had the wrong restaurant , the greeting was cold and barely a hello and the atmosphere was tense at best . Restaurant week seemed the perfect time to try Persimmon and the menu seemed inviting . Everyone tried a different entree with appetizer and dessert , from the cod , pork and veal . Massachusetts sea scallop , consisted of 1 tiny scallop sliced into 5 pieces . The entree of veal consisted of a miniscule , 2"" square piece of veal on a plate with a strand or 2 of vegetable . In all my years of dining have never received such a meal . They assurred this was not a tasting but the complete meal . Enter at one's own risk . more

My wife and I have been coming to Bristol for a couple years, but we'd always come at times Persimmon was closed. Last night, 04/08/2010, we finally timed it for dinner. Persimmon looked like a pleasant little place and we always wanted to try it.\r \r What we found was a major gem. I read the other reviews and although it's true that Persimmon isn’t a Brazilian steakhouse or a buffet, the quantity of food was fine.\r \r My wife and I ordered to vegetable appetizers, two glasses of wine, 2 entrees, and shared a desert. The cost of our meal was around $100. The appetizers were made from local produce and were complex combinations of tastes. For entrées, I had the lamb and my wife had the halibut. Like the appetizers, they were spectacular.\r \r Persimmon doesn't have a desert chef and they don't need one. Our desert was made by the executive chef and owner and it was so good it practically put my wife in a coma. I'm not a desert eater, but I thought our desert, a chocolate mousse cake, was amazing.\r \r There is no way I can say enough about this wonderful restaurant. The food, the décor, the service, and the food were first rate…more than first rate. I can't get past the fact that all 6 of us left hungry, the quantity of food (forget the money) was silly. \r \r I don't care how good the staff is, presentation, quality or taste is...if your customers leave hungry, you fell short on one of four key deliverables. I just moved here from Manhattan and can't believe my luck finding this restaurant. It can go head to head with any New York fine eatery, but has the incredible small town feel and charm - no pretension whatsover!. The food takes advantage of all local ingredients, is market fresh and current. The chef is a master at pairing foods with just the right amount of ingredients....each bite is one to savor. \r I almost don't want to tell anyone about it, but it's too good not to share..... more

this restaurant isn't here aymore. A restaurant called Persimmon is there now, and it is fantastic ad has quickly become one of the most popular spots in town! more
