Pepose Vision Institute - Chesterfield Office

The price I was originally quoted over the phone when I set up my appointment was $40 (for a refractor fee or something) + 80 for something else (not sure what) and said the total would be around $125 ( not sure if that was a $125 charge for something else, as I see on the billing statement that you charged me an additional $125 for soft spherical , not sure what that is). Even if you include the additional $125 charge, what I was quoted over the phone would still only have been $245.00 and NOT the $350.00 that I just payed. The billing manager called me and tried to explain the charges, she said that the $80 would have been if I was already a customer and since I wasn't I was charged $150 (new customer fee. I told her that I was never quoted a ""new customer fee"" of $150. The manager said that the people at the desk were NOT supposed to give out pricing quotes and that she would talk to them. That still doesn't change that fact that I feel as though I was involved in a bait-and-switch scam. If I had been quoted a price anywhere close to the $350 dollars I was charged, I would have looked elsewhere for service as $350 is the highest price I have ever paid for an eye exam. I feel that I should be charged the price I was originally quoted. Even if they wanted to charge me for additional procedures (which I was never asked and/or told this would be an additional fee) would be fine. The $150 ""new customer service charge"" should be refunded as I was never told about this and they knew prior to setting up the appointment that I was a new customer. more

The people who don't recommend this place to their friends and family must be related to another eye doctor in town!! I've never been to a place that is more interested in my well-being. I went there to get eye surgery to get rid of my glasses and they told me they wouldn't do the surgery because I have the beginnings of an eye disease that could be made worse off by the procedure. Imagine that..not only did they turn my money away, bu they enrolled me in a free study to try to slow the progression of my eye disease. Talk about honesty! more

Pepose is all about making money! He got me for $5000.00 after lasik and my eyes are worse now than they were before the surgery. that was 7yrs ago. now I have to get cornea transplants . Thanks alot Pepose, You eye butcher! more

Dr. Pepose took me from legally (literally) blind to better than 20/20 back in 2007. No more dry, itchy, burning contacts. Woohoo!!!! more

Had the surgery... wanted to be able to not wear glasses for distance. Knew I would have to wear readers after the surgery. No one told me about the distance at arms length being affected. I am a nurse and went for 6 months not being able to see well before I could have a second surgery.No one listened to what I needed. I would actually get so frustrated at my f/u appts I would cry and no one cared. They refused to give me a glasses prescription after the surgery and I had to find readers that were strong enough to kind of read at arm length....at times wearing two readers at once at work!! very disappointed! I tell everyone I know of my experience. I also contended with dry eyes for about one year... taking expensive Restasis plus 3 other drops. I should never have been a candidate for surgery. Beware!!! Lots of slick advertisement do not make a good,compassionate Dr. Shame on you Dr. Pepose and your associates! more

When patients present to us for an annual opthalmologic exam, we take the responsibility of protecting, maintaining and, if possible, enhancing their vision very seriously. We realize how precious eye sight is to every single patient. That is why we request that all patients over age 40 have a dilated examination with us annually. We realize that for some patients it can take up to a half hour and several series of drops just to achieve dilation of the pupils, which while time consuming, allows us to detect macular disease, glaucoma, and other potentially treatable sight threatening conditions that would be missed without dilation. It is not unusual for us to see older patients with more than 5 concurrent ocular conditions that each requires monitoring and more extensive testing. Because of our sensitivity to protect patient confidentiality, we have placed different testing equipment in separate rooms, so that the testing and discussions with doctors and staff remain private and confidential. While we realize the the patient might be brought to a number of rooms to complete the series of tests that the doctor has ordered, it is because of high regard of the patient's rights that we have designed our facility to maintain a professional, respectful and confidential atmosphere. Privacy can only be protected by having individual rooms for each form of testing. The process of testing and dilation, history taking, and examination takes time during the annual eye exam, just as an annual examination with an internist takes more time and may involve an EKG, x-ray and blood tests. Once the tests are complete and the patient is dilated, our board certified subspecialists interpret the tests, examine the patient, and come up with a treatment plan in an efficient and expedient fashion. We hope that patients don't misconstrue our high regard for quality eye care and thorough examination and testing as an imposition on their time or a lack of respect. While we are certain that there are other practices that may take short cuts with testing and forego a thorough dilated retinal examination, there is a reason why the doctors at Pepose Vision Institute have been nominated to the Best Doctors in America by their peers (other eye doctors) for the past 18 years in a row when asked where they would bring a loved one if they needed ophthalmic care and treatment. more

After much research and many recommendations, both my husband and I traveled from Jefferson City, MO to St. Louis to have our cataract surgery performed by Dr. Jay Pepose. We were impressed day one with the amount of tentativeness and expertise that was shown to us. I am happy to report that Dr. Pepose performed the Crystalens cataract procedure on the two of us and we are now seeing free of glasses for the first time in many decades. Dr. Pepose was patient and kind, a characteristic I had not expected by such a pioneer in the eyecare industry. My husband and I thank God each day for giving Dr. Pepose the gift to correct our vision. We strongly recommend Dr. Pepose to all of our friends, family members and now to all of you today! more

My experience with LASIK and Dr. Pepose was WONDERFUL! Words can't describe what it was like to see a clock hanging on a wall for the first time in 30 years without having glasses on or contacts in. I will never forget seeing that it was 12:50 when I got our of the chair after having the LASIK performed. My eyes were extremely bad (20/2000) and they are now 20/20. Things are much clearer and brighter than they ever were with contacts. The procedure was completely painless and quick. I had it videotaped and my son, who is in the fourth grade, took the tape for show and tell. The kids thought it was awesome. I would highly recommend Dr. Pepose and the procedure to anyone. The people at both the office and the Laser Vision Center were very friendly and knowledgeable. It has changed my life in a way I never thought possible - to see is truly one of life's greatest blessings. Thanks to all of you - you are super! more

I had my LASIK eye surgery on a Saturday morning and returned the following Sunday morning for my follow up check with Dr. Pepose. The operation itself had gone quickly and smoothly with only minor eye irritation following. Only 24 hours ago I could not even read the big ""E"" on the eye chart. Now I had 20/20 vision and my astigmatism was gone. It was unbelievable, a miracle. My husband and I returned from the office visit to attend our Sunday church service. I opened my hymnal to begin singing an unfamiliar song, easily following the printed words without any aid from eyeglasses or contacts for the first time in 31 years. ""Dare to dream the vision promised."" I sang the second line of the hymn with a smile pulling at the comers of my mouth. Dr. Pepose and his staff had helped me to ""dare to dream"" of renewed vision and achieve it. They had been very professional and courteous along the way, taking whatever time was needed to answer all my questions and concerns about the entire LASIK procedure and follow up. I had never felt pressured to undergo the operation, and Dr. Pepose had been quite careful to present a realistic picture of the outcome of the procedure and any possible complications. I began wearing glasses in the second grade. Through the years my eyesight became steadily worse. I coped as one has to and later began wearing contact lenses and then added reading glasses. Without them I was legally blind. Thirty-five years after I began wearing glasses, I saw a medical show on a new procedure called Lasik. It was listed as experimental and I began to follow the news concerning this procedure. A year or so later when I heard an advertisement for Lasik surgery and Dr. Pepose I immediately called and went for my consultation. I didn't care if my eyesight couldn't be corrected to 20-20. What I wanted was better eyesight that allowed easier correction as my astigmatism and near-sightedness always had been difficult to properly correct. When Dr. Pepose and his staff told me I was a candidate for Lasik I was so excited. I scheduled it for the soonest it could be done and, you might say, I haven't looked back. In fact, as I began to stand up after the surgery, Dr. Pepose came around the laser to assist me. I looked at him and I distinctly saw the features of his face. That's the closest thing to a miracle I've ever witnessed. I have 20-20 vision with no additional correction needed. Every day I marvel at my eyesight and am so pleased I waited for this particular procedure, Dr. Pepose and his staff. more

I wore glasses for twenty six years. I was seven when I got my first pair. Growing up we did a lot of camping, boating, swimming, and water skiing. I never could tell if the spotter in the boat was saying hi or using sign language to go faster. The morning after my surgery I could see the cow and goat out in our pasture and I could tell them apart. WOW! I thought I was wearing my glasses and when I touched my face I realized I could see without them. Thank you Dr. Pepose for changing my life, and giving me 20/20 vision. I was really anxious before going through my first cataract surgery... Because Dr. Qazi and his staff at Barnes St. Peters Hospital made it such a positive experience, I knew exactly what to expect for my second cataract surgery... My vision is very good and objects are much brighter in color. All in all, a very positive experience and I would recommend it to anybody who requires cataract surgery. more

Reading is something I truly enjoy and it has been wonderful not having to always hunt for my glasses. We also enjoy being outdoors. Everything looks so bright and beautiful. I am so very happy I had the surgery and was blesses to have Dr. Qazi as my doctor. He did an excellent job. more
