Aloha All, As a retired RN who has worked in NICU/PICU in three states including HI, plus been a public health nurse my experience with Dr Kaiwi was superior & I recommend him to others. I cannot speak to the 2020 allegations, however I found him to be competent & his staff peerless, especially Agnes. Frankly, one has to question if he was "entrapped" due to the political hysteria bias against pain management? May Dr Kaiwi be acquitted of all charges & return to his excellent practice of medicine? As an RN I applaud strict control of analgesics because this class of medicine may be extremely dangerous without proper competent medical management which I experienced with Dr Kaiwi. I wish him & his staff well & may justice prevail? Unmanaged pain must be treated aggressively since moderate to extreme pain can & does cause dementia & actual CNS shrinkage leading to substantial premature aging. This has been confirmed by MRI, clinical presentation & detailed study of mental functioning with double blind studies that have been replicated to validate this theory. Please realize the extreme mindless crusade against pain management is extremely dangerous & harmful to those who have valid pain issues. That said, I repeat, all administration of these potent analgesics MUST BE VERY CAREFULLY & CONSTANTLY MONITORED BY AN ANALGESIC SPECIALIST OR VERY EXPERIENCED MD OR DO who rigorously assesses & evaluates the patient to achieve maximum efficacy & safety! First of all this man is NOT a trained educated Pain Specialist!, He's a locally schooled General Practitioner (UH) who has then joined (sent $ to) a number of pain associations that sell memberships and email lists. True pain specialists will have academic background in Anesthesiology from fully accredited Mainland or International Medical Schools (with more competitive acceptance ratios than UH J.Burns Medical) with at the least a residency specializing in Pain Practice, Pain Medicine, end stage oncology, geriatric care or similar chronic pain training. Importantly, This Doctor is a bully, is rude, a misogynist and racist. He may be "perfectly" polite for your first appointment ONLY. Be sure to tape record or video all interactions with this practitioner. In 2014 this professional behavior should not be tolerated, the doctors should be sanctioned with grievances filed at the appropriate state boards of licensing. more
