Bad Experience 4/7/2010

Chef Patrick's food is O.K., but over-priced. I would, however, not have mined much, until I had the displeasure of meeting the chef himself. He is absolutely and unbelievably rude and obnoxious. After reading other reviews I'm not the only one that believes it to be true. Had I not experienced it first hand, I would have read the other reviews and thought he couldn't be all that bad, but he is! The staff was also a bit rude, but considering that they work with ""Pat"", I'm not surprised. I really like that he has a pet friendly restaurant and would have liked to have returned at some other time with my dog, but I will never return. Of that I am sure. Also, as of today, he has not updated his menu prices on his website and his prices are considerably higher than advertised. Pros: Pet Friendly Cons: Rude Chef more

Unfortunate Experience 7/11/2009

Our utter delight to be in quaint, bucolic Los Olivos for dinner was quickly ruined by unsatisfactory food and the mean owner who tried his best to hurt our feelings. At first we were willing to spend the $$$$ on items listed on their menu such as Abalone Steak and Pork Medallions. Their wine list was limited and short considering they are in the Santa Ynez Valley. The Pinot Noir we ordered was young and watery...what a disappointment. The ""steamed"" trout was fried having been egged and lightly breaded with dried herbs sprinkled on top; the menu did not list it as fried but steamed and I would expect fresh herbs for the price. Why egg, bread, and fry fresh fish? Something to hide? The potatoes were inedible because they were saturated in bacon grease...is this the great depression where grease was a staple? The cherry on top was my raging belly ache for the next 12 hours, along with the other three who ate with me who also had indigestion. In addition, the mean spirit of the owner, who spewed profanity and insults around the restaurant, ruins meals as well. The owner strutted around the restaurant in a dirty pair of shorts and tee shirt making grand statements that were intimidating or out right insulting to his guests. His staff seems petrified around him...reminds me of crazy Captain Ahab who horrified his crew. His bad attitude makes his restaurant intolerable. He is not cute and there is nothing endearing about his hostility. We will never return. Pros: Great old Western style building in gorgeous valley. Cons: Over-priced unwhelming food w/ bad attitude of mean owner more

Not surprised to read other postings on this place 4/14/2008

My wife and I went to Patrick's on a Saturday afternoon. The place was quite empty so we sat at the bar. The guy behind the counter looks at us, does not smile and puts his head down and continues cutting a breast of chicken. No ""welcome"", no ""hi,"" and no waitress to greet us for at least 15 mins. We have to ask for a waitress to come take our order. She takes our order as if we are bothering her. Bad Tude! Remember, the place is almost empty. Some people walk in to see if there is an open table out back and Patrick rudely snaps at them like they are children. Completely uncalled for behavior on Patrick's part. We live in Santa Ynez and he gives our valley a bad name with his rudeness. So after feeling uncomfortable already our food is either cold, tasteless or rubbery (romaine, prime rib, Paella). Wan't to enjoy yourself on all fronts of a meal, don't go here and Patrick, read your reviews and maybe check yourself at your velvet rope! Pros: The building is nice looking Cons: The owner's attitude more

Patrick does not know the meaning of customer service and his food has slipped in quality 4/1/2008

Cold food, horrible service and inexcusable BAD ATTITUDE sum up our experience at Patrick's. There is no excuse for it to take 15 minutes to get a menu in an empty restaurant at 12:30 on a Saturday afternoon. Then another 15 minutes to get a glass of water and then another 15 mins to get a glass of wine. Our waitress disappears and makes it seems as though she is doing us a service when we demand that she come over and take our order after 30 mins! Patrick is no help either. He is too busy making snide remarks about his staff and potential customers all while nursing a glass of wine. Maybe this is why the place seems as though no one is in charge. The food arrives cold! No apologies, no offers of making it better, no quality control. AVOIDAVAOID AVOID unless you want to burn good money on a lousy experience. Pros: Los Olivos is a beautiful town Cons: You would get better service with self service more

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE 3/27/2007

The first time I went to Patrick's, I was dumbfounded by how RUDE the service and Patrick himself were. in freezing weather, they made us sit outside even though there were seats inside. Not to mention the fact that it took them TWO HOURS to finally serve us...no apologies...no discount...just a snotty attirude from a place that is definitely below par to the establishments I usually eat at. Cons: Everything more

Awesome Food - Great Attitude! 7/5/2006

Patrick's is one of my husband & I's favorite places to dine. The one catch is that you must make a reservation...he hates those stupid LA people who think they can walk on it and nothing is funnier than watching him say...""Do you have a reservation? Buh-Bye"" as he waves them away"". We are Santa Barbarians and work part-time in wine counrty, and Patrick's has great food that he'll cook himself to perfcetion if you didn't like it the first time. I have never been disappointed with their food or atmosphere. People without reservations can sometimes get a patio or bar seat, but you ain't even sittin' by we smart people...they're in my cell and I'll call 'em on the way there! I love the way they cook a steak...to perfection! The cheese platter is to die for!!! If you're in the area have respect for our comminuty and clean up after yourselves...we don't want your garbage or garbage attitude littering our community! Pros: Great for people with varying diets Cons: Make that reservation! more

Patrick is a jerk 5/23/2006

I had the displeasure of stopping by the Side Street Cafe this past Saturday evening, 21 May 2006. Patrick, the chef/ownwer was rude and obnoxious. He asked us if we had reservations and when we said, ""no, we just heard the music,"" he went into a condescending ""buh-bye, no really, buh bye."" Thinking he was kidding we continued to watch the band. He then proceeds to tell us to move off to the side because we were blocking the view of a table behind us. I told my girfriend the guy was terribly rude. Apparently, Patrick is a great eavesdropper because he then says to me, ""Simmer down Bubba."" I certainly hope the food is good. Even if it is, his manners are inexcusable. Other restaurants exist that treat people well and serve great food. Side Stree Cafe is not one of them. Cons: rude service more
