Does not disappoint 8/7/2009

Amazing barbecued shrimp, oysters and shrimp pasta. I have never ordered anything I didn't like at this restaurant. It is a Louisiana legend for good reason. The servers are friendly, and the food is authentic Louisiana cuisine. Pros: Great food, great service more

Pascal's Manale Restaurant is disappointment 7/14/2009

We were so disappointed. We had just seen this restaurant on The Best I Ever Ate on Food Network before our trip. It was awful. We both had the BBQ Shrimp of course. The shrimp was mushy and three of them had that opaque color around the edges indicating they were not fully cook. It was really bland, not at all spicy. Definitely not worth the price. Also, watch your bill. An extra 5 dollars was added to the tip. Sadly I cannot find the receipt so I can't nail them on it. I would never tip 25% for such a crappy meal. more

Famous but the food's not that great. 4/18/2009

I should have ordered the famous barbecue shrimp, so I won't be too hard on Pascal Manale. But the fish and pasta I ordered were terribly bland. Pros: Cool atmosphere Cons: Expensive - food not flavorful more

don't waste your time 3/28/2009

I live in New Orleans and I won't waste my time at this restaurant. There is nothing special about the food and the owners blatent disregard for the guest is the only thing that sets them apart. It's New Orleans - there's no shortage of places to get oysters and BBQ shrimp (think Mr. B's) and there's also no shortage of great restaurants that know how to treat their customers. The service is truly horrible and the owners and managers could care less. Mark this off your list. Pros: bartenders and Thomas the oyster shucker Cons: service and owners more

BBQ shrimp 11/6/2008

Pascal Manale's is known for their BBQ shrimp. The sauce is delicious. The only downside is you have to peel it all yourself. The oyster bar always has fresh oysters and sauces you can try as well. I've also had the spaghetti here, and everything tastes wonderful. more

It's all about the oysters, baby! 7/29/2005

Louisiana oysters are the name of the game, and the man you want to see is Thomas. Bob and Mark, the owners, know where to get the best, tastiest, freshest oysters around and Thomas serves them up with giant slice of larger-than-life, southern hospitality at it's finest. He's got the best stories and he takes care of you, so remember to take care of him. Weather you like 'em small or big he'll hook you up. They also grill these tasty shelled morsels a-la bienville or rockafella'. Not to mention the barbecued shrimp... Pros: safe, guarded parking, great ambiance more

AWESOME ! 3/14/2005

This is one of the best restaurants you will ever eat at......the history to this place is amazing. more

FUN FUN FUN!!!! 7/29/2002

This is absoultly my favorite restaurant in N.O. The only problem I have is that I get full before I can eat all that I want to eat. We always start with raw oysters from the oyster bar, which is a blast!!! Then if the place is really packed, we order another drink and stand around to visit with friends. We all have our favorites. Mine is to start out with Escargo, then the Greek Salad (which I share with my husband), then the best in the world Barbque Shrimp!!!! If you are not just about to POP, try the pecan pie for desert. I have told many of my friends about this restaurant and now they also go there whenever they are in town. more

LOVE IT OR HATE IT... 7/22/2002

On our first trip to this restaurant we had a 2 year old in tow, and they were obviously not anxious to seat us, and we eventually left. I was stilll curious because it is an intriguing place. So against my firm principals on not rewarding poor service, I have returned twice on subsequent visits, and quite enjoyed it. No - the ""barbequed"" shrimp are not smothered in BBQ sauce, and the ""heads on"" presentation might be intimidating and possibly unappetizing to someone who did not realize that shrimp actually have heads (and eyes, and long long whiskers). This place is not a culinary superstar, but is a completely worthwhile and enjoyable experience. more

Home Of The Original BBQ Shrimp and Oyster Bar

Owner Message
  • This vintage Uptown standby has been serving its famous New Orleans Barbeque Shrimp since 1913, in a casual ambiance with paper-covered tables and French bread in brown bags. The shrimp are not actually barbequed, but cooked in a delectable, peppery butter sauce. Sit down and strap on a bib; the mess will be worth it. If you prefer oysters over shrimp, take a seat at Pascal s oyster bar in the front of the restaurant, where a friendly shucker will provide as many mollusks as you can muster an appetite for..
