My Cat Adoption 8/23/2010

I adopted my cat (approx. 4-5 yrs. old at the time) in Dec. 2008 at PHS. Maria assisted me and she was nice and friendly. I looked at 2 cats that were not for me. She then asked me what type of cat I was looking for. I told her and then she brought me this long haired orange tabby mix. When she saw the interaction between us she said this is your cat. We have both been very happy ever since and she was right! His name is Bailey and he is such a love! I would recommend this shelter but not sure about anyone else other then Maria who was great! more

Condescending staff with holier-than-thou attitude 3/4/2009

There are so many dogs and cats in need of adoption, but from the way you're treated by the PHS staff, you'd think that these animals were as rare as blue diamonds. I came here looking for a dog, and was turned down simply because my sister, who I live with, owns a miniature pinscher, and the staff felt that this dog wouldn't do well with another addition to the home. Did I mention they never even met the miniature pinscher? There are so many shelters in Los Angeles and hundreds of animals that need your help. Might as well go somewhere where the staff understands that the purpose of a shelter is to get the animals adopted! more

looking out for the animals... 7/4/2006

When I was interested in adopting a cat, a coworker of mine told me that going to the Humane Society was to hard because of the application process. I went against her advice and had a very nice experience. Rightfully, they are protective and make sure that the animals go to good homes. I am SHOCKED at the number of pets that I saw who had been returned for silly reasons "had to move" "boyfriend doesn't like him". I adopted Pumpkin, a Siamese mix who is one of the BEST pets I've ever had. He was very sick when we adopted, but the humane society was 100% upfront with the medical care he would need. (I could have picked a Healthy cat, but he was too cute). 3 years later, I can't ever imagine bringing my pumpkin back.... more

The people who work here are so kind. 11/6/2005

We've adopted a cat, had one vaccinated and "snipped", and unfortunately had to have one put down. Not only are they way less than the vet (ie. vaccines and neutering were $30),they are so kind and everyone there loves animals There was a two month waiting list for getting the cat fixed so call ahead. If you're looking for a good place to donate money, here it is. more

great place to find your new best friend 10/22/2005

I have adopted one dog and two kittens from the humane society and they were some of the best pets I've ever had. They do a full on interview to make sure you're compatible with the animal, and will even have you bring in any other pets you may have. The staff is very caring and want to help all the animals they have. You're unable to adopt pit bulls, and I believe they have started a restriction on chow dog adoptions. more

The best humane society 8/21/2005

Great place to adopt dogs, cats, and bunnies and help keep the population down. They really do care about the animals. They screen and interview everybody in the family and ask if you live rent/own an apartment, condo, or house to make sure everything will get along and last. They also do spay/neuter and microchip. more
