Physical Therapy at Park Sports 6/22/2011

Several years ago, I went to Boris Gilzon's Park Sports for a knee injury. I was impressed by the attention and care I received and, most of all, by the fact that I recovered and was able to dance again. I recently sustained another injury and went to a different place for therapy. That was a huge mistake--after a few sessions, the 'weight training' I did there resulted in another injury! I switched back to Park Sports and am now strenghtening and stretching--safely--under the watchful eye of Yolanda. The therapists at Park Sports listen and know how to tailor a program to individual needs. Having had the opportunity to compare facilities, it is obvious to me now that the skilled therapists know exactly how to pace a routine from session to session to ensure steady progress. Patients are also given at-home exercise instructions in the form of sketches and written descriptions. I have found this to be invaluable. Further, the Park Sports facilities on Garfield Pace and 6th Ave. are extremely pleasant and clean. I have no reservations whatsoever in recommending Park Sports Physical Therapy! Don't make the mistake I did by going elsewhere and risking further injury. more

Excellent Physical Therapy 4/17/2011

First went to Boris with right shoulder rotator cuff injury. Through his guidance I was able to avoid surgery. A few years later I went to Svetlana to deal with rotator cuff injury on right shoulder. No surgery. (Always work with your physician.) In both cases I regained full mobility and no pain. Specialist diagnosed herniated disk and said I would have pain in my legs for the rest of my life. Working with Svetlana I am strengthening back, abdomen and leg muscles and the pain has decreased by a third to a half. Can sleep without Advil PM now. I recommend this comfortable, friendly and very professional place. more

Skilled, Compassionate Practice 4/25/2010

I became a patient at Park Sports Physical Therapy after being hit by a car resulting in several injuries including 2 fractures on the same wrist. I chose Park Sports because they are a hand rehabilitation practice as well as a general physical therapy practice. Boris (Gilzon) is not only a talented orthopedic physical therapist, but a gifted certified hand therapist as well. Pros: High caliber therapists, in a relaxed environment more

I'll be up and running soon! 4/17/2010

I tore an MCL playing soccer and now thanks to Svetlana I'm back on my bike and looking forward to playing soon. Also, thanks to Svetlana for not letting me get back out there too soon, because I've definitely pestered her about it pretty much every week for a month. But her persistance has trumped my impatience and my knee will be thanking her for the rest of my life. Awesome! Pros: Super friendly, relaxed environment and professional Cons: Parking in Park Slope is pretty rough more

great experience 4/14/2010

For the last 5 months, Svetlana Lazarev has been helping me with my rehabilitation following ACL replacement surgery on my right knee. I chose Park Sports PT because of their approach - very yoga/pilates oriented, with a focus on strength with flexibility - a big change from my previous gym/machine-oriented PT experiences. Svetlana has been a huge part of my recovery. It began with simple, straightforward exercises that were easy to learn, and easy to do on my own. She put a real emphasis on technique, and how moving even fractions of an inch could make exercises far more effective. As I got stronger, and those exercises became easy, she made them more complicated, and more challenging. I took those exercises as homework to take with me to the gym as part of my rehab. It made a huge difference. During the later stages, she's helped me diagnose issues I was having on my own (e.g. yoga poses, problems with my running technique), and provide me with excellent improvements to my form. During the entire process, she always pushed me, never let me slack, and did it with a sense of humor the entire time. She's a total pro, and a fantastic physical therapist. Pros: great staff, enjoyable approach, location more

Extremely helpful 4/7/2010

When I arrived at Park Sports a year ago, I was in excruciating pain, could barely walk and was facing two total hip replacements. All the physical therapists here, especially Sveltlana Lazarev and Boris Gilzon, helped me both prepare and recover from the surgeries. Not just physicallly, but emotionally. The second surgery was even harder to go through than the first and I really don't think I could have done it without encouragement from the people who work here. They have been very focused on my unique situation, constantly assessing which part of my body needs to be strengthened, which set of muscles need to be stretched, always coming up with creative ideas to fix my myriad aches and pains. Although I've been taught exercises to do at home, I benefit from the personal attention and discipline. (Also, the office is in a peaceful part of Park Slope and a pleasure to visit.) At times the exercises can be grueling but I know if they did not push me I would not be where I am today: almost pain free, stronger and much more fit than I was a year ago. I still have a ways to go but I feel confident knowing I have la creme de la creme when it comes to physical therapists. Pros: Smart, skilled and friendly staff more

Avoid 3/18/2010

This place is about insurance, not care. Visits include- being shown some stretches and told to do in corner, pretty much unsupervised, slap some heat on for 10 minutes and maybe hook you up for some electro stimulation for another 10 minutes....next... Pros: nice front desk...furniture pleasing to the eye Cons: another PT insurance mill more

My Park Sports Experience 5/13/2008

Four years ago I experienced severe lower back pain. The pain was debilitating. Diagnostic imaging confirmed that I had several herniated discs in my lumbar spine. I was advised to pursue conservative treatment. One recommendation was to start physical therapy. I contacted a close friend for a recommendation. My friend had sustained a physical injury and was seeing a physical therapist. Upon hearing of my condition she exclaimed, ?You have to see Boris. If anyone can help you it is him.? I immediately contacted Boris Gilzon. more

Skilled and sympathetic 4/4/2008

I guess it has to do with getting older, but in the last couple of years I've had more ailments than I could shake a stick at. Which is exactly what I'd like to do to many of the medical personnel this has brought me to. A very happy exception are the the skilled and experienced people at Park Sports (along with my GP, about whom I am also going to write a glowing review). Pros: Experienced, very knowledgeable Cons: Manhattan office would be nice. more

Excellent care 3/31/2008

I am now undergoing therapy for my third fracture. I have returned to Park Sports physical therapy because of their professionalism and caring. I am a doctor. I teach residents in training in Manhattan and have a private practice in Staten Island. I am extremely sensitive to people measuring health care according to its address. I attended 2 other facilities before finding Park Sports. One was in Manhattan on 34th St and the other was in Brooklyn. Neither of them approached the level of care I have received at Park Sports. I think that I am more critical than the average consumer by nature and being a physician I expect a higher standard of care. Boris and Svetlana will give you all the time that you need. I have been going there since 2003 and have never been rushed. I jokingly refer to their facility occasionally as ""The Spa"". It is comforting and inviting. Privacy is maintained and they are sensitive to personal likes and dislikes. You can even choose your own mood music. Because of their interests in competitive sports training as well as dance and pilates they use a lot of innovative methods to acheive your goals besides the routine exercises. I heartily recommend Park Sports Physical therapy. Pros: individualized attention Cons: parking but they are close to the subway and bus lines more

Better off going into Manhattan for Physical Therapy. Lousy service. 3/27/2008

I can sum it up by saying, you get what you pay for. I initially chose Park Sports because they had the lowest consultation fee - $130 as opposed to $180/$200 in Manhattan. At the time I booked my appointment I didn't have health insurance. I was seeking physical therapy because of a running related knee injury. I can't say much of the facilities like the last reviewer commented, as my appointment was at their 6th Avenue/21st St location. It was pretty run down, nothing like the office featured on their website. Equipment looked dated. I met with Boris who accurately diagnosed my problem. And then I was off to do exercises. He stayed with me for about 2/3rds of the time I was there, while simultaneously working with another patient. I wasn't receiving the individual care that I'm accustomed to receiving with prior physical therapists I worked with. At the end of my session, my knees were iced and plugged into an electrical impulse machine. Some other person unplugged me, not Boris. And then I was left to fend for myself. Boris never checked in on me. I had to find him and ask him if we were done/through? Pros: If you live next door, this is conveneint for you. Cons: Service, Care, Facilities. more

Professional, Knowledgable, Highly recommended Practise 10/15/2007

I fractured my ankle and attended Park Sports Physical therapy after the cast was removed. Both Boris and Svetlana treated me. Both were incredibly professional and got me back on feet really quickly. Sure, they may have given me some exercises to complete on my own but they were great exercises and I didnt feel the need to be babysat for each entire exercise - a personal trainer costs $85 per hour and you get none back on insurance - for therapy I just had to pay my copay. I felt I was in extremely knowledgeable hands and would recommend it to anyone who needs therapy - by the way it is a lovely office and they have a Pilates reformer which I did some great ankle exercises on! Pros: Nice space great therapists Cons: difficult parking more
