Not worth the price..... 1/1/2009

I was very disappointed in the new Papago Golf course. I was told that it would remind me of what it was like 30 years ago. Not hardly! They have removed all of the golf ball cleaning stations. This would be okay if they had them on the carts. They took out all of the drinking fountains. The only water available is the bottles that you must purchase. They removed way to many trees. There was no sand seed mix provided to repair your divots. The greens were brown, although they played OK. Just not very nice looking. All in all this course is not worth the $99 + tax that you have to pay to play it. Aguilla is a much better course and is far less expensive. more

Best public course 7/8/2002

Papago is hands-down the best public course in Phoenix. Challenging holes, solid fairways and greens and plenty of hazards to keep even the best golfers second-guessing their club selection. As an added bonus, many golfers choose to walk instead of riding in the cart, making for a much more exhilarating round. Pros: Great staff more

A tough test of golf 5/24/2002

Papago is a course that is obviously past its prime. It would not be advised to play the ball down here. The layout is world class. With every possible challenge facing you it is essential that you bring your A game. This is the most difficult muni in the valley but you won't be begging your playing partners for a few shag balls before the turn. Lots of desert will penalize you but your ball will be easily visible among the cacti and rock that line the fairways. To play well at Papago you will have to hit it as long and as straight as you ever have. You will have to hit your irons with precision accuracy. You will have to putt like a seasoned professional with ice running through his veins. If you want to see how you stack up against truely great players check out Papago. Pros: Very Challenging, Must hit every club, Good Greens Cons: Fairways more
