Pretentious, Pricey and simply Not Worth It. 4/1/2008

Elbow-to-elbow seating, coupled with 30 minute waits for app's are surpassed only by the unappetizing food and long waits to get it on your table.\r \r Pass on this and go to any other Italian Resturant in Boston. Pros: They let you leave after you pay Cons: They let you in more

our new favorite 12/11/2007

Paolo's is definitely a candidate for destination dining. There are lots of reason to check out this welcoming spot -- like us, you might stop because the parking is so much easier than the North End, but the food will have you coming back. It's imaginative Italian, without being pretentious. Don't fill up on the bread, even though they bake their own and it's amazing. Save some room for the appetizers and entrees. I've sampled the chicken dishes, and they are flavorful, but you can't get me to switch from the seafood. I'm conscientiously trying all the dishes they put on the menu. Specials are a treat. (If you are there on a night when paella is on, it's worth a splurge.) They also make their own desserts, including a scrumptious bread pudding concocted from that incredible bread. If you have to wait for a table, it's worth it -- and the bar is cozy and friendly, so waiting is painless. I'd also recommend ordering one of their interesting pizzas to take home for the next day. I'm tempted to keep Paolo's a secret, but they are doing a great job and deserve to be a Metro Boston favorite. Pros: homemade bread and desserts; serious, interesting menu from entrees to pizza more

Charlestown's Shining Star 11/2/2007

Paolo's Trattoria - \r What a find!! Right on Main Street in Charlestown, who knew?!! I had the most delectable meal - salmon with polenta. The salmon was light and delicious, polenta - creamy and seasoned to perfection! Super service - staff - warm and friendly - atmosphere - very cozy . Best bread too - bake their own daily....so delicious (all natural - no preservatives), we took some home! Absolutely a 5 Star rating!!!! more

Excellent! 7/5/2007

Fresh and delicious. This cozy trattoria, under new ownership since early 2007, is a hidden gem. I had not been to this local spot in several years and was thoroughly impressed by the dedication of the entire staff and ownership to make this a great experience - a delicous meal, warm and friendly waitstaff, and comfortable atmoshere. A perfect place to go with friends or alone. There's a nice bar with TV to hang out and watch the game. more

Great Service 7/10/2005

The service was great the waitress was outstanding, but the food was lacking! I had the chicken parm. with pasta and the serving size of the chicken was huge but lacking in flavor it was fried and smothered in sauce that was it, the pasta was lacking in portion very small. Pros: Great Service, good decor, great prices Cons: food lack`s flavor more

Pretty & Romantic... 2/14/2005

But Valentine's Day is not the best time to try a new restaurant. Seated at 7pm on this romantic evening, we were eating by 7:20 and out by 8pm. The food was good, menu was small due to the holiday but dishes were tasty. Lobster fra diavolo was chock full of lobster and casear salad was HUGE. Prices were high but it was V-Day. The regular menu looked great and we will try again on a regular evening. Pros: friendly service, street parking, pretty Cons: rushed more

Located in charlestown i had always wanted to try it but never had. It has unbelievable food, service, and quality, the best seafood fra diavlo in boston. more

you have to try it.. 8/16/2002

A friend raved about this place, so i figured i'd try it out... It ended up being one of the best meals that i ahve had in a long, long time... I got the beef tenderloin (special) and it comparable to the capital grille, but w/out the price tag attached. everyone else that i dined with loved their meals as well. I hgihly recommend this place. more

Paolo's Plus 6/27/2002

I used to live right next store and made it a weekly stop before moving out of Charlestown. The only thing lacking is the service, but honestly it is not bad enough to notice outright. I recommend sitting at the bar seating one time, there you can talk and watch the chef/owner do his thing...and without a Todd English attitude... more
