LOVE PANCHOS!!! :-) 5/20/2011

I LOVE Panchos!!!! One of my favorite, regular go-to places. \r \r It is consistant, no matter how crowded it gets, and it does get crowded, but worth the wait--no big deal since we hang out at the bar and begin with a pitcher of peach sangria which is DELICIOUS!!!! I have turned many people on to it that don't even like sangria. Order a pitcher because after a glass you will just keep wanting more! \r \r Ok..back to consistant...first are the chips and salsa (to be eaten with the peach sangria, no doubt!) The chips are warm and the salsa is outrageous--perfect amounts of cilantro and spices--I always ask for 2 bowls b/c I always add hot sauce to mine b/c I like mine very spicy. You can get full just on that alone...but...there is plenty to choose from on the menu--even for me and I'm vegetarian. The food is good, fresh and plentiful. No matter what you order you will be happy. And no matter how crowded it gets you are never rushed and the food quality and presentation are always the same.\r \r We usually never order dessert, but friends tried the new mini desserts and RAVED about them. I tried the fried ice cream once and would order it again--if I ever had room for dessert after the drinks, chips, dinner. more

Good food, bad manners 5/4/2010

Recently, I walked into Pancho’s Cantina with some friends for dinner. While we were waiting to be seated we looked over the crayon drawings covering the walls. The drawings were quite disturbing. They were of the Twin Tower, which could have been a nice tribute, but they were graphically violent. I thought it was a bit distasteful to see guns and knives and bullets going through men’s head’s with blood coming out the other side. I also thought it was a bit worrisome to see these drawings were clearly meant to represent Muslim men; they were wearing turbans. I hoped that they were meant specifically to be Osama Bin Laden. Although I am not a revengeful person and hate to think of children depicting such violent scenes of vengeance and brutality, I had some measure of understanding that this is a tragedy that we went through as a country which is difficult to come to terms with. Aside from the fact that I think there are better ways to deal with it than drawing bloody cartoons all over the walls 9 years later, I was horrified when I saw a sentence scrawled out in crayon: “damn towel heads”. I gasped. My friends pointed out to me that the drawings and words were probably the work of adults; not children. It hadn’t occurred to me, but seemed correct. We immediately left. We would never give our business to a company we knew to depict racist and hateful images and words. I could only imagine how discomforting and threatening such a sight would be to a Muslim family if they came in for some good Southwestern food. Poncho’s will never receive business from me or anyone I know if this is not amended. I imagine that others feel the same way and I hope they have written too to show their displeasure. Alienating a portion of your consumers and offending a portion of the human race is no way to conduct business and I am appalled it was allowed to happen. Pros: Good Sampler of Buffalo-wings, etc Cons: Offensive Wall-drawings more

I've been going to Pancho's since around 1980 (when I was in Jr high school) when it was in Cedarhurst and you ordered at the counter. The food is consistent since than EXCELLENT!!! When they moved to Oceanside I followed and now in Island Park. Almost 3 decades later the food is consistent and the management as well!!! The Chips And Salsa 7/18/2004

This place has the greatest chips and salsa I have ver had in my life. I live all the way in west babylon but will make a trip to island park just to go to panchos. The way they heat up the chips and oh, the SALSA. 4 people can easily go through 7 bowls. It is simply irresistable. I also enjoy the brown paper table cloths which you can draw on using the crayons they provide you with. A great way to close the gaps between waiting for your food and if you draw a good picture they might paste it on the wall. Overall it is a great little place with a lot of energy and great service including the cute hostesses ""I just graduated High school"". The foods awesome too! You won't be upset if you go to Panchos cantina, I guaranteee it!!! Pros: Fun, Always a short wait, Great food Cons: , running out of salsa, leaving too full more
