Avoid Insurance Underwriters at all costs if possible. Their level of incompetence is astounding, and in the current state of insurance markets in New Orleans, should be criminal. I agreed to using the firm after being lied to about the fact that the existing homeowners insurance policy could be transferred when I purchased the house. We discovered that claim was not true 6 weeks later when we were 1 week before our scheduled closing date. The paperwork for the new policy was then filed incorrectly, and I was repeatedly lied to about the steps taken for another 5 weeks until I was able to prove, after more than 10 hours of phone calls, that what they were claiming to have done was never completed. After having my closing delayed by a month, I ended up with a policy that started a month before I actually owned the house & never could get my agent to correct it - ultimately costing me approx $375 in insurance premiums. After having received more than 20 notices related to my policy being cancelled and reinstated because the checks from the insurance company kept coming back NSF, we discovered 4 months later that the policy was not quoted correctly and I still owed $750 more than the amount paid at closing. I attempted to get my agent at Insurance Underwriters to help rectify the problem, but eventually they refused to return my calls so I ended up having to go to the LA Citizens' office to pay the bill so that the insurance would not get cancelled. After 8 months of problems, $375 in wasted fees, and 40+ hours of phone calls, I finally ended up transferring the policy to another agent.
