Okay... but 11/19/2011

The chips were perfect - never had better. Good for someone missing his momma's cooking. Wholesome food and good portions. However, restaurant food should be more special than momma's (sorry, mom). The salsa was average. The taco meat was hardly seasoned. The beans didn't taste like a Mexican restaurant but like beans you would just cook up. The sopapillas were served with the meal instead of hot for desert. I'm sure there's much more to experience in New Mexico restaurants but we were traveling through and stopped at Padilla's based on reviews and on convenience of I-25/I-40 intersection. If you're traveling through Tulsa go to Senor Tequila's on 71st Street a few blocks east of Sheridan. It's fresh, it's delicious. Ask for the picosa salsa and put it on your tacos. WOW! Feel those little sweat beads form below your eyes. more

Addictive New Mexican food. 6/21/2009

This is New Mexican cuisine which is very different from Mexican food. The food has lower fat and less seasoning. The result is a delightful menu that you can eat from everyday. It's a place where the staff will take the babies from the regulars and show them to the other workers. It's a very casual and friendly atmosphere. Pros: Low fat food, great service, great prices Cons: No weekend service, closes too early. more

Disappointed I think 5/19/2009

The quality of the meat was very low. The taco meat had some sort of filler in it, potatoes I think. Really not very good at all. The chicken was all dark pulled rooster meat. Also not very appetizing. It really seems that this is another eatery that has established its customer base and really isn't trying anymore. I would have to concede that it's at least as good as Taco Bell. But, if you're really in the mood for cheap tacos, go to Del Taco and enjoy yourself. Pros: Cheap Cons: Low quality food more

Say cheese! 3/4/2009

Sadie's has nothing on this place! The chile is solo good! The tamales are out of this world! To top it off, this is the only place you can get quelites like mama used to make. more

Supposed to be friendly restaurant! Not friendly and tight with refills!! 2/20/2009

'' I ate at Padilla's restaurant a few times but i don't anymore. I had one and a half refills on soda and on \r that last half, Mrs. Padilla practically threw it on the table and complained to one of her employees that there\r were four glasses on the table for two people. So, I let her know that we did not need a new glass every time we wanted a refill on soda. The same glass would have been fine. So, it was not our fault that there were four glasses on the table. If she is going to treat her customers that way, I will eat Mexican food somewhere else.\r If I have to, i will just make my own food at home. I have plenty of food at home! One star = NOT RECOMMENDED! more

What is the hype all about? 5/19/2008

I'm beginning to think that New Mexicans do not know what real food is.\r \r I get the impression that whoever owns this restaurant is a white man in his sixties. Certainly most of the patrons were, and so was the hostess. Overall, this is Mexican food? First off, there was not a huge selection. The atmosphere is real lame because it looks like an old diner you'd find out in Texas. The chips tasted like they came out of a bag, but the salsa was okay.\r \r I ordered the chicken and bean burrito. Bland. Big hunks of non-grilled chicken meat thrown in there. I ordered it with half and half red and green chili. This added a little flavor to the burrito.\r \r Low prices and good service however. Not recommended overall. Pros: good service, cheap Cons: bad food, long wait, overhyped more

Still the best NM food in Albuquerque! 3/19/2008

My family says, ?If you want quantity, go to Los Cuates, but if you want quality, go to Padilla's!? For real New Mexican food for a fair price, Padilla's is still the best in Albuquerque. The portions are just right, and the red chile and the sopapillas are terrific. This is where locals like me go for the kind of New-Mexican, home-style cooking that I used to eat at my abuela's or at my tia's house before they recently passed away. I?ve been a New Mexican all my life, but I find that it's difficult to find authentic New Mexican food--even in New Mexico, because there are so many places that try to please the tourists (no offense to our visitors to the Land of Enchantment). If you want a fancy Mexican place, you won?t find it at Padilla?s, but if you?re the sort of person that likes to eat good food and feel at home while you?re eating, you?ll enjoy Padilla?s. Happy eating! Pros: authentic New Mexican food more

WHAT A BUNCH OF BALONEY! 4/7/2007

Now being from NM (my family's been here for hundreds of years) I have eaten New Mexican food most of my life - I've travelled South and eaten traditional Mexican food too. This is NOT the real deal. The chile is weird, and the place looks like a cheap motel room (sorry - the people there seem nice) But looks (and hype) can be deceiving. Spend your money at Mary & Tito's or Los Cuates or heck - even in old town if you want the real deal. This place does not represent the heart-warming goodness of New Mexico. The younger generation be warned - this is just an empty & imposterous 'quick fix' for that craving for the good ol' New Mexican meal that you got at home. Don't be charmed out of your honest, hard-earned money! Cons: yes more

NEW Mexican, not Mexican - WONDERFUL 11/12/2005

This is, without a doubt, the best NEW Mexican restaurant in the city of Albuququerque. It is *not* mexican -- for those of you who don't know the difference -- go and find out! Mouth-melting food and a fun ambience. more

ALBUQUERQUE BEST 6/18/2004

THE FOOD AND SERVICE IS EXCELLENT. THE FOOD JUST MELTS INTO YOUR MOUTH, YOU GO LEAVING GREAT. NEXT TO LA SALITA'S IT'S ONE OF MY FAVORITES. Pros: , FOOD more

Overhyped 5/18/2004

I went to this restaurant on a Wednesday night, and yes, it was crowded. I decided to just get the Carne Adovada Burrito Dinner to go. I'd have to say that it was just average, or even below average, especially for being in the heart of Albuquerque. It's apparent that this restaurant caters to the ""American"" palate. In other words, it wasn't authentic (I should have have known based on the clientelle). If you like Americanized New Mexican food, you'll probably like this restaurant. Otherwise, you'll be disappointed. Pros: Fast Service (to go), Ample Parking Lot Cons: , Crowded more

Definitely a favorite !!! 3/17/2004

If you didn't know about this place, you would unfortunately pass it right by. Maybe the cars packing the parking lot would be a tip-off ! The food here is real Mom & Pop authentic stuff. The service is good, but the lunch crowd lines are very long and snake around the restaurant alongside the tables. However, it is worth the wait. They make the best sop's in ABQ. Pros: great food, great sopapillas, good service more

The Best! What else can be said?! 2/7/2003

Consistent quality! I can always depend on getting wonderful food at Padilla's. THe quality is always dependable--even though the food isn't terribly spicy, it is well prepared, and very tasty. A great family restaurant! Pros: FODD IS GREAT Cons: The wait for a table! more

True Opinion 10/7/2002

The restaurant was an average dive. I believe in order to have a good mexican restaurant, it needs to at least have fresh chips. Our chips were stale and tasted store bought. Additionally, the salsa was pasty. The restaurant was small and not much spice. Pros: Inexpensive Cons: Stale Chips, Pasty Salsa, Not spicy more

Beat the Crowd 9/24/2002

Have no idea when you can go when this restaurant isn't busy, so be prepared for a wait. But the food is excellent, and the service has been the best. The waiters are attentive, but busy and efficient. Pros: great food, excellent service Cons: the wait more

Fabulous 6/6/2002

Padilla's is the best. Friendly wait staff, clean, prompt and delicious. more
