Editorial review from Citysearch 1/3/2014

K Walsh has changed my life. My thinning hair had reached the point that people were asking me whether I was undergoing Chemo treatments. Although PK Walsh treats them also, that was not my motivation.\r \r As someone who is active with her own consulting and training company, I MUST look professional. That doesn't mean young; it doesn't mean thin; it doesn't even mean gorgeous! It means -- professional with an appropriate image - and that includes...HAIR!!\r \r With a combination of warmth and expertise, PK Walsh introduced me to a number of options that have literally transformed my image and, quite frankly, makes me look 20 years younger although that was not my objective.\r \r If you think that weaves and extensions of lightweight inserts of hair are anything like our mothers' options - think again.\r \r This place is great! And I'm grateful to my stylist - Kayleen and to Kathy and Nikki who inspire me every time I go there.\r \r Please - if you're like I was - avoiding the mirror and frequently embarrassed - go to this Salon. I really regret not having found them sooner than last year.\r \r DO IT!!\r \r Deli-kins\r more

pk walsh is the best 4/19/2012

Going ot Pk Walsh has had a hugh positive impact on my life. Being a professional woman with thinning hair can be devastating. All of the people at PK make you feel very comfortable and they provide great services and products to choose from. When you buy a piece or wig from PK no one would ever know it is not totally your own hair. I would recommend PK Walsh to any woman that is expereincing hair loss. I don't think there is a better company out there for women with hair loss than PK Walsh. Randy more

You won't find a better place. 3/10/2012

I have been a customer of PK Walsh for almost 10 years and they are top notch in my book. I'll grant that they are not inexpensive but, in my opinion, you more than get your money's worth. The personal touch they provide in every aspect of their business is wonderful. Hair loss is such a sensitive issue for women but they do a terrific job making you feel comfortable and confident. I highly recommend any woman who has concerns about hair loss meet with then for an honest and upfront appraisal of your needs. more

1st time clients 2/14/2012

The idea of coming to PKW started with my Mother who was very self-conscious of her thinning hair. Watching Nikki exhibit such patience and kindness in discussing my Mother's options, that I, too, became excited over the possibility of having ""hair"" again. It had been over 30 yrs. since my own hair had become very thin due to illness and chemo. Thus, the appt. for one quickly turned into an appt. for two. I LOVE my wig. I love the softness, the colour, the style, the comfort and most of all for making me feel beautiful. My Mother is 84. We are both 1st time clients and couldn't be happier with our hair solutions. THANK YOU, PKW for a wonderful experience and for giving us the gift of feeling beautiful. PK isn't just a company that offers hair solutions, it's a place where one visits and leaves feeling ""complete."" PS: Rachael ""Rocks!!"" as does the entire PKW team. more

25 year relationship 2/11/2012

I discovered PK Walsh back in 1985 and have been a consistent customer ever since. Obviously, there have been many changes through the years in my hair loss status and my own personal needs. Kathy and Nikki have been there for me throughout, adapting to these changes and helping me overcome the concerns created by alopecia. Their solutions have evolved and their current selection is superior. I have received many compliments from friends and colleagues. I feel they have been very reasonable with their pricing. And, perhaps most of all, Kathy, Nikki and everyone I've deal with at PK have been very considerate and supportive over the years. I don't know what I would have done without them. more

Caring and friendly people 12/15/2011

I had a great experience at PK Walsh, Kathy and Jen were so helpfull. I've been going there for a while and was very satisfied. Kathy cares about how you feel and she was very helpfull and took the time to point me in the right direction, she took the time to talk with you and made sure that you got the correct piece. Kathy went out of her way to help me on a one to one sit down and made sure I was happy. Its a great place to go with wonderful staff people to make sure that your happy. more

Kathy walked in the room and I knew I would be ok. 6/29/2011

When I first called I asked if there was an appointment available for today. I was told there was a short appointment. I took the appointment. I was very nervous about the experience until Kathy walked in the room. Kathy greeted me with a smile and assured me she would take care of my needs. The first wig Kathy placed on my head was perfect. It was so natural. I was on a strict budget. My friends gave me money for this as a birthday gift. I was a bit short and Kathy said please don't worry we will work it out. I want you to feel good about yourself. Kathy you are the BEST. Thank you so much. You are a miracle worker more

PK Walsh Changed My Life! 4/12/2011

The products are amazing. I have been to other places and PK hands down are the best at what they do. If you suffer from any hair loss issue PK is the place for you. Nikki, Kathy and the rest of the staff are so wonderful. They make you feel comfortable and especially BEAUTIFUL when you leave. more

My support group 3/27/2011

The loss of hair for a woman is a very emotional event but it helps to keep that emotion in check while making decisions about solutions. It’s all too easy to spend money on the wrong things. After checking out many other places, I knew what I was looking for when I arrived at the doorstep of PK Walsh. I wanted to know my options, the advantages and disadvantages of each, and I did not want any pressure to purchase. This is just what I found at PK. With a little trial and error, we came up with the best approach for me. I whole heartedly agree with the other positive reviews - the pieces are high quality and the service is very professional and supportive. It’s a huge bonus to clients that some of the women working there also have hair loss and wear hair pieces. That firsthand experience makes all the difference when advising women on the nuances involved in this process. PK feels like the support group I was missing. I am very grateful for this place. more

My big Secret! 3/15/2011

I have been a client of P K Walsh for many years. My hair started to thin when I was in my early 20's and after exhausting all avenues, my hair stylist suggested P K. After my consultation and sampling hair pieces, I made the best purchase of my life. Having thinning hair plays a major part in your life, employers discriminate, friends make hurtful jokes, and forget about dates. So for years, this has been my best kept secret, as no one can tell it's a piece and when I told a friend, she couldn't believe it and made an appt. at P K'S asap, as she lost hair due to a huge weight loss. My experience with the staff has been great, they work with you to make payments and try to assist you in any way possible. I just purchased my second piece and love it....... more

Gone today, hair tomorrow 2/18/2011

Having just returned from a visit to PK Walsh, I wanted to share my experience of being a client of theirs for almost 20 years. They changed my life! I first noticed signs of thinning hair back in my 20's and tried to hide it by wearing headbands and creating modified comb-overs (who was I kidding?). When that stopped working, I went to visit PK Walsh. I was immediately struck by the level of sensitivity, caring and lack of pushiness. I never felt pressured to become a client. In fact, I felt like I was just having a conversation about my hair loss with a friend. Talking about my needs and lifestyle helped us to determine what would work best for me. Over my 20 years with PK Walsh, I have worn many different hair pieces. Since many of the staff at PK Walsh ""wear hair"", they understand the importance of wearing a hair piece that is natural-looking. If a piece came in that was not up to PK Walsh standards (and that is extremely high), they addressed and corrected the issue immediately, without any cost to me. I don't go around telling people that I wear a hair piece, but if I choose to share that with someone, I am always delighted to see their shock and to hear them say that they would never have thought it wasn't my own, natural hair. The PK Walsh salon, itself, is a pleasure to visit. The staff are warm and welcoming and the hair stylists are extremely talented. Since hair loss, especially for women, is a sensitive issue, PK Walsh offers private styling rooms. I can't say enough good things about PK Walsh and recommend it highly to anyone who is experiencing hair loss/thinning hair. more

Great Experience 1/26/2011

I went to PK Walsh when I noticed my hair beginning to thin. Being a women, it's not accepted as much as a man who's losing their hair. Most men just shave their head. I wasn't about to do that. I met with Nikki Walsh and she really took the time to ask important questions. She educated me on various products i could use to help. I liked the fact that she wasn't pushy in trying to sell me something, and at that time let me know that moving towards purchasing a hair piece would not be ideal for me. Nikki was honest, caring, and so knowledgeable. I would recommend PK Walsh to any women who needs help with hair thinning or hair loss. more

Satisfied customer 1/24/2011

I have gone to PK. Walsh for many years and have had experience with almost everyone who works there . For those of us who have lost hair the whole process of realizing that one needs a hairpiece can be traumatic, P.K. Walsh made it seem as if there were easy and normal solutions I have never been dissatisfied and have probably had about 5 or 6 pieces each one lasting about three years. If at any time, the hairpiece came in and it was not as ordered, (for example the color was not quite right) it was corrected at their expense , or an entirely new one was ordered. When disaster struck a piece , (like falling by accident into the washing machine and going through an entire cycle and coming out a matted mess) Rachel spent a long time and somehow fixed it. I have always been treated well there and felt that i could trust them to do the right thing for me. more

Positive Scalp Prosthesis Experience 1/20/2011

A friend of a friend recommended PK Walsh as a place to get a scalp prosthesis or wig while I cope with temporary hair loss due to chemotherapy treatments for breast cancer. Kathy helped me select a wig style and color. I was on a tight deadline to acquire the scalp prosthesis for insurance purposes and was told that when it arrived - the color was all wrong. Kathy immediately ordered another color and it was promptly delivered. When I went in for my first consult - I was delighted - she really picked the correct color! I returned after having my head shaved and Rachel fitted the wig perfectly to my head. Everyone was very friendly and sensitive to my situation. I am very pleased with the final product and the price. If asked by a friend where I would recommend she goes to address temporary hair loss I would recommend PK Walsh. more

$10,000 pooper and miserable 1/18/2010

Wow, wish I read these reviews before going to PK Walsh. I have the misfortune of suffering from alopecia and after a poor experience with another hair specialist thought I was going to the ""best."" PK Walsh is anything but. I spent almost $10,000 in one year and am so miserable I rarely leave my home. The hair they have in-house is poor quality and became a knotted mess immediately so I opted for a custom piece for $3500.00. Nikki Walsh measured my head incorrectly and this piece never fit properly. Additionally, the stylist I saw was aweful-that's another story.\r \r Now, the worst part~while waiting for my custom piece to arrive, the the 2 pieces I had needed to be ""decuticlized"" due to matting and knots. I authorized Nikki Walsh to do this procedure for $100.00. She promptly sent me a bill for $400.00 I questioned the amount and she told me I said to go ahead and add hair to one piece-hence the higher price. I NEVER discussed that with her and she blatantly lied and said it was right in my chart, and then called my stylist in to supprt this. I never would have added hair to something I had no intention of wearing again, this ""mop"", was falling apart after 6 months use & was going in the trash pending receipt of the custom piece.\r \r So her solution? SHE OFFERED TO TAKE BACK THE HAIR SHE ADDED. I should have let her but paid her and never went back. \r \r I think Nikki Walsh is unethical and dishonest and lacks compassion. It's disgusting that she takes advantage of women that are suffering due to illness. After reading the aforementioned reviews, I know I'm not wrong in my feelings towards this establishment but I do wish I had ""read it here first."" Pros: nice waiting room Cons: overpriced, poor quality, dishonesty more

There are much better places for hair solutions 12/10/2009

Inflated prices, then they nickel & dime you for basic necessities to go along with your new hair. The best advice I got on styling and care of my new hair was from individuals (hair loss sufferers) on a forum about hair loss and solutions, not from the Professionals at PKW. They were not especially helpful with information. The owner will promise you anything to make a sale. If you're considering a wig or piece, check out Tintelations in Brookline. They are much more reasonable and are great with style and color. Pros: private styling rooms, good location, stylists are nice Cons: Very, very overpriced for less than great quality more

i feel normal again 3/4/2009

Life Changing...........that was what happened to me at PK Walsh. iwas losing my hair over a 4 year period of time. I went to several doctors and they were not coming up with any solutions. My hair just kept on thinning then i saw a doctor at physicans skin care, dr kaminer and he recommended Pkw. My appt was with kathy walsh and i immediatly felt comfortable becasue she also has hair loss. there was no pressure to do anything she showed me several solutions that would work for me then told me to go home and think about them. She had me come back in a couple weeks to meet again and then i make my decision with her guidance. I was able to add a small intergration to fill in all the thin spots it looks normal thats all i wanted to look normal. Everytime i go to the salon it is like visiting with family i love it there thank god for them.\r \r more

Way Overpriced! 1/4/2009

I was a customer of PK Walsh for years until I finally woke up to how badly they were ripping me off. The price of a ""custom"" hairpiece kept going up and up and I was paying close to $4,000 for a so-called custom unit. Granted, the quality of the hair was always excellent, but I could no longer afford it. I started researching where I could buy hairpieces and found several web sites that offerred hairpieces much cheaper, and I now pay about $500 for a piece that is the exact same length, customized piece and quality as PK's $4,000 unit. I also found that many salons in boston can order hairpieces for you but they do not advertise it. I have found several that charge about $900 for a piece but you can get them even cheaper if you look on the web (advent hair, hair direct, check them out). Pros: Good quality hair Cons: overpriced more

Buyer Beware 11/7/2008

PK Walsh claims to help women with thinning hair gain confidence through their products. These products, which are top of the line, are three times more expensive than other such items at salons in Boston. They sell many products from laser treatments (don't work) to extensions (fall out) and they sell them hard for thousands of dollars. I did some research before jumping into the extensions and found that they charge over $900 more than most hair salons with the same exact make and model of Great Lengths. They do not back up any of their products, ie if they do not work you are out of thousands of dollars, no guarantee and no warranty. Do you really want to spend your hard earned dollars in this economy on such a business?! Just say no! Cons: price gauging more
