Ortanique On The Mile

In a crowded field of ""fusion"" restaurants, Ortanique stands out as the best. Fresh ingredients are used and combined with a caribbean flavor to give this menu 4 stars for its uniqueness. Seafood very fresh. Cobia ceviche in a scoth bonnett pepper sauce was the highlight amongst the apps. Crispy calamari salad rules, great salad! Restaurant is a bit on the crowded and loud side, but service is attentive. If you can get one of the booths for two, you are in for a nice romantic experience. Entrees are limited in selection, but expertly prepared. Pork chop was deliscious, as was their signature Tuna. Whole yellow tail snapper was a standout. Desserts are good, mango strudel was the best of the 4 ordered. Bar is cool. Joel is a great bartender and considered to make the best Mojito in town. My friend had a Caesar Salad which was without real flavor. I had opted for Seafood pasta: pasta was chewy and shrimp, clams were NOT fresh. The whole dish was a disappointment and the service, though quick with bread and drink, was lagging during the rest of the meal. I need to stress that I have been to Mangos and Larios. There is by far no comparison in the Mojito drink. The taste is much better and traditional. If you notice the length the bartender takes to make this drink and how detailed is his recipe, the taste says it all. I believe the bartender's name is Joel and he sets an example to others on how to make drinks and service customers. He knows the whole menu and stresses the quality and ingredients every item has on the menu. Beautifully decorated interior. Chef Cindy uses first-class creativity and ingredients to create savoring Caribbean influenced dishes. Hostess has short term memory, same with the waiter Alex. If you're minority race like I am, don't expect to get the attentive service that your White counterpart neighboring tables receive. Expect noisy crowd and packed house. Be sure to make a reservation or wait upwards of 30-45min. during peak dining hours. more
