What can I say. Everything was very good, and the service exceptional. I was just expecting a little more variety from the menu, and the dishes we had were not spectacular. more

My Goodness!!!!...What can't I say regarding the food at this Restaurant. For all of those that know Miami Restaurants and excellent cuisine, I must say skip this one and spend your money where you will get what you pay for. The food here is over priced and I can honestly tell you that I could of gotten the same dish at the Cheesecake Factory for a lot less than what these folks are asking to pay for their dishes. I love to eat out and check out the latest restaurants, However, this one basically states that; "those how come here don't respect the value of the Dollar and neither do we." \r I would definetely recommend other restaurants in the Gables, where I know one would pay the same and get quality and a great ambiance. Places like Mortons Steak House, Cafe Abbracci, Houstons, etc., are just a few to name. The dish that I got consisted of five Shrimps, five Scallops with some rice and a Coconut milk Thai Sauce. The taste was bland and I felt that it needed more work and effort for what they made it out to be on their menu. Overall, I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. For sure I ended up staying until the end because the Caipirinha that I ordered was decent enough to relax the direct insult of the place. Moreover, the company that I was with made it all better and the sharing of a good time with friends is always priceless. Had it not been for that, I would of walked out as soon as possible and spend my money elsewhere. I hope that my review dissuades people from experiencing what I experienced and go elsewhere. more

Now, food wise -everything on that menu is just FANTASTIC and just delightful and dessert is a MUST> Kudos to Chef Cindy Hutson!!! Pros: EVERYTHING FROM FOOD TO SERVICE TO AMBIENCE TO BARTENDER...ET CETERA more

Foodgasm - an O for your taste buds 5/6/2008

After 3 visits I think I can safely say this is some of the best food in Miami. The food is amazing and the service is perfect. Plan to wait at the bar even with reservations and for a romantic time ask to be seated in the booth area. They have a great wine list and the people are very knowledgeable. more

creative delicious food, fun atmosphere 2/18/2008

Went here when we were on vacation last week. It was reccomended by a family member who had been there before. I have to say, the food was absolutely delicious. I'm a seafood lover, and tend to be very picky, and each course i had had was to die for. The scallops and shrimp entree was so good I wanted to pick up my plate and lick it. The owner/chef came over to our table and said hello. she was very friendly and fun. The decor was funky with a carribean feel. I drank wine, but my friends were having mojitos and raving about them. Next time I come back to Miami I will definately be back here. more

""Coral Gables Best Bartender"", Bar none !! 10/6/2007

This was our second night in a row. We were going out of town and we had a blast with Joel at the bar. He basiclly told us what we were going to have and that we would love it. He wasn't pushy he asked what we typically liked. He told us about the history of the place and talked about the owners/chef (Cindy Hudson & Shirley). He was by himself and was very busy, so the info was given in pieces. Apparentlly everyone at the bar must have been there before cause everyone seem to know Joel by name. It was crazy but just the fun atmosphere that we didn't know we were in the mood for. I'm gald the hostess told us to go to the bar and wait for our table cause then I would'nt be telling everyone about this. This restaurant, though tightly spaced and a little loud was very cool and makes you feel warm and cozy. The food was every bit as good as Joel said and infinitly more. Do yourself a favor and come to Ortanique, call ahead make sure that Joel is at the bar cause he told us that he only works on certain nights , (don't remember which one's). Ortanique is a little pricey, but that's the last thing you will be thinking about right after you have one of Joel's cocktails, and some of the best food I've ever eaten anywhere(sorry mom) !! By the way we had these rum drinks Joel told us were made with 25 year old rum, and champange, and mint and lime (I know sounds weird but oh my god ! Though we didn't have any wine that night, Joel told us that he had an award winning wine list and Tues. is half price wine. We had the Lamb chops, Boullabase (yes I know I spelled it wrong). We had the Banana fritters, and the rum cake. I'm tired of writing - just go and see Joel !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Pros: Joel !!!!!!!!!!! Cons: Had to leave town, and couldn't make it again till next year . more

Meet the ""Mojito Master"" Joel Garcia @ ""Ortanique"" 7/13/2007

When you expect the freshest seafood cooked in the most delectable manner, including the ceviche, you must eat at ""Ortanique"" . Even if you don't have reservations and you need to sit at the bar you will have an ecstatic experience with Joel making his famous mojitos from scratch, THE REAL THING!!! not just chemical mixes. The ambiance, the food, and especially Joel make this an overall positive and great energy boost any day of the week!!! My hats off to you all. I strongly recommend ""Ortanique"" to those with a refined palate for both food and drinks!!!\r Lots of love and good luck always!\r Cecy Pros: Joel Garcia's mojitos and Cindy Hutson's ceviche. Cons: The Valet outside more

Outstanding Mojitos! 5/21/2007

Some friends and I headed to Ortanique on the Mile for a couple of drinks last Friday. The bar service was excellent, extremely friendly staff, very nice setting, and most importantly the drinks were amazing. As a Cuban-American I must say I have tried mojitos almost anywhere and everywhere you can imagine, but these were just spectacular. There was an excellent mix of ""yerba buena"" (spearmint) and rum, it went down smoothly and had a great after effect (lol). Thanks alot bar staff, my bartender (Joel Garcia), and everyone at Ortanique on The Mile for a great time...till next time (very soon). A little pricey, but worth it. Pros: Nice ambience, excellent service, good people watching Cons: bad for kids and large groups, limited parking more

GREAT FOOD -NICE AREA 4/16/2007

We went here for lunch, the service and food was great. I was a bit nervous about the Mango Salad....IT WAS GREAT. The seared tuna and pasta dishes where also awsome....nice for lunch I bet it will be even better for dinner. more

Excellent but not for the claustrophobic 11/2/2006

We enjoyed delicious food and excellent service at Ortanique, but it rankles when tables are squeezed so close together! I prefer to focus on conversation at my own table rather than be subjected to that of the tables next to us. Pros: Delicious food, attentive service Cons: Cramped space more

Terrible Experience!! 9/17/2006

Took my girlfriend to Ortanique for a special occasion and it was anything but. First the service was terrible. We sat down after a drink at the bar and no one served us for about 30 minutes. We ordered a bottle of wine and it did not show up until after the appetizer so we returned it. We ordered the tomato and mozzarella salad and did not taste like anything. I had the filet for dinner which was very good. The best part of the meal. Then we ordered desert and the rum cake was super dry. I was really expecting a tasty meal as they have tons of awards all over the restaurant. Very disappointed!!!! Pros: Great Steak!!! Cons: Terrible Service, mediocre food. more

Over all disappointing experience 8/21/2006

The concept might look nice but the lack of good service and the absence of clever food will never be compensated. \r The wine service was slow, the two first oredered bottles were unavailable. The third arrived well into our appetizers were served, way too warm and in really disgusting cheap glasses, very disappointing especially considering the prices charged.\r Bland shrimp and tasteless grouper. Dessert was almost inedible.\r Not recommended! more

Everything is awesome! 5/19/2006

The City of Coral Gables is lucky to have such a gem! This restaurant exceeds your expectations. The food is amazing, the ambience takes you away to a romantic island away from your usual surroundings. The drinks are spectacular and Joel truly makes the best mojito and white chocolate martini I have ever tasted. It is just as great to stop by the bar before dinner as to eat at the bar because of his spectacular service. One of the few that truly knows all the ingredients and savory dishes offered at Ortanique. When the owners of this restaurant are in town, they are there to greet you, to make you feel comfortable and they offer you the world with their love for food and people. Chef Cindy Hutson's dishes are truly scrumptous and amazing. Thank you for bringing the caribbean to us...It saves us airfare! Pros: Best food in town, Romantic Ambience, Drinks & Service more

Caribbean Heat Hits Coral Gables. 1/26/2006

Ive been fortunate to have traveled to the Caribbean on many occasions. After dining at Ortanique on the Mile, it is inescapably obvious that the exotic heat that hits the Caribbean, has hit The City Beautiful. This restaurant has smashed the proverbial nail on the head with its unique blend of different Caribbean styles and flavors while still retaining its position as Miamis #1. While truly amazing for its food, this place is the authority of its kind. There are many restaurants today in the Caribbean that cannot compare. I close my eyes, savor the food, and Im in the Caribbean. Chef Cindy Hutson has command of her mastery in the kitchen. The ambiance is very posh and artistic. Reservations are a must here due to the commanding demand of a Caribbean escape so close to home. Like at Nobu, I could finally spare the airline ticket for good. L.A. Pros: Everything. Cons: None. more

Consistently Tasteful 3/1/2005

I have been to Ortanique about 6 times and have yet to be disappointed. The chef knows how to pair foods and compliment flavors. The service is always good, particularly the men who bus the tables. I have to disagree with the member who thought the mojitos were excellent. I found my mojito to be overpowered by the rum and couldn't finish the entire thing. Any fish dish here is absolutely delicious, as is the filet mignon and the venison. You MUST save room for dessert. The banquets are a nice place to spend a more romantic evening, but you definitely need to make a reservation and request to be seated there. I realize the price tag may be significantly higher than Houston's across the way, but when you consider the quality, I think Ortanique is a much greater value. Pros: Food, Decor, Dessert Cons: Can get noisy, Seating can be tight more
