Another SF landmark 8/21/2005

I love this theater because it shows any Broadway musical you cannot catch because many of us do not live in New York. They show Wicked, The Lion King, and mot likely be showing Spamalot once the touring troupe begins. I watched Grease there and the production was actually very low budget and not loyal to the film. Frankie Avalon was there and he sang a few extra songs after the show was over. I would recommend having a buddy to go with always because the theatre is located in kind of a seedy neighborhood, close to the downtown Union Square area. There are plenty of buses that located by it, as well as Bart and the Muni subway in case you don't want to look for parking. more

Great productions in great theatre 8/20/2005

From the outside you wouldn't be able to tell that the theatre inside is really nice. The seats are plush, the last row of each section has ample leg room, and the carvings on the walls are exquisite. It's a pretty big theatre, so I suggest the very front of the Mezzanine section or the Orchestra. I recently saw Wicked there and it was amazing. I thought the acoustics was okay, but I'm not an expert so don't take my word for it. I definitely recommend coming to this theatre to see musicals! more

Lion King 8/20/2005

This was a very nice theater. I saw the Lion King here. The actors were very good, but of course they had been rehersing for a long time. The theater itself was nice and big, and the ushers were all uniformed and very sweet. They had souveniers and other little things to buy, but when I came in they had handed me a free bag of goodies. There were snacks and drinks/ other refreshments out for asle as well. Parking.. you will have to come by train or BART unless you want to park 3 blocks away.. more

beautiful theater 8/19/2005

I saw The Lion King at the Orpheum last year and had such a great experience. The theater itself is so historic and architecture is wonderful. Look up at the ceiling before the show starts! It's truly amazing. The acoustics are also great and they always have the top run shows from Broadway. more

Perfect Wickedness 8/15/2005

As one of the three theaters in the Best of Broadway series, the Orpheum seems its share of big name shows. Wicked is currently enjoying a run there and the show is not to be beat and shines in this venue. With incredible sets and a cast that can’t be beat, the show will leave you standing and cheering by the end, if you can contain yourself that long! more

this place is where you need to be for shows 8/12/2005

i loved it here! the theatre itself is kind of old and raggy, but the location and atmosphere is terrific. i have watched quite a few shows at this theathre. the sound is not too bad. i would like it more if they put some money into this place and fixed it up. despite that, this is a great theatre. thumbs up, baby! more
