Have been there a couple of times..its ok. But there is one reason why I won't go back once I find out that the owner treats his employees like crap I will never go back. I guess the guy is really mean and makes people cry. Really these people are the ones making the money for you. I hope he reads this and changes his ways or goes and takes some anger management classes. \r \r \r \r \r \r \r \r \r more

Fantastic restaurant for foodies and special occasions! 10/4/2010

My husband and I have been to Opus One several times in the last year and it has always been outstanding from start to finish. We generally go for a special occasion because it has a nice romantic ambiance inside. We like to take our time at a restaurant like this so we are usually there for 2-3 hours. We've never felt rushed to order, or had our food come out too fast. We usually order a cocktail or glass of wine and enjoy that while we peruse the menu. We've had a variety of things on the menu including the steaks (wow!), the lamb, and the seafood trio. The oysters rockefeller are amazing, and the lobster spring rolls, and the beef tenderloin rangoon apps are fantastic. They have a chocolate dessert that looks like a chocolate bag filled with ice cream and other goodness that is to die for. And if you love a great cup of coffee I highly recommend the Kona french press. I know it's $12, but if you're a true coffee junkie (I drink mine black), it's awesome. more

Fine dining for Business People 11/25/2009

My business associates and I always choose Opus One for lunch. Whether it's important business or a leisurely lunch this is our destination. Due to the unpretentious service and consistently outstanding food, Opus One is our dining choice. The soups and the chef's lunch features are impressive. The chef's features are a constant variety from seafood, poultry, and beef. The variety of the menu will surely meet anyone's desire. From the first bite to last your taste buds will dance. If you choose wine to have with lunch the wine list is phenominally extensive yet unintimidating. Perfect food and wine harmony. Overall, Opus One will meet your goal to impress new business associates or reminesce with lifelong friends. It will definitely be a memorable experience. Pros: Excellent Service more

Best Food in Town 11/25/2009

My husband and I have been frequenting Opus One for over 15 years. Whether it's a birthday, anniversary, or out of town guests, Opus One is where we entertain. Why? It's all about the hospitality and the attention to detail. The service is impeccable. From the moment we walk in and sit down our needs are met. Their philosophy seems to be " the answer is yes. What's the question?" Every time we visit it's a given the Seafood Trio is ordered and the chef's feature, for that evening. The chef's feature is innovative, creative, and most of all delicious. Consistency is top notch. The foods that are cold are actually cold and the foods that are hot are hot. Never leave Opus One without having one of their delectable desserts. Kudos to Opus One. From beginning to end, you are number one. more

The perfect place for pre theater dinner 11/21/2009

The perfect evening can be found at Opus One. I found out by a friend of mind that Opus One has tickets to all the shows in downtown Detroit. My wife wanted to see Legally Blonde for her birthday. I ordered the tickets from Pete at Opus One he got me fifth row center. When we arrived at Opus One for dinner, Rocky the Maitre?d seated us in a prime booth near the pianist. With the dinner theater package that Opus One offers we could choose four courses, soup, salad, entr?e and dessert. In the package we also got a shuttle to the theater and back to the restaurant. Each course was perfect. I had the New England clam chowder, an Opus Romaine salad, Medallions of Beef with Maryland Blue Crab. My wife had the same thing except she opted for the seafood trio. Both entrees were cooked to perfection. When seven thirty came, Rocky escorted us to the shuttle. The driver took us to the Fisher Theater and my wife got her wish. The driver Cameron was there when the show was over and he took us back to Opus One for our dessert and an after dinner drink. My wife was happy and that made me happy. It could not have been more of a perfect evening thanks to Opus One. Pros: Great Service and Food Cons: a little noisy more

Best Place Around! 11/18/2009

I went to Opus a couple of weeks ago with a group of friends. Everything was amazing, we each ordered something different, and everything came out just as we had asked. I orded a the Rack of Lamb which was delicious, my friends ordered the Shrimp Helene, the Sea Food Trio and the Filet. There wasn't any food left on our plates, we still managed to make room for their decadent desserts. The prices seemed perfect for what we ordered. We will definitely be back! Pros: Fabulous menu and extensive wine list more

Not what it used to be 5/22/2009

This is restaurant that my husband and immediate family have frequented for more than 17 years. We have always enjoyed a wonderful and extensive wine list and paired with great dishes. The last couple of times the food has been horrible. My sister gave my fanily and friends gift certificates for Christmas and we have just used the last certificate and have all agreed that we would never be back. Tonight I had a good meal that the steak was cooked med instead of med rare, no big deal. My mother and nephew ordered rib eyes and it was very apparent both were different cuts of meat. My mothers was full og grissle and fat and at best could be used for soup stock. It was sent back to the kitchen only to return in three cut up pieces minus the grissle and fat. Totally unacceptable. The steak was sent bak and fish was ordered instead. She had to ask for a fork and we watched her finish her new meal we ordered coffee and cream and had to ask for a spoon to stir the coffee. The bill with a few martinis $210.00. Horrible waste of money. Clearly a trained chef is not working in this kitchen. My advice GO TO THE LARK / COACH INSIGNIA / MCDONALDS ETC. Pros: good wine list Cons: food quality more

Great atmosphere to impress, not the best for the buck 9/25/2007

It was my anniversary and I wanted to create a formal atmosphere; I made reservations at Opus One by recommendation. Park your own car, valet svc is nice but we witnessed the valet bump someones nice vehicle. Could happen anywhere I guess. Your dining experience is only as good as your waiter. My waiter was David. Nice enough guy but due to a larger party next to us he paid more attention to them. Another waiter was kind enough to notice our many attempts to get his attention and got our drink orders. We wished he was our waiter(if mgmt is reading he was the blk guy - very attentive to his tables). Our dinner was good/not spectacular. My wife enjoyed her chicken and risotto- the risotto was FABULOUS. I thought the chicken was ok, kinda salty for my taste. I had King crab stuffed salmon. Maybe 3 microscopic pieces of crab inside. It was served over bed of rice and delicious sauce that saved the salmon. Needless to say two major points on rating a restaurant is service and food. Sanitation goes without saying. So everyone else seemed to enjoy this restaurant so I'd recommend it based on that. I'd probably not return unless invited or on business. If you're going to spend a good buck on food I recommend Sweet GA Brown, Seldom Blues or Andiamo's(any location) I've been to several. Pros: Ambience Cons: Price/Value more

Great menu, great wine list and professional service 7/16/2007

I love what they have done with their new menu. The Jazz Improvisation part of the menu allows us to create our own entree. We recently attended Opus One and my guests (who were very fussy) got exactly what they wanted by using the Jazz menu. They chosse their protein, vegetable, and starch, and how they wanted it cooked. They even choose their own sauces. I ordered one of their new dishes the Cowboy Steak with the coffee rub, it was the best steak that I have ever eaten. I have been back three times since and it only seems to get better. more

Nice place for Detroit 12/14/2005

This is a great place for detroit, but does not compare to bigger city restaurants. Prices are high, the food is good(not outstanding), Wine list is great. more

Simply the Best 8/19/2005

My wife and I tried the Rack of Lamb and the Dover and Salmon in Braids with champagne sauce it was beautifully presented. the taste sensations were just great. We had gracious knowlegable service. The wine list was as good as it gets Pros: good valet parking, good value, Beautiful bar more

Excellent; traditional 11/21/2002

I'm not sure i would describe the menu as French, but it certainly is continental. Everything i had was excellent, and the service at my table was perfect. i found it slightly irritating that they started removing wine glasses from other (unoccupied) tables as early as 9:30 pm. Also, they offer a fruit and cheese plate as a dessert option. But the selection of cheeses was what could find at any supermarket. So i had the chocolate mousse torte, which was wonderful. as a single diner, i would have appreciate some half-bottles on the wine list, but the wines by the glass were excellent, and there was a pretty big assortment. more
