pleasantly surprised. 12/6/2012

The purpose of the store is not to supply parents with cash But to supply children with quality merchandise at a reasonable too low cost!!! The store basically started on the concept of sharing what you can with those who have not or little.! Keeping those thoughts in mind I recently came across some clothes that I had put away for my granddaughter when she was 2, she is now 5, most of the clothing wear summer ,out of season ,but there were a few outfit that were winter already... yes they were name brand and yes they were like new. I did not make top dollar, I actually think it was only 12 dollars. but I left the store with gas money to cover my errands for the day. and I feel good knowing that some kid will be able to use those clothes. and their parents won't have to pay a lot to get it.... as for the employees.. yes they are young but how else do we teach responsibility to our teenagers.. but I have not been in this store in several years, and I was pleasantly surprised that som more

People need to be respectful 4/8/2012

I have recently been into the Once Upon a Child that is in Bristol and those girls are nothing but polite and hard working. Yes they are very young but the ones that I have seen are eager to learn and willing to help people for the most part with the occasional bad seed but mostly polite. If you've actually been in the backroom of the store you would know why they are selective on merchandise. They are less picky to things that they need, whether you have new items or not. Those girls deal with very rude people that yell at them and give them a hard time for something that they can't control. Its not their fault for how the store is run. They do their best and should be respected for it. They are always willing to answer questions and show people how to do things or walk people to where items are. If you are nice to them they will be nice to you. Its common courtesy, if you think about it. more

WHAT A LET DOWN 2/13/2012

I'm actually a huge fan of Once Upon A Child! I have found absolutely wonderful products at the DANBURY store. Bristol is a bit closer to home, so I decided to check out the OUAC there. I was DISGUSTED by the appearance of the store. The floors were filthy. It smelled of must and my mom actually ended up having an allergy attack!\r \r The clothing selection was sub-par. Many of the items were stained, faded and very worn. \r The baby items such as exersaucers, swings, and furniture were dirty. I don't just mean faded or stained, I'm talking literal DIRT! How hard is it to wipe down those things?\r \r I did not see one "adult" employee. There seemed to be only teens to assist you, and they were literally laying on the counter and talking inappropriately.\r \r I have never tried to sell anything to OUAC, so I can't really comment on that aspect.\r \r I will only go to the Danbury store from now on! more

love this store. 9/7/2011

Im highly upset with what some of you critics have been saying . Yes they give u close to nothing when u sell them your items but, they aren't expensive at all i go there alot to buy for my7 month old and the clothes dont go over 6.50 alot of the clothes are about 2.50. Also to the lady that said u can go to toys r us and get a crib for 40$ are u serious in what world?? Toys r us is very expensive. All in all i have never had a problem or a complain about OUAC i give it 5 star and i recomend it to everyone more

I live the store! 4/25/2011

I love buying things from Once Upon A Child. However, I too was very disappointed when I tried to sellthem my items. Some were purchased there and hardly used. However, it was explained that their stock was very high. I did not get much money, but it is a business and in order to sell things cheaply, merchandise must not be costly. I personally love the store! more

Rude, unhelpful staff 12/29/2010

Once Upon a Child is a good place to purchase clothing, but a terrible place to sell anything. They pay pretty much nothing for brand new or very gently worn clothes, yet their racks are filled with items that are outdated or faded. You really have to dig to find good items. I was looking for an exersaucer and found many that were at least 7 years old, broken, dirty and expensive! The staff is beyond rude. They have zero customer service ability and are all teenagers who have no idea about the items they have in stock. It's frustrating to say the least. Sell your things on Craigslist if you want to get fair prices. more

lailas mom 10/4/2010

i have sold them some things that were brand new almost and i feel like they did cheat me. and i brought things the same day and what they gave me for my nstuff was ridiculous but i didnt feel like bringing everything back home so i took the change and put it toward what i purchased. needless to say it didnt put a dent in the 167.00 dollars i spent. and yes the staff is very rude, so ive decided to find another spot to bring my other things. and yes some of the shoes were not gently used, you can find nice shoes if you have the time to search all the bins. more

GumdropSwap is the alternative 5/4/2010

I was unhappy with UOAC and didn't want to donate my 3 kid's clothes and not get anything for them. Then I found this website called http://www.GumdropSwap.com. It's a boutique based in Bridgeport, CT but you can do everything through the mail. So I swapped in a ton of stuff and got new stuff and nice gently used things in return. I got a lot more return on my investment with them and highly recommend as an alternative to UOAC more

LOOK ELSEWHERE 2/15/2010

I have bought from Once Upon a Child before and been very happy. However, I strongly suggest NEVER selling to them. You will get pennies for qualities merchandise, including clothes. I spent hours sorting through clothes, toys, etc.... and giving them only quality products. Clothes with tags on them, etc.... Almost everything I brought was given back to me except for a few expensive items which they gave me NOTHING for. VERY DISAPPOINTING. I should have known when a customer in the store saw me bringing in items and told me not to bother, that it was a waste of time. They were right. You will definitely want to consdider going elsewhere. Too bad, because it is nice to shop there.\r EVEN MORE INTERESTING, THE ONLY STAR RATING I WAS ABLE TO HIGHLIGHT WAS VERY GOOD OR WORLD CLASS. Definitely not very good or world class! more

jon 1/11/2010

I was so disgusted, I had new clothing brand names with tags, they tried to give me $1.50 for a $32.00 PAIR OF NIKE CHILDRENS NEW SHOES. There are so many new places popping up, don't waste your time there, Bad, Rude customer service. dirty ,over crowded store. jon more

RIP OFF!!!!!!!!! 1/3/2009

I went to Once Upon a Child with a $350 oak crib. Used less than 2 yrs and was in perfect condition. They wanted to give me $50!!!! Are they crazy?! I knew I wasn't gonna make a lot of money back, but GEESH!! You can't buy a crib like that anywhere for less than $200.00. I wouldn't bring anything there or shop there again. They have teenagers working who don't know the first thing about baby stuff so how can they tell you what you are going to get for them? Ridiculous!!! Not to mention they put your stuff down right to your face and make you feel like crap. more

ripoff 11/19/2008

sure its great to buy stuff there, although they are definately on the expensive side for USED items. But selling to them is rediculous! They pay very poorly. Try craigslist, ebay.... anything before going to them. They gave me 40$ for my $250 breast pump so they can turn around and sell it for $80. I regret almost everything I have sold to them. The only thing I take to them anymore is clothing because it is very difficult to sell online. They are VERY picky though. more

horrible experience 11/19/2008

my experience was bad. they met none of my expectation's. they wanted to pay me nothing for brand new item's,i just tried to submit review ,they sent it back stating , there is too much nonsense in it. unbelievable. there prices are unreasonable, the store is a mess, the employee's rude, some are. i would not ever recommend them, don't waste your time. n/g Nov, 17 2008 more

The best store by far! 11/16/2007

I shop at Once Upon A Child often and all the people who work there are incredibly nice and very helpful. I am a single mother of 3 children and I have shopped here since my first child (she is now 12) and I still shop there for her too! I have gotten all my children's clothes, cribs & other things my children need. I'm sad that I am now done having children (my youngest is 9, and as I said before, oldest is 12) because sooner or later, I won't be able to shop there anymore! I have become real close to many of the girls that work there and I consider them part of my family. I've never really been to a store that I have felt that way before. As for the clothes, they are reasonably priced. I found a beautiful Gap jacket for $25.00 when in the store it was almost $100! The quality of the clothes is amazing for what you pay for. You can't buy a pair of Abercrombie fashion jeans for $12 anywhere else but at Once Upon A Child! I would recommend this store to everyone and anyone who asks me w more

Children's Attire 10/17/2007

We browse Once Upon A Child regularly. We have also brought items to the store for them to purchase. It is very true that they only take decent quality items. It is a place it seems you must frequent often as merchandise is always changing. The prices are very reasonable. I have bought many items in there for both my girls that still have orginal tags on them. Give it a try. I was glad we did. Most likely you will keep returning. more

Wouldn't Recommend 7/1/2007

I've found them to be extremely picky in what they will take. Even stuff NWT is not taken. They don't recognize some high end label brands and have offered next to nothing for them.\r \r The staff is less than helpful and unfriendly. My son had a partial complex seizure there, lasted about a minute, then proceeded to cry. I was holding him when a salesperson came up to me and told me to take my 2 year old son out of the store because he was crying so much. He was giving her a headache and disturbing the other people in the store. (She told me her son would NEVER cry like that. I hope she doesn't have a child with a seizure disorder.) more

meh not impressed 4/15/2007

I went after reading the gently used part. even the 6/9 month clothing seemed wash worn and not too gently used. The pricing was about the same as most of the childrens clothing stores and almost more than macy's jcpennys clearance racks. Alot of the other items such as cribs strollers and stuff I saw were almost the same prices as I saw new in some places more

Hit or miss 9/30/2005

Regarding infants clothing you can find some real cute stuff in very good condition for a decent price. Also, holiday clothing for Easter and Christmas are abundant and great priced. If you are looking for something like school clothing for a 4 or 5 year old then you might be better off paying a few more bucks at WalMart. Their older kids clothing is wash worn at best and downright stained and dingy frequently. Which is quite shocking because they are supposedly pretty picky about what they will take. On items such as car seats their prices were about $10.00 cheaper than if you would buy new and for the peace of mind that the seat was never in an accident I'll spend the money. Their cribs are no bargain. The used ones are expensive and banged up, the new ones are about $40.00 more than you would pay at Babies R Us. Decent deals on strollers and bassinets. If you are bringing something in to sell it to them, they will pay you half of what they are going to sell it for. I have more

Almost perfect 9/10/2005

This store offers almost perfect clothes for younger chilren and babies. The prices are very inexpensive. The store does seem a bit crowed for the inventory they have, so it is sometimes hard to search though the racks of clothes they have. Since they take gently used clothes, its a great way to dress your child for a fraction of what it would buying them new. Definatly worth a look, when you have the time to. more
