why do people eat here? 11/21/2006

Aside from gigantic searvings it is beyond me why anyone would choose to eat here over other amazing Italian places in Portland. The food is bland and uninteresting and the prices are just as high or higher than real resaraunts. Cons: the food service and price more

Best specials 11/13/2006

It's all about the specials at the Olive Garden. All you can eat soup, salad, and breadsticks are great. Pasta specials also let you find new favorites in smaller portions. Wait staff is generally friendly. Usually a busy place, so come early or call ahead. Great portion sizes! Pros: All you can eat specials Cons: Always busy! more

Expensive, But Delicious 12/15/2004

Olive Garden is a chain for a reason: high quality Italian food combined with well-decorated restaurants and great service. The Salem Olive Garden is always busy and I've never seen it dead. Ever. The food is always high quality and the service is always pleasant but the "franchise" element of the restaurant is what bothers me most. It loses the Italian authenticity and slight appeal with its inability to distinguish itself amongst the rest. The deals are always pretty decent however, so visiting the Olive Garden here is definitely a nice treat. Pros: Food, Specials, Desserts more

  • In Short
Established in 1982, this chain gained a following for its laid-back atmosphere and generous portions. Patrons settle into comfortable booths and tables in dining rooms with plants, artwork and décor reminiscient of the villas in the Tuscan countryside. Starters include scampi, sausage or pepperoni pizza, and several soup choices, as well as a signature seafood dip (crab, shrimp, cheese and marinara). Entrees include classics like lasagna, fettuccine Alfredo and chicken parmigiana. There are also "Garden Fare" options, which promise 30 percent fewer calories.
