Worst

Lack of communication. Ignored messages and emails. Didn’t not refund application fee. Believe to have bias against African Americans will be taking legal action

I have lived in Oldfield Mews for 2 years. The location is its biggest attraction for easy travel to Hilton Head, Savannah, and that is the main reason I stayed. However this place is very, very unforgiving. For instance, all the appliances and general layout of doors, cabinets, etc. are cheap and break easily. One of the pantry knobs simply broke off with an effortless pull. The window screen fell off when I opened a window. The walls are extremely thin so if you enjoy loud movies or music you will be forced not to have it as loud as you want it as you will disturb your neighbors. Remember, when you stop by here they show you a “model” and it looks terrific, suffice to say that is not the case when you move into your unit. \r \r Initially, when I moved in the apartment there were no fees for the washer and dryer and in the middle of my first lease they decided to increase the rent with an extremely short notice on my door. They incessantly attach flyers on your door as well. \r As one of the reviews below posted, there is a sign that states, “Pet Friendly,” which basically means you can have pets in your apartment, although they must meet a certain weight limit. There is no other perks to it, no discount for the carpet, nothing for your dog to enjoy, or anything that is reminiscent of being “Pet Friendly.”\r \r Oldfield Mews replaces the carpet every five years and if your pet causes several stains on the carpet you will be forced to pay the pro-rate of what is left of the carpet life. So if you move in and they had just replaced the carpet and they tell you that the carpet needs to be replaced, you pay for it in its entirety. The women in the office are seldom friendly when you ask the real questions of maintenance and care of the apartment, they never give good insight, and they basically try to do their best to move you in the apartment and once you do, you will regret it. Not to mention the fact that you signed a year-long lease. \r \r The “Fitness Center,” is simply comprised of cheap, bouncy treadmills, an elipitical, and an all-in-one weight machine. I have no complaints about the pool except that it is not deep enough. \r \r There is one dumpster and on several occasions there is too much trash for it to handle so the residents pile all the trash right next to the dumpster and it accumulates for days. The entire premise is full of dog feces so you have to be careful where you step. There is a worker there that supposedly picks up the feces however he doesn’t do a great job. When I go run around the grass area I am bound to find a surprise at the bottom of my shoe. When I had requested a trouble-call for repairs they gave me a date and a time and they failed to show up. SC is hot and humid during the summer and last summer they simply left the air conditioning filter at my front door so I could do their job. My neighbor next door did not even receive an air-condition filter and he had to request one. Why would he have to contact them when they expect the hot, humid season, and know that most residents utilize their AC at that timeframe? \r \r It seems they set up their customers for failure so they can have them pay for upkeep of the apartments. To be honest and blunt, this place and management felt like a scheme to lure you in and have you pay out of pocket to keep the life of these apartments. Look somewhere else that is cheaper, friendlier, and doesn’t expect you to do their work for them. I shelled out about $550.00 when I moved out for carpet stains and damages. The carpet damages were centralized in the living room only, yet they forced me to pay for the removal and the replacement of the carpet in all bedrooms…\r \r Do yourself a favor and skip this place altogether. \r \r SSgt Sixto L. My husband and I were new to the area. We were moving down to South Carolina from Michigan so we were checking out several housing options. Oldfield Mews looked beautiful and sounded like the perfect place so it was at the top of our list. After we visited we decided we absolutely did NOT want to live there. The woman that took us for a tour was incredibly condescending and gave the impression she didn't think we were good enough to live there. So we chose to rent a different home closer to Hilton Head, for a lower price and more square footage. We absolutely made the best choice not to rent with Oldfield Mews. They missed out on leasing to two educated, working professionals who never pay their rent late because they made snap judgements and talked down to us. Might want to reconsider their approach. more

PET LOVERS OR PET SCAM 2/3/2011

One of the reasons we moved there was for the convenience of being close to base (military family)and the fact that they allowed pets. I believe 70% of the residents own pets, they claim to be pet friendly and one of their motto is ""they welcome large pets"" as well, but guess what their pet agreement is so vague that when you try to move out all they care is to check your carpet with the black light to search for pet urine and then to tell you you are responsible to replace the carpet ($1200 and if you don't pay they send you to collections"" this is what the property manager told us. In other words you can clean and pet treat the carpet (which we did $400) and they will still make you replace the carpets. We still dealing with them and after spending $400 cleaning the carpet I received a call to say they want us to replace the carpet.\r \r WATCH OUT..... the ladies seem to be nice until they get your signature once they get you in they are rude and very unprofessional. Their pet agreement does not specify what is considered pet damages so if they don't like you - GOOD LUCK!! \r \r DO NOT RENT THERE. There are far better places in the area with cheaper prices, nicer appliances that allow pets with pet agreements far more clear than theirs. \r \r more

Don't rent 8/5/2010

We moved in a month ago (Mid-July). We we're a day early to moving in and we had to get a hotel because the place wasn't ready yet. Once we got to our place we still had to wait 5 days for a washer and dryer. As for the workout center - half of the equipment does not work and hasn't worked since we've moved in. When we signed our contract we were told face to face that no rent would be due until September. Just the other day we got a notice on our door stating that we had one day to pay our rent for the month of August. Staff is highly incompetent and lacks professionalism - do not move in here. I recently had to go to the ER because I get bit by a spider in my own house. Yes, TONS of bugs and spiders all over the apartment. Do not live here!\r more
