I have lived in Oldfield Mews for 2 years. The location is its biggest attraction for easy travel to Hilton Head, Savannah, and that is the main reason I stayed. However this place is very, very unforgiving. For instance, all the appliances and general layout of doors, cabinets, etc. are cheap and break easily. One of the pantry knobs simply broke off with an effortless pull. The window screen fell off when I opened a window. The walls are extremely thin so if you enjoy loud movies or music you will be forced not to have it as loud as you want it as you will disturb your neighbors. Remember, when you stop by here they show you a “model” and it looks terrific, suffice to say that is not the case when you move into your unit. \r

Initially, when I moved in the apartment there were no fees for the washer and dryer and in the middle of my first lease they decided to increase the rent with an extremely short notice on my door. They incessantly attach flyers on your door as well. \r
As one of the reviews below posted, there is a sign that states, “Pet Friendly,” which basically means you can have pets in your apartment, although they must meet a certain weight limit. There is no other perks to it, no discount for the carpet, nothing for your dog to enjoy, or anything that is reminiscent of being “Pet Friendly.”\r

Oldfield Mews replaces the carpet every five years and if your pet causes several stains on the carpet you will be forced to pay the pro-rate of what is left of the carpet life. So if you move in and they had just replaced the carpet and they tell you that the carpet needs to be replaced, you pay for it in its entirety. The women in the office are seldom friendly when you ask the real questions of maintenance and care of the apartment, they never give good insight, and they basically try to do their best to move you in the apartment and once you do, you will regret it. Not to mention the fact that you signed a year-long lease. \r

The “Fitness Center,” is simply comprised of cheap, bouncy treadmills, an elipitical, and an all-in-one weight machine. I have no complaints about the pool except that it is not deep enough. \r

There is one dumpster and on several occasions there is too much trash for it to handle so the residents pile all the trash right next to the dumpster and it accumulates for days. The entire premise is full of dog feces so you have to be careful where you step. There is a worker there that supposedly picks up the feces however he doesn’t do a great job. When I go run around the grass area I am bound to find a surprise at the bottom of my shoe. When I had requested a trouble-call for repairs they gave me a date and a time and they failed to show up. SC is hot and humid during the summer and last summer they simply left the air conditioning filter at my front door so I could do their job. My neighbor next door did not even receive an air-condition filter and he had to request one. Why would he have to contact them when they expect the hot, humid season, and know that most residents utilize their AC at that timeframe? \r

It seems they set up their customers for failure so they can have them pay for upkeep of the apartments. To be honest and blunt, this place and management felt like a scheme to lure you in and have you pay out of pocket to keep the life of these apartments. Look somewhere else that is cheaper, friendlier, and doesn’t expect you to do their work for them. I shelled out about $550.00 when I moved out for carpet stains and damages. The carpet damages were centralized in the living room only, yet they forced me to pay for the removal and the replacement of the carpet in all bedrooms…\r

Do yourself a favor and skip this place altogether. \r
