Best custom sewing operation I have ever seen! 10/10/2010

Randall is the man, and Sow N Sews is the place for any serious heavy-duty sewing to be done for a variety of reasons but the best reason I can think of is that Randall know what to do, to get the best deal for the time, money and effort invested. Always reasonable, always timely, always a pleasure to go to. Randall does S.W.A.T., Fire, Police, Sheriff, Security, Body Guard and so much more sewing fabrication that I am aware of. On one weekend alone, I witnessed Randall make rigs for S.W. A.T. team members visiting the area, fist he made a drop leg rig for one, a tactical sling of another, and had a fireman come in to have his coat repaired with PBI Kevlar and nomex thread. The same weekend I saw Randall make a guy two fixed blade knife sheaths and a duty belt. Another person came in to have a dog lead done, a lady brought in her purse to have the straps shortened; and heck I have my jeans and bibs shortened and hemmed there each year. I highly recommend Randall and Sow N Sews. But and you know there is going to be a but, this guy is now retired and only works by appointment, so it means it is not OK to just stop by and expect him to be there. Also his wife is a bit grouchy if someone comes to their home door. She is looking for some kind of normal or less hectic, in their retirement years. So I recommend anyone and everyone, call ahead to 765-747-1934 (home) or 765-760-7697 (ATT Cell) to ensure he is available, and also bring cash (small bills) as he does not accept checks, cards, billing; but I am told he does some barter and trade from time to time. And, Randall does not do sunday sewing, and he prefers afternoons as opposed to mornings most days. That is the best I can recommend about Randall and Sow N Sews custom sewing N repairs. Oh, and there is no bathroom either. But there are several good restaurants nearby, and on weekends there is a flea market to visit. And the parking lot is great, and you can even reach the shop by the Cardinal Green-Way. This may seem like a lot, but really Randall does try to accommodate everyone as much as he can; and is well worth the extra effort to seek him out. And when you go there remember to take everything you want to work together with you; as he does not like to guess at what you ment to bring but didn't and likes to do things right the first time. And after all he is going to get your project done while you are right there or run an errand. more

Heavy Duty Sewing at it's Muncie Best. 9/25/2009

This is one of those shops that is Co-Located with another shop but is a separate operation. Sow N Sews is a play on words; where they sow (Like a farmer sows seed) the word of God, while they do sewing projects. In this case, the guy does all sorts of sewing projects that your average dry cleaner or typical alteration shop would not like to undertake to try to do. The kind of sewing that can turn a sewing machine into a expensive paper weight if it isn't done just right. These folks have sewn everything from Handgun Holsters (ankle, hip, shoulder, in the pant, and drop leg) for me, to my fire gear. They even have the PBI Kevlar thread and can sew on the suede cuffs for the trousers and coat; as well as shorten or lengthen suspenders and reset snaps, fasteners and put on post buttons. In Muncie or around the surrounding areas, this is by far the best place I have been able to find to come get my heavy duty sewing done. And they made a really nice Field Camo bible cover for a friend of ours to take over to Iraq with him to help keep his bible in better shape while in the combat area. I have had some really heavy duty industrial quality pager and Cell Phone cases made there that are much better then anything I can find in hardware or Big Box stores. I have come to start taking my jeans when I buy them to him for hemming too. I have trouble finding my length and now I can find what I find and just take him and he usually does them while am standing there. Quick, really fair, and does a great job. Pros: Really Ingenious, Fast, Fair, Makes it look easy, Equipped, Cons: Cash & Carry at this time, Hard to see how to get into? more

This Guy seems to be getting better the more I go here? 2/16/2009

I don't know if it is just me or if I just didn't have a really great expectation at first, but as I have been finding need for sewing, I have begun taking my stuff to Chappy J at the Sow N Sews place inside the Army Navy Surplus and it seems to me I have not found anything he couldn’t do for me so far.\r \r He has saved me a bundle not having to replace things for busted buckles, straps that came loose, or just making something for me from scratch.\r \r I can watch it being made or go down the street and have some breakfast, lunch or supper. So yes, I like it well enough and am still going back for more. If you have zippers in your life going bad? This is the place to take them for repair or replacement.\r Pros: Two Thumbs Up! more

Head and Shoulders above the rest in the State 2/10/2009

This is an old time surplus place that has this ""sewing shop"" inside it. This is not just the kind of alterations shop you might find at the cleaners mind you; it is a custom made to order and repair shop for the heavy duty things in our lives.\r \r They made me a shoulder holster, that converted to an ankle holster and back, with a double mag pouch so I could carry; one in, and two backup. They also repaired my zipper on a tent, and replaced one in my leather coat.\r \r I have some old but still usable insulated bibs and the zipper went bad and needed replacing....no problem. The same bibs had need of replacing a metal studded button...no problem. The same bibs had some holes and torn away pocket....no problem the guy fixed them all as I was asking questions about what else they may sew.\r \r Did a Great job, Fast, and more then Competitive, this is the place other shops need to compare to; my brother and I both love this place as one of our new best places to come just to get our sewing or for some of our serious surplus needs to be filed.\r \r Highly recommend this place to anyone needing sewing and Army Surplus. Pros: Over forty years of expertise is a really big help, and they have the tools to do it quick Cons: No bathroom, hard to pull in and out due to overhead RR Trestle. more

Heavy Duty Sewing and More as a service and value added approach to doing service. 11/9/2008

This is one of those shops one feels good about recommending. Not only is it inside one of my other favorite shops (Army Navy Surplus) but it is so capable that It is a bit hard to rate all the things they could do VS. what I have had done to date.\r \r Simply when I have any Heavy Duty sewing needs; this is the shop I take it to. They have done snap straps for my four wheeler, safety harness for my tree stand, pull tube repair on the outer shell, sail cover repair, several Rifle and Shotgun Slings, two shoulder holsters and a leg drop one too. Heck one is a three way holster that goes from a hip holster, to a shoulder holster, to an inside the pants holster; and all I have to do is change out the rigging in two easy moves.\r \r I have had my coveralls and bib overalls snaps replaced, Metal Prong Buttons replaced, and Leg Zippers overhauled. Then I had a pup who chewed trough a zipper and edge on my rifle case, and had them replace it. They have made me a complete duty belt for security work, and and an EMT Pouch for my volunteer service. They even made me a badge wallet, and neck / belt clip to weal a badge on. The deer stand seat cover went bad after several years and I had them recover it for me.\r \r I tore some serious holes in the seat and knee of my hunting overalls and they recovered them in Cordura Nylon that is both water-proof coated and water-repellent treated on the outside and that gave me extra durable areas that would stand up to the demands of my use.\r \r I took my children's book bag in to have the should straps and zippers repaired and that saved me a bundle on replacing them. My wife takes my patches in to have them sewn on our Leather vests, and she had her Chaps hemmed and waist taken in, while I had to had mine taken out.\r \r Thee is just so much more; and I have seen them working on horse blankets, harness, and belting for a lot of folks from a lot of trades...especially carpenters.\r \r The most telling is that I and mine keep going back.\r Pros: Friendly, Fast, Fair, Consistent, and Competitive Cons: No Bathroom, Small Space more
