Excellent food and service 3/22/2008

On my first visit to monterey a friend and I chose to eat here based on some of the reviews and we were very pleased. The owner stands outside with samples of clam chowder and is very polite and welcoming and so are the staff. The food is delicious (probably the best clam chowder i've had). I highly recommend this place! Pros: Excellent service, great food, great scenery. more

Home of the DEEP FRIED CHEESECAKE 3/26/2007

NEED I SAY MORE?! This is the best place for seafood. I've lived on the Monterey Peninsula all my life (28 years) and this is the ONLY place I would go out to eat. The staff is great, the food is great, and OOOOHHH! the deep fried cheesecake... I have diabetes, and sugar is a big NO NO, but when i go to Fisherman's Grotto, I CAN'T RESIST!!!!!!!!!! more

Lunch or Dinner on Fisherman's Wharf in Monterey 8/21/2006

Old Fisherman?s Grotto is a nice little place to have lunch or dinner on Fisherman?s Wharf when you?re in Monterey. They have yummy clam chowder (they offer free samples if you take a walk down the pier) and fresh seafood of course, but they also have steak and pasta. The inside is decorated to look like you are under the sea ? be sure to take a peek at the stairwell in the center of the lower level. If you get a table next to the window, look for harbor seals on the rocks and sea otters in the water in addition to sea birds. If you visit the convention & visitors bureau for the area you can score coupons for a free appetizer there and get a VIP card at the restaurant. more

A local's restaurant in a tourist area! 6/18/2004

I was recommended to Old Fisherman's Grotto by my hotel. I didn't want formal dining, just really good seafood. This was just the place! The owner Chris was standing out front, passing out samples of clam chowder (which I give a perfect 10!) He was very gracious. The staff was very pro, and the food fantastic! My hotel sent me a Calamari appetizer (I had a VIP card), and I've never had better. Nice "local" feel for a restaurant in the middle of Monterey's Fisherman's Wharf! Best in Monterey 8/8/2002

Even if you just want a burger, they go ALL out. Gormet food, personalized service, owner is always there, reasonable prices, best chowder on the warf, family owned for ever. They even have a kids menu. Pros: Inexpensive, good location, great customer servce Cons: never found any cons more
