Truth remains, I tend to be hard headed and a slow learner, so unfortunately-two trips to Olalla were what was required for me to ""get it"". In 05 I first did the in-patient program after a ugly divorce and this being the best way to hopefully re-gain custody of my child. I was not ready! this is they key to any recovery program. It absolutely will not be effective unless the participant is totally ready to absorb the offerings. In no way can we regard this as a poor reflection on Olalla, their program or staff. I found the staff to be incredibly gentle, firm, open, kind and the thing that was THE MOST IMPORTANT to me-they seemingly ALL seemed to have their own first hand (or close family related) experience with some form of addiction. A huge difference between listening to one's personal journey and listening to what someone ""learned about addiction"" while attending a University or other formal training program. The mixed balance of the two make this program work!\r
The picturesque views, fresh sea air and country setting were all a part of the healing that takes place here. Their attention to the Native cultures and the ceremonies and programming they do in this area were very spiritual and healing. ""Daniel"" was in charge of these items when I was first there and he was incredible-great spirit, genuine and experienced. The offerings of a sugar/caffeine free diet, yoga, acupuncture, open running track overlooking the peninsula-all make healing here peaceful and practical. Fortunately, in 2007 I, (on my own) was really ready to break my cycle of addiction and change my focus to one of recovery once and for all. I again chose to do this at Olalla. When I CHANGED, the program worked much better for me. I was leading meetings enthusiastically and willingly, forming lasting one on one friendships that continue to be supportive in my recovery.\r
I would recommend this place to anyone (women especially) interested in working to improve their life and manage their addictions. The small women's group sizes (max 12 or so), the setting, the support and the great staff- namely Paris, Lois, Teri, Daniel and Betsy were invaluable to me being alive to write this today. I can not thank all of you enough for the chance you gave me at life and happiness again..\r
thank you thank you thank you\r
